Which one is the "toon" head and the "toy" head?
Also, it look great overall.
I preordered my MPG-09 Super Ginrai at Age 3 & Up. This way, I saved around 80$CAN despite the base price being around 50$CAN more expensive at A3U compared to Amazon.jp. The free shipping and a single tax make a HUGE difference for this here Québécois.

Thousands of years ago I had the original Powermaster Prime version, and I always hated the look of the thing. The ridiculously undersized arms, the immobile oversized legs, the macrocephalic head, the false truck front . . .
It's good to see they fixed the irritating proportion and articulation issues, but they unfortunately kept the false front. While this is a vast improvement, It just doesn't seem like enough of an improvement to blow half the grocery bill on. I'm still recovering from Raiden.

The fake chest is cartoon accurate.

I really dislike that phrase. It's so often used to excuse poor design or various perceived flubs when the cartoon itself is notorious for being riddled with animation errors.
As for the figure itself (the full super robot that is), I'm slowly coming around to it. I have a serious soft spot for Powermaster Prime. I still prefer the look of FansHobby Power Baser but this is slowly winning me over.

This.
Maybe this is why the Masterpiece line has really lost its luster for me. The designs are "cartoon accurate" but very, very boring. I feel like the Bee movie designs struck the best balance of detailing and G1 nostalgia (though I am one who rails constantly against the never-ending stream of G1 Redux we seem to continuously get any more).

Blue eyes = toon
The cab torso as is was how the animation model was designed because of how the toy was designed.

Not the same cartoon. This is Masterforce, which wasn't error-ridden like the G1 cartoon was.Big Grim wrote:-Kanrabat- wrote:The fake chest is cartoon accurate.

Same, here. Most recent MP toys are just bland. I got 8 MP-11 variants and I like the extra detail they put into robot mode, while I won't ever consider buying a MP-52 one, even if it were a different Seeker. When Skids came out, I was hoping they ditched the bland cartoon looks, yet unfortunately it was one of a kind (well, not counting its variants).

I'm not really sure what either of you would want from Ginrai then. We have both a cartoon accurate option and a toy accurate option, there are no other options left. There's no real world equivalent here and making a new design that give's Ginrai Godmaster engine abs and no "false chest" would be a no-go in the Masterpiece line, you'd only see that in Generations (not after they got lambasted for MP-03 nearly 20 years ago).

And, it's rather hypocritical of fans to demand Ginrai not have a fake cab chest when Hasbro gave a real cab chest to the Siege Galaxy Upgrade Optimus Prime inner cab robot toy and fans demanded he have a fake cab chest too like his original toy did.

And both Hasbro and Takara already got lambasted for their respective updates to Powermaster Optimus Prime and Super Ginrai in the Titans Return and Legends toylines, both of which did keep the cab front as the robot mode's chest.Emerje wrote:angtre wrote:First-Aid wrote:Big Grim wrote:-Kanrabat- wrote:The fake chest is cartoon accurate.

There are enough little details to make SG more distinctive than most of the MP figures we've seen recently. I'm debating him currently...it's a case of either buy him or replace my Korg Triton LE on my keyboard rig.

Wait, what are you talking about?
TR/Legends did not have the inner robot, and the bigger robot had the real chest, and the real cab as the real chest was lambasted?
And PM Prime has always had the fake smaller robot chest, with the real one being the super chest, as seen here, and that is a problem now?
And And, Siege Galaxy Prime transformed wrong to begin with, the Cybertron Primes robot mode having main window shoulders and side window chests, so I would hardly call those fake, and it was done that way because of the inner prime transformation to match G1 and not Cybertron because of the base mold used. Different transformation schemes for similar but different results. Galaxy just shot the middle.

It looks good. Still wish they had done something about the ridiculously exaggerated arm pylons on the trailer (since it's neither toy nor cartoon accurate), but this thing will likely stay in Super Ginrai form on my shelf anyway. Come to think of it, it might be a good place to finish my MP collecting, since Powermaster Prime is where it all started when I was a kid.

It's been a while since I pulled this one out:
Sabrina-Online #397: "You must be this geeky to ride the ride"
And just 'cause:
Sabrina-Online #696: "We'll call him 'Babies McStrawman'"
Back to Ginrai with the fake chest; it's accurate to the original toy, the cartoon went with it, that's you need to know.
