Oh, you thought because we're in the middle of the holidays there couldn't possibly be a reveal, much less on a weekend? Well, Evan Brooks of the Transformers design team is here with a surprise reveal that even the leakers didn't know about! In an Instagram Reel shared with us by our own Seibertronian Sabrblade, Evan gave us a first look at Generations Selects Trypticon, a repaint of Titans Return Trypticon in darker cartoon colors. Some of the clear plastic, namely the green parts that were occasionally problematic are now opaque plastic. We also got a first look at the box which is now much more colorful and stylized than the previous plain cardboard boxes, apparently this is the direction we're going in for future Selects figures.

No further details like price or release date were given aside from pre-orders starting in early 2025. If you were looking for a second chance to get this great figure this is probably your best shot. If you plan on picking up this guy for the first time or second then let us know in the Energon Seibertron Pub forums!

Honestly the first I've heard of the translucent plastic having problems. I assumed top priority would be announcing that they found better springs for the hip-ratchets.

And maybe the lighting's throwing me off, but does anyone else think it looks like they started repainting him into Generations Selects Gigastorm, but gave up halfway? And if we're going to get GS repaints of past titans to make up for future titans being downsized, does this imply we'll get a long-awaited Metroplex reissue soon? Or has there ever been a glimmer of hope for a new Plex that's more G1 and less FoC?

This guy had a number of revisions due to issues. Not just the hips, but the back canons had joint issues, too. On mine I can just pop one of them off completely. The issue with the clear plastic is it didn't always shut on his chest properly since it's soft plastic and could hang open with Fulltilt on there.

I think there's a fair chance of a Metroplex reissue if they aren't just priming us for a new mold later.

Meh, I'm cool with my lighter grey version, with stickers.

That super dark grey is gorgeous but the pinky purple is goppin'. I'll still tr to get one as after market prices on Trypticon tend to be insane.

I'm pretty eager to get this, might not since my wallet's been drained already with these festivities, but it is nice that this mold is getting reused again and addressing some of the complaints.
I already have the TR original, but sadly its quite floppy and beaten up...
Mostly wanted it for Full-Tilt but a good condition big robosaur would be nice too!

Neat as this MIGHT be, I still have my copy of TR Trypticon, and it's doing just fine. I don't feel inclined to set aside either the monies, or the shelf space, that would be needed for a duplicate copy of Trypticon with some darker pigment here and there. An easy pass, unless it were to go on deep clearance, and if I could find a buyer for TR Trypticon to cover the cost.

Though it raises the questions: If Hasbro knew they were going to re-issue this figure, and if they ALSO knew they were going to do a Godzilla/Transformer Xover figure, then why didn't they turn Trypticon into Mecha-Godzilla and sell him that way? Instead of giving us that goofy Grimlock/Megatron thing? A silver Trypticon/Mecha-Godzilla would have been boss...

Hasbro has no involvement with the Godzilla crossover. That's all TakaraTomy's doing on their own. Takara chose Optimus and a Grimlock-Megatron over Trypticon because it's Optimus and Megatron. They're the face of the brand, so Takara knows that those two are more likely sell better in the Japanese market, whom the Godzilla crossover is primarily aimed at.

This Trypticon reissue wasn't in any of the rumors or leaks that we routinely get nowadays from the usual leakers, so it stands to reason that the decision to rerelease Trypticon like this wasn't something planned that far back from now and was a more recent decision on Hasbro's part, long after TakaraTomy had already nailed down the Optimus and Megatron figures for the Godzilla crossover.

The main reason I didn't buy a TR Tripticon was the colours. This "Trypty baby"(in Octanes voice) fixes that and looks amazingly badass. Plus I am against clear plastics. Mostly just windows, but I'm starting to just want none on figures, almost.

Pretty much the same. The colors on this new Trypticon look amazing. But now that the word is out, I'm sure the secondary market price for the TR version will bottom out. I would be happy just doing a straight "swap", but its not worth the effort to me to sell the one I have, then get the new one if I might not break even.

Hasbro reissued Fort Max last year, (an 8 year old toy at the time with electronics). They are doing the same in 2025. Hard to believe its been almost 8 years for Trypticon. As for going back and reissuing T30 Metroplex again... I just don't know. TT did it last in 2019. I still want a Metrotitan, so whether it is a repaint of T30, or a repaint of a *new* OG Metroplex in a couple of years, either way works for me.

The thing is, Fort Max and Trypticon were both Titans Return toys, and for all of the mold reuse that Hasbro has been doing as of late, they don't seem willing to go back any farther than Titans Return for reusing older molds in current toylines.

Metroplex needs a new mold. The Generations figure was good for it's time, and it blew away most fans with its size. But looking back, it was pretty basic. As was Maximus, even if he did get some improvements. But Metroplex was too tall and lanky, looking almost nothing like he did in the FoC game, on which he was supposedly based, at least in part. But even a G1 Metroplex would be thicker in every part if he was to be accurate.

I never liked that Metroplex because of that. It was a weird hybrid between FOC and G1, then it was super deformed. The final insult was that compared to the G1 original, the thing barely transformed.
And the final F-U was to make Fortmax based on that mold.

That's why I sold both of them when their resale value TO A STORE were double of what I paid.

Since I already have TR Fort and Legends Grand, I definitely would have been up for a Brave Max. Actually, now that I think about it, last years reissue may have been a test. We know the Haslab comes with a Cerebros Titan Master. maybe next year (2026) they will release a Brave Max in the selects line :-? .

Won't get any argument from me. They made one of the worst Titans so bad just for the sake of making him the "Tallest Transformer EVAR!!!(TM)DO-NOT-STEAL" because height was the number one priority. >:oP

Only for Fort Max to swoop in and reclaim that title two years later by using the same mold as a base, before HasLab Unicron finally went and showed them both how to really take that title to heart without being lazy and hollow, making Titan Metroplex look even more embarrassing in hindsight.

