Don Murphy Update: No Word on Megatron's Voice Yet and More

Posted by Hotrod Mar 12, 2007 at 6:27pm CDT 16,032 views
Don Murphy, one of the producers of the upcoming Transformers Movie, has posted an update on his own website. In this update Murphy reveals that the voice actor to play Megatron has still not been decided. Also, he will not be at the Vegas ShowWest event. He also confirms that there will be another trailer with more details released. Here is what Mr. Murphy posted:

"--- ITEM!- TRANSFORMERS- The cut screened for the studio last week. I am up in the rain so I missed it. The studio is excited. This blockbuster continues to show just HOW big it will be. You will believe a robot from space can kick ass. Here are the answers to all the questions I get on this one-

---------- No decision from Michael about Welker yet. Honestly I don't know how that is going to turn out. I know that I am on the record as wanting Frank. I know that the fans have made it clear that it must be Frank. I don't think it would be ludicrous to have him. But it is Michael's call.
---------- No I won't be with Skorponok at the Vegas ShowWest. It will be fun to hear about what a great idea he thought Transfomers was since he wasn't involved with it from the beginning. I don't know if anyone noticed a previous interview I did, but let's repeat it- EVERY studio passed on this movie. EVERY STUDIO. Only after that happened did all of a sudden interest reappear. The only people who KNEW this was going to be huge were Tom Desanto and that guy with the goofy picture above. Believe it as you hear about history being rewritten. Or ask Skorpy about it yourself. In the meantime Shia will be there too. He is a GREAT GREAT guy. Hi Five him for me if you are there.
-----------Yes there will be another trailer with more details. Probably at the start of the summer season. But you can watch the one we have a few more times if you want to. It is still on line."

More Bots. More News. More Awesome.

A bit of rummaging revealed that "Skorponok" refers to Lorenzo DiBonaventura, whose sum total contribution to proceedings (I hope) was the inclusion of the 'Scorponok' combat drone.

I really think Frank's probably going to be it, & they're waiting to see if there are going to be anymore outcries against the movie before they(read: M.Bay) announce it. Considering how they've made other attempts to keep exictement up & skeptics at bay(such as announcing Cullen after the first Megs pics leaked), it would not suprise me.

I bet it is Frank Welker, and they just want to keep it a Secret till the film is released.

How hard can it be? Just let Welker do it.

Ya'know, this guy really has won me over. He's about the only individual in this production that truly cares about the fans and just so happens to share many of our opinions. It's crazy that I just figured that out. I mean, I've always been very suspicious of Holloywood people, but this guy is definately an exeption.

I think its Welker who's gonna play Megatron. There's been hints over the past few weeks pointing in Franks direction.

If they can't get Welker, get Kaye

Well, if they don't do Welker, I hope they choose someone that sounds like G1 Megatron. Please don't choose celebritries based on their popularity, such George Clooney.

Doesn't Megatron have like one line in English?

Does it really matter for that?

We don't know what Megatron is going to say or in what language (unless you've read the script-- spoilsports  ). But I really hope they get Welker for Megs. It would just make things somewhat complete, you know?

What are the odds that Megatron might not even have a voice actor? If it's Frank they should've confirmed it already instead of saying things like this movie would be awesome, it'll blow your minds away, yadda yadda, etc.

All they're doing is keeping us in suspense until we actually see the movie. They only told us Cullen would be Prime just to keep us content for a little while.

Maybe they'll announce it at TransformersCon, if they're there.

There must be some kind of lines for Megatron or the Voice actor wouldn't be an issue, would it? Unless they don't want to announce that Megs doesn't have any lines, which would pretty much piss me off.

I have that same sneaking suspicion that they don't have any Megatron Lines at all, or atleast not human, and i think most of the Decepticons don't have any lines either, they will probably be mindless, Bay might be weighing that fact and thats why we haven't seen anything on voice actor confirmation, plus why not make it an issue, then not have a voice for megs in the film, it won't matter by the time the movie debuts that opening weekend, just stall the hard core fan base long enough, so they won't boycott and give it a bad name before it debuts..

I got a really good compromise michael Bay..listen or read...FRANK WELKER NEEDS TO BE MEGATRON, AND THE DECEPTICONS HAVE BRAINS AND AR NOT TERMINATORS, OR ALIENS FROM ID4!!! THEY NEED ACTUAL LINES.. BANTER BETWEEN MEGS AND PRIME... AND QUARRELLS BETWEEN STARSCREAM AND MEGS...COME ON!!!

who cares how great Don and Co. think this movie is gonna be, yeah, yeah, yeah we heard it all...show us that you keep with the core of the property..then we'll be happy..maybe

From my understanding, they have already stated that they will not be using any celebrity actors as voices....

......then again, they said right now Megs is going to be either Welker or Hugo Weaving (Agent Smith from the Matrix/Elrond from LOTR).....so who knows? :?

Yes, because Welker is not only the original voice of Megatron, but he is a voice-actor god when it comes to semi-human and completely non-human voices.

Even if Megatron only has one line... or word... or beep... his voice actor has to be placed now so that he will sound the same in the SEQUEL :-)
