First Look At Upcoming Netflix Deluxe Cheetor and Ironhide Redecos

Posted by william-james88 Jan 6, 2021 at 7:45pm CST 34,851 views
We had our first look at wave 3 of the Netflix toys really early today with Sparkless Barricade and a clear purple Paleotrex (both of which you can see here) and now we have more deluxes. We have the Ironhide redeco which is supposed to be a troop builder in the Quintesson army and Cheetor who is a slight redeco of the Kingdom deluxe figure. The main difference is the blue which is far more show accurate than the powder blue colour he was given in the main line. We will be getting more sparkless characters in wave 3 including a sparkless Seeker and a sparkless red alert mold. The images below were sent to us by a source asking to remain anonymous.

Let us know what you think of these.

He wasn't shelf warming everywhere which is probably why Hasbro doesn't mind him going back to retail again. Siege Megatron never stayed in stock more than a month around me (at Walmart or Target), even the second and third restock they would eventually sell out. The Walmarts around me never got the 35th line so no shelf warming there. Earthrise Megatron never showed up here either so that was never an issue. Netflix Megatron was restocked at least three times, the most recent being a few weeks before wave 2 came out, and both my local Walmarts are completely sold out of Netflix figures of all sizes and waves. The demand is definitely not past the saturation point everywhere for Megatron.

You know that mindset people have about repaints forcing you to buy the second release because it'd be better? It rings true wuth Cheetor because that's what the figure shouldh've looked like.

If the all but confirmed spoiler box megatron is just the earthrise version of the mold, but with the netflix deco scheme, I would be incredibly happy, because both of those versions fall just short of being different enough from siege mainline to be worth the price of double dipping, but I know I'm getting box 3 for the paleotrex alone anyways.

Darn, I was hoping the Ironhide Quint would be the all white version. Maybe later.

Really wish that Paleotrex was sold separately. I'd rather not get another Megatron.

It may be because the picture is small but I don't see any difference between this Cheetor and the standard one.

Looks like a darker blue (more accurate) for the plastic on the shoulders and matching darker paint on the face and legs, but fewer paint apps overall.

I like the darker blue better than the lighter blue, but the more paint apps overall more than I like the better blue, so I'm probably sticking with the regular release.

Pretty sure the sparkless are different to Quint troops but hey.

Ironhide quint just looks bad, doesnt help that the alt is pretty bad but now the robot mode looks dull in the way it is painted.

Cheetor, making the blue better still can't improve the figures flaws for me and it looks like the blue crotch desnt match the plastic but this may not be final production figure. Hope it looks a bit better for those that are after him and that the deco doesnt frustrate those that have already picked up Kingdoms.

No doubt this line will have one figure I want but the chances are getting slimmer

I might be in the same boat as you, im still on the fence
The regular release has the blue on the shins and this one doesn't, and I prefer the red cheetah eyes over the green ones even if green is more accurate

THAT is the Quintesson troop builder? Not the Alicon!?

Well. That's one Quintesson figure I don't need.

Well I mean, the Alicons weren't even IN the show, so..yeah, not in the show-based repaint line.

It also has a more realistic coat color for the cheetah, with tan plastic instead of yellow, and more pronounced cream underbelly paint apps, instead of retail's lighter shade of yellow. It also omits the blue on the shins so that the cheetah legs have realistic coloration instead of the prominent blue heels. Looks like a different spot pattern too, with smaller and more details. Seems like the philosophy was using the netflix line's slightly increased paint budget to get a more realistic cheetah first, then more accurate robot colors where it wouldn't contradict the cheetah accuracy, with a small backstep in realism to give the cheeta green eyes in a nod to the show.

I am dissapointed. I have been wanting an excuse for a black Ironhide as Diaclone and thry came thiiis close but the grey shins and forearms (accurate to the show but not what I want) just miss the bar. Do I care enough to paint them?

Never watched the show, but the toys had to have come first here, right?

I mean, why would they have Ironhide drones instead of Alicons when they knew Alicons were available? Weird!

Seems Netflix Cheetor is prioritizing Cheetah mode over robot mode when it comes to the legs and whip

To save money on CGI models. They already had one for Ironhide, so they recolored it.

The Netflix line was likely a last minute thing conceived after Hasbro realized that the cartoon's first season wouldn't be coming out until after the Siege toyline would be done and succeeded by Earthrise. Recall how the Prime Wars Trilogy cartoon began when the Combiners Wars toyline was already on its way out to be succeeded by the Titans Return toyline. Evidently, Hasbro did not want a repeat of that and just put out a line of quick and dirty redecos to have something on the shelves to tie in with the show upon its release.

Of the first wave Netflix toys, Decepticon Mirage and Hotlink were the only one whose specific decos actually showed up in the cartoon's first season. But, Mirage felt like an afterthought thrown into the show rather than something planned to really advertise the toy, while Hotlink was just one of many background generic Seekers instead of something truly meant to sell a toy, as though Hasbro looked at the Seekers and just picked one to base the toy's deco on and named it "Hotlink" because the onscreen generic's deco was "close enough". And while Scrapface did appear in the show, it wasn't until the second season, by which point the writers would have had more time to put him into the show.

Of the Wave 2 Netflix toys, Elita-1, Bumblebee, and Nemesis Prime all showed up in the show, but the first two were actually meant to be normal Earthrise toys instead of Netflix toys, but got shifted around thanks to COVID-19 messing up Earthrise's distribution. Nemesis, on the other hand, only got a blink-and-you'll-miss-him cameo appearance inside Optimus Prime's imagination for only a split second, and so was hardly anything of actual import.

Any other characters who appeared in the show that also had Netflix toys bore a greater resemblance to their regular Siege and Earthrise toys, lacking the specific degree of battle damage that their Netflix toy decos had. In Ultra Magnus's case, he resembled his Siege toy when he was alive, while his Netflix toy was colored with the intent of resembling his dead body from the show. However, said corpse had to have originated from the show itself rather than the show taking inspiration from his toy since, despite the intention, the toy's deco does not match the onscreen appearance of his corpse in the same way that his living self matches the look of his retail toy, or in the same way that everyone else in the show resembles their normal toys.

I was hoping for more gold paint, but at least this Cheetor has the darker metallic blue, which is all I really wanted anyway. Plus, the cheetah head paint is so much better than the standard release. I didn't notice it at first, but now I can't unsee it. It also looks like some of his parts (biceps, hands, paws, abs, etc.) are molded in a tanish/goldish color. I like it, especially if it's more on the gold side, it helps cover for the lack of gold paint. This Cheetor looks 10× better than the retail one, even without the leg paint.

That Ironhide is basically a fusion of G1 and bayverse, and it's incredible. :x