OH GOD! I gotta have it! GOTTA HAVE IT!!! I heard there was a rumor that they are reissuing Trypticon & I didn't care since I already have the original all decked out with decals from Toyhax. But when I actually saw this? I GOTTA HAVE IT!

Also, THIS is what I've been saying the Godzilla crossover should have been. I might have to order 2 & make a custom Godzilla since I don't like the official one they're releasing.

I've always been curious about the size of this Trypticon because in the show it seemed huge, yet is only a Titan Class, something tells me it should be larger when compared to regular bots. Same for Matroplex as well though. After all Omega Supreme is also Titan but isn't all that big compared to Metroplex in the show. He feels/seems closer to Jetfire's size but obviously bigger.

As an aside, I caught wind of a 4' Metroplex and at first thought it seems like a f=great idea but then reality set in that I've got nowhere to put something that large. It did get me to thinking on the subject of there being a market for something larger than Titan Class at about 24' tall is kind of small for a Citybot, but at $200 already I cant imaging how much it would cost for a bigger bot and TBH I'm not sure I've got the space needed for 24" bots. The display case i have for Transformers only has 13" between the shelves and that just barely fits Jetfire.

In order to have a Trypticon and a Metroplex that were truly in scale with the smaller normal-sized TF toys, their two toys would have have be as tall as a house. Titan class was created to give really big toys for the really big characters, but not so enormously big as to make the prices outlandishly ludicrous. The Planet class Unicron that HasLab made was itself the biggest official Transformers toy ever produced, and it sold for $600 USD at 27+ inches tall. Nobody should have to pay what would amount to a mortgage payment for a plastic plaything sold at normal retail.

Of course, this is mostly speaking from the perspective of fiction that does portray the Cityformers as legit city-sized characters, like the G1 cartoon and the IDW comics. The Marvel Comics, on the other hand, depicted the likes of Trypticon, Fortress Maximus, and Scorponok all as only above-average in height compared to their peers, standing only just a head or so taller than Powermaster Optimus Prime, who was likewise a bigger-than-average dude but not a gargantuan giant compared to his friends. The only one whom the Marvel Comics did depict as a city-sized individual was Metroplex, in the UK multi-parter "Space Pirates!" where he was the core component of Autobot City.

Also when you consider the old TV show was basically just an ad to sell toys, by making bigger bots it resulted in them being able to better sell higher priced toys. After all back in the 80's it was far cheaper to get a Metroplex than it is today, even if some of us still couldn't afford the higher prices then some people did. Just as it is so today. Metroplex was always one that evaded me throughout the years due to various things, firstly the cost due to being a low income family kid in 87 so I generally only got the smaller bots like tapes, bee etc. and sometimes the bigger ones like Jazz, Springer and very rarely got the bigger ones. The only two combiners I ever got were Devastator and Superion and only because they were small buy in that could be acquired over time.

Even as a young adult I never got a City sized bot because of higher prices and limited space, of course I had outgrown them in my 20's/30's and only recently got back into Transformers in 2019. So now it's really only about limited space for such big items. Though I'm not overly fond of dropping almost $200 on a toy, I have occasionally done it. lol

Then again, It's not like the original 1986 G1 Metroplex toy was all that big, anyway. It was only just a little taller than Ultra Magnus. :P

These toys were never going to be exactly in scale when you start talking about beings the size of cities, let alone planets.

I always figured Omega Supreme and most Combiners were about 4-5 times the size of a bot Like Optimus Prime.

Metroplex and Trypticon were in their own scale "beyond belief", as was FortMax and Scorponok (actually bigger then the previous two, but I can concede they were basically the same size as we have now in the Titan Toys).

TR Trypticon being somewhat smaller than T30 Metroplex has always been a sticking point for some including myself. But I made my peace with it a long time ago, Its not that big a deal (no pun intended), especially with the different constraints you have with a large Dinosaur-Like Robot vs just a humanoid one. Additionally, while I've never weighted the two, I'm pretty sure TR Tryp has more mass.

While its a little off putting, if you stand TR Typ up straight, he only looses a few inches to Metroplex. Its not nearly egregious as say.... the original Fort Max to Scorponok, which the Modern Titans fixed, and I am so happy for.

While I think Siege Omega Supreme is one of the best modern toys/titan period; I actually wouldn't mind a scaled down version that sizes with SS86 Devastator and the other combiners we've had since 2015.

Since Titan is now $200 I guess they would have to introduce a class between it and Commander? lol

Then again, Omega was made back when Titan Class was only $120. So when they start making newer bots under this higher price point instead of reissues I wonder if they'll try to make them slightly taller/bigger? Or maintain the current proportions to keep them the same size as their predecessors?
I can't imagine anything being gained by making a new Metroplex even bigger than the previous figure.

Jetfire is rather big for a Commander when compared to UM and Prime, so it seems they have already adjusted Commander Class somewhat. Or they simply ran out of Bots that size to do, Jetfire certainly doesn't fit into Titan Class. I wonder exactly what other figures can they do in Commander Class after tractor trailer rigs? Would they need to put Octane as Commander being that he's also a triple changer?

Well that does sound interesting, not having a "fixed" price for Titan Class does allow more freedom in the character selection.

Hm, I thought for sure I had seen it for like $130 someplace but passed at the time because I wasn't quite into the line enough to shell out over $100 on a TF. A decision I would seem regret when it sold out and was going for close to $300.

Late 2019 a Hasbro warehouse had a closeout and some Omegas were sold for like $50. They were popping up on Ebay and Facebook Marketplace and such for $75-100 around Christmas.
