Box Office Predictions for Transformers: The Last Knight are Out

Box office prediction site pro.boxoffice.com has revealed their prediction for the domestic (USA and Canada) gross of the film in it's theatrical run. They estimate $79,000,000 for the 3-day opening and $195,000,000 for the entire run. Of course, that doesn't count the Chinese market which helped make Age of Extinction the biggest movie of that year. This figure will change from week to week so you can keep an eye on it on the site. Plus, they indicate all the factors that went into their prediction which are quite fun to read. Here they are below, enjoy!

PROS:

The Transformers brand remains hugely popular both in North America and around the world. Regardless of how it performs in the States, this should once again mark a bright financial spot on Paramount’s bottom line when global box office is taken into account.
Excluding The Mummy, this stands as one of June’s few summer tentpole options aimed squarely at the male audience. Adult fans and teenage boys alike should once again drive the bulk of business.
Twitter activity has been quite respectable, especially in terms of sentiment which registers more positive than it did for Age of Extinction at the same point before release (driven by encouraging trailers thus far).
The return of Mark Wahlberg ensures the franchise still has some star power to help it out. Fans may also be intrigued by the addition of Anthony Hopkins, who features prominently in the trailers.
For another fan-specific interest: this marks the beginning of the next “era” of the franchise as it’s the first installment to come out of the writers’ room established by the studio to map out where future editions will go.

CONS:

As with most series five films deep into their run, some continued diminished returns are expected here. The previous two films each declined from the series’ domestic box office peak (2009’s Revenge of the Fallen with $402 million). With the previous entry specifically generating strong criticism even from the target audience, it’s highly likely this film continues that trend on opening weekend.
Being sandwiched in between Cars 3 and Despicable Me 3 could potentially (if not likely) cut into young male viewership.
With Spider-Man: Homecoming, War for the Planet of the Apes, and Dunkirk all looming in July, the older male crowd is going to be a tough sell on this sequel.
While the franchise remains a pillar among franchises with over 32 million Facebook fans as of this writing, its day-to-day growth is not currently as healthy as it was at the same point before Extinction‘s release. Flixster is also a source of concern relative to past franchise standards.

More Bots. More News. More Awesome.

There seems to be some disconnect between the message Valvoline is saying in their latest commercial featuring clips of Transformers: The Last Knight. While the video has many representatives giving their thanks to the Transformers for saving us, the clips used mostly feature an evil Optimus Prime, including one where he is smashing Bumblebee. These are of course the most eye catching clips with Optimus being the best known character so the corporate mandate was clear but it still makes for an awkward commercial. Enjoy!

'aimed squarely at the male audience' Girls don't like Transformers? Weird cos most of the ones I know actually like or love the films. What demographic is the trailer focused on a little girl aimed at?

Last Knight really is one of only two films I actually want to see in the cinema this year. The other one was Logan which I already did see (and loved). Nothing else this year appeals to me, certainly not more MCU and Star Wars stuff (I'd like to pretend The Force Awakens was just a bad fan-film)

Thank you, Autobots, for saving the world by beating the ever-loving sh*t out of Bumblebee.

Could swear I've seen it happen with other movie franchise adverts where they take things without realising the context. Can't say I mind, it's always funny :P

There's nothing awkward about that commercial.

We have no idea that Optimus is "evil".

It's a corporate ad featuring clips from an up-coming movie.

That was good for a real laugh. It's like the folks at Valvoline know the collecting fanbase and how we feel about a certain yellow plague. :KREMZEEK:

Sabrblade wrote:You know, as I was typing that post, I Googled 騎士王 (Kishi-ō, "Knight King") to see what would come up and the first result that came up was the Chinese Wikipedia article for King Arthur, 亚瑟王 (Yàsèwáng). Could be a coincidence (as those are not the same three Kanji as those I Googled, save for the third one), but I did find it funny what with all the Arthurian stuff going on in this movie.

I actually talked with my wife about the Japanese title for the movie. She said the title of 最後の騎士王 should translate out to "The Last King (or Ruler/Champion/Master) of the Knights"

So who the last King of the Knights could be referring to, is anyone's guess at this point. I'm guessing though it's in reference to Prime and Cade.

Seibertronian EvasionModeBumblebee has let us know that a new still from the Japanese exclusive trailer has made its way to the internet. The image shows Prime, faceplate retracted, with his arm sword deployed with Bumblebee's head in the lower right. It appears as though Prime is trying to resist killing Bumblebee, playing off the scene from the original trailer where Prime went to stab Bee in the head. Check out the image below, and you can find the original video where it came from here

HAHAHAHAHA, Valvoline took down the video after realizing their giant mistep. Oh boy, that must suck in terms of loss for their marketting department.

The hype train for The Last Knight continues to chug along, this time making a stop in Australia with Australian telecommunications provider Optus launching a competition to win an overseas trip for two and a VIP experience at a special screening. The competition doesn't say WHERE overseas.

Entry is open to Optus Australia customers.
