I also feel as much as the robot mode looks more alive... the vehicle mode is much more bland w/o the lettering. I'm so conflicted.

Maybe they could? Prowl's original release didn't include launchers that I can remember. I haven't been able to play with the Datsun mold in a couple of years, since I moved and haven't ever unpacked them from their boxes.

The original Lambo and Datsun mold I got way too many of to be realistically investing in the + line. Even if I did like the change to Red Alert.

The original MP-17 didn't come with missiles but you could acquire them separately. They look the same as the missiles that come with MP-17+ except they were black instead of silver/grey behind the chrome. The tabs on the side of the missile pods fit into slots molded into the sides of the rear bumper on the original MP-17. All this release does is include the missile pods and change the paint & window colors.

You may have a rough go of it my friend. This thing is an exclusive in every sense of the word, akin to the BAPE's. He's literally only being sold in Japanese 7-11's in limited quantities. Those selling them online are few and will likely have to buy them from there themselves.zodconvoy wrote:shajaki wrote:Holy crap! Guess what I just realized is out at the end of this month?!

I pre-ordered mine through Anime Export, and apparently Nippon had it too. But both are sold out. I found another store, but do some homework on them first. I've never heard of them before so I have no idea of their quality or legitimacy...

Nothing we haven't seen before.

I can't believe I'm saying this, but there is something about that deco I do like.
For me though the good news is maybe I can find a good deal on a 2nd hand OG 17, as I'm sure folks will be unloading theirs in exchange for this version.

Some pix of the original.

And a few comparison pix --
The original MP-17 can carry the shoulder cannons in car mode, too. This "Plus" version will likely have a new peg hole for the standard Takara flight stand though.

So does he come with this face as an extra?

It's still one of the best scenes in The Movie. It's a shame they didn't pack something in with MP Ironhide to reference his own demise there.

You are GHOULISH, man! Maybe Takara will scratch your itch and release a special pack of Autobot "corpse faces" for you to use.

Well, they did the same thing with MP-36 Megatron, so it's only fair to include the Autobots too. Maybe a ruined torso piece for Wheeljack too

To be fair, with MP-36 Megatron, that was battle damage from his climactic fight scene with Optimus Prime in The Transformers The Movie. Even when Starscream dumped him into the vacuum of space, Megatron "still functioned."

Quantum Surge wrote:I don't get why they have to remove details to make them "cartoon accurate".
Because the cartoon art lacked detail, therefore removing details to become "cartoon accurate". If you want more details get the original, and if that's still not enough then go for some ToyHax Reprolabels.

However MP-36 also has his reformatting "face", essentially his skull. It's not just about paying homage to the Autobot's wounds though, hopefully (One Day) the MP Insecticons will come with extra crushed altmode parts.
An MP Ultra Magnus variant that bursts into segments is probably unfeasible as a toy though

Masterpiece Hero Mashers?

By the way, I wanted to make a note for everyone here regarding the recent preorders that have gone up for MP-17+ Prowl. They are all listed as manufactured by "Hasbro," not Takara. That makes sense knowing that Hasbro will be releasing these in their markets, and brings the cost down, especially since the Takara release will be a Takara Tomy Mall exclusive. However, I do have some reservations, mainly because of the joint Movie Masterpiece venture over the past year. Hasbro and Takara supposedly collaborated on those figures and even sold them under unified box art. However, the Hasbro releases still sometimes different from the Takara releases. For instance, MPM Bumblebee has different plastic colors used for the gray robot parts between the two territories. MPM Optimus Prime lacks blue paint on top of his feet for the Hasbro release but retains them for the Takara release. I don't want the Hasbro versions of MP-17+ Prowl to be lacking compared to the Takara Tomy release.

Movie Masterpiece Barricade was also there. It is our first look at what Takara will release and appears to be the exact same figure some fans already have in hand from Hasbro.

Now if they do Dinobot, then I may be interested depending on price. (Would also be nice if they can go back and get Primal as well)

Well its up on BBTS website, so I'm also hoping for a HLJ release.

steals_your_goats wrote:I noticed that on tfsource the order for 17+ has the manufacturer listed as hasbro and there is no option for Takara, will it come later or is there no option? I know they're both releasing them but I don't want to preorder the hasbro one and wind up with it having their version of the Masterpiece box instead of the Takara one. It probably sounds dumb but I like consistency in my collection and those big obnoxious hasbro Masterpiece boxes don't have a place in my collection.
Since it's the same figure and the Japanese version is a Takara Tomy Mall exclusive (it will NOT be on HLJ) it probably didn't make sense for them to import it at a much higher price. I'm going to guess that Hasbro's version will be the same box as the Japanese version, but with English text just like the Masterpiece Movie line. The Hasbro style boxes could be gone or could be reserved for their own MP exclusives (Acid Storm et al).

The Biggest toy show in Japan is Tokyo Toy Show in June.Wonder Festival is like the New York Comic Con of Japanese toy events. Takara Tomy didn't even start attending until a few years ago since WF is more of a collectors show and TT didn't fully embrace collectors until recently. I can't remember if Bandai has started attending WF or not, they usually hold their own Tamashii Nations event later.
But yes, they'll most certainly show something then.

Wonder Festival is past, and no news (unless you count the Prowl redeco).
I was hoping for something but it didn't happen. So the next major event is Tokyo?

Yeah, I think Prowl was supposed to be the surprise of the show, but they got scooped a couple day earlier. Tokyo Toy Show will probably have Beast Megatron and maybe a preview of the new Optimus Prime/Convoy. Wonder Festival Summer is in July and there's a chance of either a new animated style repaint of a previous figure (Wheeljack? Smokescreen?) or a new small G1 or BW MP since we haven't had one that isn't an MPM in a while.
Of course Japan doesn't depend on events to reveal stuff since magazines are still a thing over there. Something could be announced tomorrow for all we know.

However, there is an upscaled, knockoff version of MP Grimlock (in both be metallic or comic colours) that's bigger than MP Optimus, making it a better scale. I wouldn't recommend ANY MP (even a KO) for a 10 year old. They're not really meant to be played with by kids.
