While it made sense for Peter Cullen not to voice Orion Pax in the upcoming Transformers One movie, as he didn't voice Orion Pax in G1 either, it would have been fun to at least have him voice a different character. That's the route the Japanese dub of the movie has gone with making Tesshō Genda, the original voice of Convoy and Orion Pax (in Japan), be Alpha Trion. We also have Ryohei Kimura in the cast as B-127, who has been playing Bumblebee in all of the recent cartoons in Japan, as well as Yuichi Nakamura and Subaru Kimura from Jujutsu Kaisen. Those two will be playing Optimus and Megatron respectively.

You can check the full voice cast below, which was revealed on the official Japanese movie site.

Elita-1: Riho Yoshioka
Sentinel Prime: Junichi Suwabe
Airachnid: Ryoka Yuzuki
Darkwing: Toru Inada
Starscream: Setsuji Sato
Soundwave: Masataka Yamamoto
Shockwave: Takanori Hoshino
Jazz: Tomokazu Sugita
Yuichi Nakamura: Optimus Prime/Orion Pax
Subaru Kimura: D-16/Megatron
Ryohei Kimura: B-127/Bumblebee
Tesshō Genda: Alpha Trion

And Speaking of voice actors, Paramount released a featurette with the English voice actors, which you can see below. Enjoy!

That first season of JJK was so fun, movie was too. I dropped season two after ~3 episodes. It was like being dropped into the middle of another series altogether, and not a particularly interesting one.

I am going to watch the Japanese version. I am not a Hemsworth fan at all. I also prefer professional voice actors. My biggest reason is Nakamura Yuuichi is voicing Prime, He is my favorite Japanese voice actor.

Paramount's international campaign for the Transformers One film is revealing a lot. So, consider anything going forth a possible spoiler.

Paramount has released two clips, one for Brazil and one for Taiwan. The one for Taiwan is a trailer showing lots of new shots of Megatron (in his final form) fighting Optimus. The clip for Brazil is an uninterrupted sequence of the Iacon race. In it we see a lot fo cameos including Brawn, Red Alert, Ratchet, Arcee and Ironhide.

Enjoy!

Ah, nice to see the race position readout take name dropping into high gear.

"Speedstream just ran through a deluge of warm liquid that seems to have changed his coloration somehow...and Override has just hit the nitros and...switched gender?"

With the second trailer, I've seen enough.

I don't want the whole damn movie to be spoiled before I see it.

LOL I don't mind getting a free movie now and then with a bit of a video splicing effort. Shouldn't all Transformers media be free since they exist to sell toys anyway!? Why not release the whole thing on YouTube already! 8-}

You jest, but they released Cyberverse via YouTube and the wider fandom at large still didn't watch it :(

And they're poorer for it. The show was different, yes, but it's also good if you stick with it.

Going by this YT Playlist (https://www.youtube.com/playlist?list=P ... puNa1deWjV) quite a few of them got millions of views. But as long as the toy sales are meeting Hasbro's target, it's a success? (I don't know though. Did Hasbro make/lose money on Cyberverse? It got 4 seasons so can't be bad?)

I personally found the series a fun watch - better than RID'15 - I just don't like (not hating though) some of the designs, but it also brought Tarn to the mainstream and one of the best Volcanicus/Dinobots designs so mad credits to the series.

I'm ever an optimist. Even when a movie or series are legit "bad" (and there are many) it still carry the franchise forward. So as long as I see there are new/upcoming TF media to keep the franchise alive & relevant and the figures keep on coming, I'm happy even if some of them are not for me (I'm still on my 3rd attempt to read through IDW, but urgh it's tough for me).

Shame too, best TF show since Prime and Animated, and I would contest it can stand with both of them, especially seasons 3 and 4. That was some good TV.

