The Son of Optimus Prime was created by a process of a freak accident in the centre of Cybertron. The old friends of Optimus tried to restore him, but hius body was so decrepid and broken it could not be reactivated. So the only way they could restore him was transfer his life existence into an identical copy of his body. But this required the power of the key to Vector Sigma.
So the body was taken down to where Vector Sigma resides. But sadly, on the way, they were intercepted by a gang of Decepticon mersionaries. During this struggle, Vector Sigma was activated. Vector Sigma reacted with the life force of Optimus Prime, giving Optimus the power to give life to this new body, but on the result of giving some of his own life force.
The new creation was a by-product of Optimus Prime, but still not the original. For-seeing the destruction of the container holdng the life force of Optimus Prime, Alpha Trion, who had merged with Vector Sigma mnany years ago, welcomed Optimus' existence into Vector Sigma. The bi-product of Optimus Prime awoke, but only to see the destruction of the empty container, which he though was the destruction of his father.
From this point onwards, he vowed to avenge the death of his father, yet to know that his father, the original Optimus Prime, will someday return to fight alongside his own son and, of course, the rest of his noble Autobot friends. However, he was de-activated shortly after his arrival to earth, due to his rash actions nearly endangering the planet. Galvatron foudn the de-activated body, and tried to reactivate it as a decpticon. Failing this recruitment attempt, he was launched into space for eternity.
He was picked up by the Quintessons, who managed to salvage him. Seeing the body of Optimus Prime, they tried to imprison him, but setting off a signal to the Autobots. Skylinx and Blaster took off to try and retrieve the salvaged body, which led them to the Quintesson ship. They managed to break onto the ship, and locate the body. Seeing the body they recognised well, they tried to reactivate him, and succeeded in doing so. The three of them faught their way off the ship, and returned to earth. Rodimus Prime, recgonising the fighter instantly, welcomed the three of them home. After being told the story of the rescue, and how the salvaged Optimus had been so brave as an Autobot back on the Quintesson ship, Rodimus renamed him OptimusPrime II.
Being named OptimusPrime II, the son of Optimus Prime now fights under the leadership of Ractimus Prime, the new leader of the Autobots, in the struggle against the Decepticons, but still with his heart of avengeance for his father. This un-pure heart may bring Optimus' destruction, or it may be what brings the return of his father. Or both. No-one knows the truth behind OptimusPrime II, except from the power of his creator, Vector Sigma himself.
