Recycled Footage From "The Island" in Dark Of The Moon

This is probably more common in movies than people think. A Youtube video shows that Michael Bay recycled footage from his 2005 movie "The Island" for Dark Of The Moon. You can see side by side shots of a couple of scenes. The video can be seen here, however it has been embedded below.

Here are a couple of stills captured from the video

Ehhh, it worked for what it needed to do.

Now, if someone could explain how the Dreads could run faster (or it appeared to me they were) then the 3 autobot (high performance cars) could drive?

Which footage from "Pearl Harbor" was used in the first movie?

Because they have dreads. That means they're able to run fast. :P

That clip of the aircraft carrier. It was a short clip. It was used in ROTF too when Galloway was recaping the end of the first movie.

Even though the results were seemingly good in TF3, seeing this makes it feel slightly cheapened to me. Never saw The Island, so I'd have never known likely.

This is nothing new, footage sounds & music have all be reused in movies and tv shows before so why should it be a shock that bay does it too? never knew the island was a bay film, guess thats why it was so mediocre.

hey, if he can use explosion scenes from other movies and can help use the movies budget elsewhere.. i'm all for it.

especially since i've never seen the island and don't care to.

I was wondering why one of the dreads was looking like it was throwing a car and not succeeding at it. I'm not mad about reusing footage from another movie, it was still awesome. Bay re-used the UAV drone camera spy plane scene in the first and second transformers movies. And he didn't change anything in either shot.

Disney did this pretty notoriously through out the 50's-90's.

So what? If it meant that he saved totalling a few cars and saved money he could use elsewhere in the movie, I don't care. I never saw The Island so all the footage was brand new to me. To be honest, it is more believable in DOTM than a flying metal plate.

Yup, the most obvious one I can think of is the ending dance in Beauty and The Beast. They ran out of money doing the CG stuff and couldn't animate the ending so they painted over the ending dance from Sleeping Beauty.

Pretty lame. It might be done a lot, but that doesn't mean its a good thing. And I'm speaking about live action movies.. anything else doesn't really matter since its animation, and not real anyway. I finally saw the movie, and save like 2-3 scenes, it was pretty dull, such that I stopped caring about what happens next and was just waiting to see more bot on bot combat.
Can someone name a good sci fi movie on this sorta budget that re-uses footage?

well they used the sound of darthvaders tie fighter from 'A new Hope' in the GI Joe animated movie when serpentor is using his glider in the arctic battle

it happens no big deal

Also they sometimes use the lightsaber sounds in the G1 cartoon, for example when Soundwave makes the Energon cubes come out of his chest.

Yup, couldn't agree more. It's called stock footage and film makers use it all the time to save cash. What would you rather have, brand new footage of cars getting crushed or more CGI Transformers on screen?

Why is this such a big deal but using footage of President Kennedy, President Nixon and the moon landing is not getting discussed?

Uhm... i'm pretty sure that kennedy footage was to enforce the reality of the Transformers story by splicing it with real and fake footage. Not really the same thing being discussed here.

Your right though, it isn't a big deal; I sure as hell don't care. But I can say I haven't really noticed any footage being re-used in the sci fi movies (even movies in general) I'm into. If people are so aware of it being done so much, please name some good movies that also re-use footage from the previous chapter, or even from the same movie.
Am I the only one who sees the principle in having nothing but first-time, unique footage in a new piece of work? especially a movie? I get its a short bit here and there, but it just seems to push the movie further away from a piece of art, and closer to a marketed product.

I don't see the problem, not using recycled footage when it's applicable sounds wasteful to me. It's only a couple of seconds anyway, it's not like the entire sequence was reused.
