He probably meant digital cells such as in The Simpsons. Yes the Occasional Gundam series as well as Young Justice are great examples of why 2D animation still looks great. Also yes, it appears the era of the 80's and 90's of having a good action show that appeals to both kids and adults no longer exists. Prior to the Pandemic, the movie industry made billions off riding the PG-13 rating, making films appeal to as many different demo's at once as possible. In animation however it seems to be only G/PG and R (not saying that Netflix WFC is R rated, but at DC you have Harley Quinn and pretty much all their animated films of the last 5-6 years are needlessly violent). They look amazing, but I'm not interested in gore/sex/violence just because "it can be done".

Even great CG shows such as Transformers Prime and The Clone Wars seem just not to exist anymore.

Gundam still exists... in Japan, and has long since hopped on the CGI train as well.

Gundam Wing looks dated as all get out, nowadays, and I say that as one who still loves Gundam Wing. But I hold no delusions that it looks exactly like a 26-year-old thing from 1995, which is just what it is.

One interesting thing to note is that the kid mentions "you're a Transformer". With a tone that implies he already knows what that is.

Which, to me, can mean one of three things: either he finds out early what Transformers are and is reacting to something else also being a Transformer (which sounds...rather manipulative and convoluted editing, but not impossible); or Transformers as a brand is well-known on Earth and he discovers real ones exist, like in Digimon Tamers (which would be confusing at first, but bold and new for the franchise); or Transformers are relatively well-known in this continuity and he's surprised to have met one (far more likely and in line with other continuities we had).

Actually, come to think of it, for a franchise where one of the main taglines is "Robots In Disguise", there's plenty of continuities where the existence of Transformers is well-known to the public, or at least the government.

The best with regards to keeping themselves secret was Rescue Bots, who only revealed themselves to the public in Season 4
