Here's the problem. We all (I hope) know that the movie is not a remake of the G1 series. It never has been, it never will be. People will complain that "I didn't like Arcee in G1, so she shouldn't be in the movie", but if fans would just think about that statement, they would know it doesn't hold up. So you didn't like Arcee in G1. Good for you. Nor did I. Thankfully, the movie series is different. I hated Bumblebee in G1, but loved him in the movie, what does that tell you? It tells me that this is a different continuity, and that fans can't use G1 as a precedence for absolutely everything the movie does.
Secondly, fans will complain about her size. "She's too small in bot mode" everyone cries. This is perhaps the argument that drives me the most nuts. I just can't understand the reasoning behind it. Yes, she would only be 9-feet-tall.... uh... so? TFs come in all shapes and sizes. Yes, some of them (especially in the movie) are very huge, but why do they all have to be? I remember many fans complaining that the TFs in the films "grew" too much and that it wouldn't make sense for them to be so big. I heard people complain that Bumblebee was too big to pass of as the classic Bumblebee character, and now we're complaining that some TFs are too small? If anything, having a small TF would add great variety to the Autobot crew. Arcee would be fast and stealthy, almost ninja-like. Can't you imagine all these great scenes where she would zoom between cars only to transform and jump on top of the bigger Decepticons and blow their heads off without them even noticing her? Size shouldn't matter. Size doesn't matter. I would think a fandom comprised mostly of men would understand that.
Thirdly, the motorbike alt mode is brilliant. If there is ever any motorbike TF in the movie series, only Arcee would pull it off. Anyone who has ever driven a motorbike will know that they are great machines and really deserve a place on the big screen along with all the "big cars". You need variety in a movie franchise. It is it's own universe, probably only going to last 3 films. You need to cram as many different characters and vehicles as you can in there. To make three films and not include one motorbike TF would be a damn shame.
Fourthly, there is the question of the fembot thing. I've heard just about every argument against it, and have never been convinced. Not by a single one. As long as the audience does not question the existence of robots that are obviously, inherently male, with all the traditionally "male" characteristics, they won't question the female bots, no more than they'll question the fact that the TFs refer to each other as "he" and that Bumblebee obviously urinates like a man.
Fifthly. She just looks cool. It's a wicked design. It doesn't make you any less a man to like a female character. There is alot of potential with this character if fans just give her a chance, instead of dismissing her for basically being "a little woman".

That's awful lot of narrative for a movie script.
I say bogus.
