HASBRO: Most Holiday Toys will be under $20.00

Posted by First Gen Oct 1, 2008 at 9:34pm CDT 48,920 views
In an effort to quell the economic crunch being experienced by consumers, Transformers creator HASBRO, Inc. (HAS NYSE) has issued a statement regarding toy price ranges for the upcoming Holiday season.

In the statement, HASBRO projects most toylines to fall within the $20.00 USD pricing bracket. This pricing is a direct result of the current financial stress that families have been experiencing from the recent Stock Market woes and is meant to help parents in their time of need. The Company's CEO, Brian Goldner, also stated that two thirds of HASBRO products are already priced at $20.00 USD or below.

Walmart Stores has stated that its franchise has already cut prices in advance of the Holiday season with price reductions in most Deluxe line figures of the Transformers Toys and HASBRO's Play Doh Ice Cream Shop.

Good news for us consumers for the fast approaching festivities.

"Hey, kids! The economy's taking it up the back, but guess what? Here are toys that didn't cost $20 in the first place! Hurray, all our problems are solved!"

I kid. I'm just being a smartass, that's all.

I'm not sure I fully understand what they're trying to say. Are they saying that their products are less than $20 already, or are they going to be axing prices to bring some stuff down to $20?

Well here's to hoping they'll knock the Universe Ultra prices down to $20.

It means single-carded Joes are GOING up to 19.99 (under twenty!).

Double that number for Canada BTW.

It could be good news in some ways this holiday season. I hope the WalMart sale hangs around.

If these must-have 25th Anniv Universe Deluxes are gonna go under $20, that's not good news. :?

Any chance they'll stay at $9.99 or below?

what'll be interesting is if the stores honor Hasbro and lower the prices on some things.

KB and TRU raised the prices on everything TF recently.

Put deluxes down to $20 and I'm sure many international collectors would be happy...

Clever Hasbro, making themselves look very good by saying their products are still affordable to all those Wall St types who might not have jobs come holiday time!

I wouldn't mind paying the full price like we used to if the toys weren't made of crap plastic. All I could think of was that now Hasbro is making us pay the right price for the junk that gets by QC these days.

Don't get me wrong, I like paying less for toys. Especially when X-mas is coming up. I'll be so broke again. lol. I just wish they weren't mostly junk that broke or came full of defects.

Great.

Pricing news from the fine folks that bring you $15 Marvel Legends. Now with fewer accessories and no included comic book!

Does that mean deluxes will be $19.99

So reading this... I went to hasbrotoyshop to see they have raised prices on the recolor of powerglide ( 26.99 ) vs powerglide ( 24.99 ). Silverbolt is 26.99 on the site which pretty much reflects Target raising prices I see in stores.

This must be management speak. I've already cut back but now I'm really thinking do I really want it enough before to geez.. they are raising prices on top of that.

Sounds like spin and PR to me. The majority of their toys have always been under $20, at least in the case of Transformers. Smart move and good publicity just the same.

Of course if they're serious about it they could always cut back production on the more expensive items like Ultra and Leader classes. Or they could do more activators and revive scout/basics(which they seem to be doing anyway). A few less awful Ultras wouldn't bother me. So long as they don't scale back plans for next year's Devastator(if it's awesome, I don't really care how much it costs).

Wanna bet for every Dollar Hasbro cuts from the US price they'll raise the European prise by €1? then they go and raise the US prise and do the same to Europe.
I can see it now, I'll be paying $50 for a deluxe soon, won't be long.

Oh how I wish Takara were making TFA toys, then Hasbro wouldn't see any of my money for the crap they make.
