Well, the very 1st thing I'd like to point out is that while I really like the idea of this thread, it may become a 1-sided conversation, as we have very few female fans active on these boards. They may lurk, and we used to have a regular contingent who posted, but it seems they have faded into the background. That's not to say that us guys aren't enlightened enough to consider a woman's point of view, as much as possible anyway, but it wouldn't be the same. That's 1 reason I think it would be hard to answer the questions you posed below. These are all just my personal opinions, in no way am I claiming to speak for all men or representing men's point of view in general.RAR wrote:It is often said that Men care about things and Woman care about people.
I thought I'd start a thread to ask this question and inquire if you good people think this is a valid generalization or a gross over simplification?
Are personal Relationships or metaphorical people of greater importance to woman & Girls than objects or concepts or non-human characters (like Transformers say) are and vice versa?
I personally never looked at the Transformers in the live action movies as "things" or "effects." Say what yo will about the overall stories of the films, the Transformers characters are visually and audibly stunning. They were brought alive on the screen by the special effects and the voice performances. It's unfortunate they were mostly wasted on mediocre storytelling. If I man was watching a Movie would they be looking at something quite different to what a woman was (in general)? Is it a gender or age thing (or neither) [in general] in your opinion to dismiss the Transformers in the live action Movies as "Things" or 'effects' or to see non-humans in sci-fi as disposable?
I do think men and women look at parts of life differently and place different values on certain aspects, whether they be feelings, possessions or anything else. For example, in a relationship I place the highest value on feelings and intangibles such as personality traits. Material things have less meaning. But when I'm by myself (as is the case now) I value things. Things that entertain me, things that make me feel good or help me in everyday life. I think the key is being able to distinguish and switch between these states of mind.Would the other element be important to both - just less important or just not even considered.
I never got the vibe that women liked Bumblebee more. I always thought he was the kid-attraction factor. Women usually go for Starscream. For example on average what is it about Optimus Prime that has more male appeal and what is it about Bumblebee that has more female appeal.

Totally. My mum doesn't like the 3rd series of Transformers because it has no Starscream.
(three children, each five years apart all liking Transformers gave her over 10 years to form this opinion. lol)
