Directly from Paramount pictures, we have a new poster for the upcoming fifth instalment in the live-action movie series for the Transformers. As we've seen in the teaser trailer, Optimus Prime seems to have taken a turn for the worse in The Last Knight, out in June 2017 - the new poster seems to tease the same, as it asks us to rethink our heroes... check it out, and join the discussion in the Energon Pub!

If the history of this fandom is anything to go by, these movies have been making us rethink our heroes since at least ROTF. :P

Rethink your heroes? This movie series has had a really weird relationship with Autobot heroics from the start. This isn't a statement on the film's quality, I don't want to go down that rabbit hole, it's just an observation.

Since the first film, the Autobots have always been really violent with the Decepticons. Optimus ripping grindor's head apart, Jetfire tearing out ravage's spine, the wreckers wrenching a soldier from his ship before drawing and quatering him, "GIVE ME YOUR FACE." Not to mention how the third movie ended with Megatron advocating a truce before Optimus performs Sub-Zero's fatality.

At the same time, at least since Revenge of the Fallen, there's been this con-current narrative where Megatron is trying to hatch and raise Decepticon children while they starve due to lack of energon. Heck, the whole plot of the 3rd film was about revitalizing cybertron.

Not saying whether this stuff is good or bad, just weird. It would actually be really interesting if the film acknowledged all the Cybertronian hatchlings that died on the Autobot's watch, instead of a couple throwaway scenes the point out their existence.

Plot guess:

Optimus goes into space and fights the Quintessons. A gravely injured Prime floats in space near Unicron. Unicron turns Optimus Prime into Nemesis Prime and sends him back to Earth to retrieve an artifact that will make Unicron more powerful. Prime defeats Bumblebee but Hot Rod "lights their darkest hour".

Second of all, the big problem with this Transformers trailer is the same problem with all of the Transformers movies. Not enough actual Transformers and way too much of humans I really don't care anything about

I haven't actually gone back to time this but I feel like the bots have been getting more screentime in each subsequent movie.

TheLastKnight wrote:I am so hyped for this film! I don't care with what other think or say about it but this looks amazing! People have been saying that the movies suck due to the lack of reference to the source material, but technically the films are creating their own source material. I like the direction that they are going in And let me just say: that Megatron looks awesome! I really dig his look in this and hopefully he can have a larger and more crucial role in this. Optimus seems to have some red on his head when he's going against Bumblebee. It could be related to Prime's behaviour and the reason for his purple eyes. Can't wait until we see some more stuff!

If the G1 cartoon is the source material, A Decepticon Raider in King Arthur's Court.

And Dark of the Moon would have been better if the Decepticons captured Optimus, attached his arm with blaster to a building, and turned the rest of his parts into an alligator.

To be honest, Optimus Prime was so many times... morally ambiguous that its suprise that he need purple eyes to bring "there is something wrong with this guy". Lack of remorse after Cybertron's destruction was really wierd.

Where would they have put Decepticons if captured? They didn't have a ship with a brig, they didn'thave a a base with holding cells or anything and in later films the autobots reveal they won't share technology only knowledge.

And it's the transformers war in the real world. A war that's spanned millions of years that's lead to their planet demolished and their race in small number. The Decepticons enacted genocide on not only autobots but other species. Even in our own history we don't clock out enemies in the back of the head during a war and drag them away.

I do love that poster.

And the bots have progressively been getting more screen time. Plus, I'm glad we're gonna have Wahlberg with Lennox and Epps. Those are 3 good humans for the films and, without Cade's daughter, will be a bit more focused then sporadic human-wise.

Yeah it will be a good trio and the young girl hopefully does a good job.

I didn't mind Cades daughter...until her boyrfriend got introduced and it got all "here's a Texas law that says I can bang her because she under age"...yikes...

I have faith that Isabella's character will be a good one. And that is a great trio, and I didn't like the boyfriend that much (reminded me a bit of a couple of my sister's ex's, and where I come from 2 of them would be scrap if I saw them again)

ANYWHERE you're from you'd beat the shit of a kid that says anything he says in the last movie. "She knows how to work a stick" yeah that's when later on you ask Bee to transform before he gets out of the car. That's probably why he and her are not in the film. Him mostly I'd say.

Optimus won't turn evil. It'll be like Hulk was in Age of Ultron and he'll be under someone's control.

Honestly it’s such a cheap marketing tactic anyway because no one (except the stupid kids on tumblr) is actually going to fall for it and believe Hasbro will let the franchise’s mascot to turn evil. If they really wanted the scene to have shock value they would keep it out of the marketing and let it be a surprise twist for those who bother to go see it.
