Starstruck's Bio

Like her mentor Jazz, Starstruck has a built-in fondness for loud music and bright lights. Unlike him, however, she initially seemed to possess neither the taste nor the talent for combat--and this despite loathing the Decepticons as much as any Autobot. Although she was fully programmed for battle functionality, Starstruck simply lacked the confidence to perform as a warrior. After discussing the situation, Optimus Prime and Jazz resolved to send her on a PR mission. Jazz's protege thus found herself serving as the pace car at the Daytona 500 in front of a crowd of literally tens of millions. Instead of freezing up, Starstruck drove with perfect precision and poise. And when the Decepticons attacked later in the race, she managed to hold them off until Autobot reinforcements could arrive. Starstruck's stylish bravery in the face of overwhelming odds won her a devoted following that day.

As Jazz suspected, an audience was all Starstruck needed to develop her inherent talents. She came to the same conclusion and became determined to keep that audience. Under the guise of continuing PR work, Starstruck launched her own celebrity career in imitation of human stars. She eventually made friends in Hollywood, who turned out to be eager to work with a giant robot, and starred in several hit movies and even released a dance single called "(You) Transform Me" that rocketed all the way to number one on the US charts. But Starstruck had not counted on the fickle nature of the human attention span. The novelty of a charismatic Autobot soon began to loose its luster and the offers gradually dried up. After turning down parts in commercials (which were not even for her own toyline!), Starstruck was "out of work" for several years. As "just another Autobot," her insecurities and limitations resurfaced. It soon became apparent that Starstruck was sinking into depression.

Jazz therefore nominated her as a natural candidate for Project PrimeTime. Ratchet objected, however, arguing that Starstruck could not rely on fleeting fame for her confidence. Jazz countered that anything was better than letting her continue to slip into emotional obsolescence. Optimus Prime ultimately agreed that Starstruck would be assigned to PrimeTime for its first season at least. He himself told her that whether or not she could continue would depend entirely on how she handled the fame. Scenes of this debate were later included by PrimeTime's producers in the show's pilot episode. In interview segements, Starstruck affirmed that she loves the spotlight and was eager to return to media prominence. Her sparkling, out-going demeanor on-camera belies nothing of the depression she had supposedly suffered.

Many fans can hardly imagine this glamorous Autobot as anything but a self-assured star. Indeed, there are some who think Starstruck is a little too one-dimensional. They criticize her as being shallow and self-centered. But many others are devoted fans. They argue that Starstruck is undergoing an internal struggle to develop a sense of faith in herself. They cite her surprising friendship with the introspective Sunbow as evidence of this. But this friendship itself is the source of division among Starstruck's fans. Some hope that she and Sunbow will develop a romantic relationship while others believe this would be another false source of confidence when what she really needs is to rely on herself. In any case, whether you love her or hate her, Starstruck has certainly managed to return to the spotlight.