Unless, of course, what those "so many" were asking for was just the Autobot/Decepticon war on Earth animated in the hand-drawn "Captain Planet" art style again. >:oP

We had posted a clip of the Iacon race from Transformers One but it was in Portugese. Now, Paramount has released it in English. This lets us hear what Jon Hamm sounds like as Sentinel Prime. For those who had not seen it yet, there are TONS of cameos here both in the visuals and as callouts, like Brawn, Red Alert, Ratchet, Arcee and Ironhide.

For me, the most disappointing movie was AoE.
The Dinobots were wasted and the :CON: "shredded" transformation were dumb and lazy.

I think that for TF1 to be worse than any Bay movies, it would have to be done on purpose.

We have casting news our own Jon Bailey is in Transformers One. He’ll be voicing Soundwave, who he voiced in the Bumblebee film. Jason Konopisos Will be voicing Shockwave and Evan Michael Lee will be voicing Jazz. They each revealed this on their respective social media.

We also have a clip of Shockwave talking if any are interested as to what that sounds like.

I've never seen Shockwave so.....emotive. Does not compute!

LOL, I'm not against it though. I'm not sure whether the VAs get to see the CG (even a rough "stickman" form, but still show enough of the motions of the characters) when recording the lines, but the emotive voiceworks match the movement on screen.

Idk about Shockwave but for what I worked on I got to see the film from early stages to finished animation. The original sessions there was nothing on screen or just animatics, all just recording the lines of the script with direction. I didn’t have to act to picture til the last session.

So you had to redo all your lines over and over to different versions of the movie, depending where in the production process it was?

As for Shockwave being emotive, I like it as well. He's my favorite Decepticon ever, and I always liked the G1 comic version. He was very active and engaging in that, unlike the "computer on legs" persona he was always given in animation media.

Yeah... Hasbro probably thought they can't compete w/ May 4th, afraid of the Star Wars fans' wailing drowning out a TF celebration.

The fact that TT seems to be the real company celebrating the franchise with a ton of fans focused releases, projects & toylines. TT came out with hits after hits like Missing-Link, T-Spark, Synergenex, TF x Studio Trigger PV, premium niche products like Karakuri transforming OP statue, the Manju Netsuke OP, and even an exhibition shows/museum and more (Godzilla, Monster Hunter, Macross, etc.) What does Hasbro have!?

I'm not too mad, I love my TFxTMNT Party Wallop (the joy this product gives me more than justify it over most Leader class figures), and there's the Knight Rider crossover coming soon too, but each are just celebrating their "coincidental" 40th anniversary, so each was more of a no-brainer collab than Hasbro really thought of something special for us fans or the TF franchise's own 40th anniversary.

So, hopefully Sept 17th can prove me an idiot and make me (and my wallet) cry with joy!

I know I've heard positive buzz about this, but all these years of waiting for a new animated film to hit the heights of the original series or beyond, and this is the BEST they can come up with?

For one thing, the designs are very chibi and unappealing, and the humor is complete slapstick and very meta / will not age well.

I just don't see who this is targeted at? You can make something appealing to all age groups without completely aiming for the little little kids. If the characters in the storyline is good, kids will get it. X-Men 97 was a prime example of bringing back a series and making it appealing to modern audiences. This is just pandering to the demographic. Oh boy, a Geewunner! This'll be fun. :P

Those be some pretty low heights.

That is not what "chibi" means.

Not what "slapstick" means, either.

PhotonWaveZero wrote:I just don't see who this is targeted at?
All ages, of course.

PhotonWaveZero wrote:You can make something appealing to all age groups without completely aiming for the little little kids.
I've yet to see anything in these trailers and clips aimed squarely at little little kids. No one's learning their ABCs or how to count to 10 or having a singalong. This ain't Sesame Street, here, and certainly wouldn't allow the word "bada**" to be spoken in front of that age group.

PhotonWaveZero wrote:If the characters in the storyline is good, kids will get it.
Couldn't agree more, cuz what we got here are good characters in the storyline. :D

So too is X-Men 97 pandering to its demographic.

PhotonWaveZero wrote:I don't think we're ever going to get a worthy follow up to G1.
GOOD! Cuz we don't need one. :P

On the contrary, I've acknowledged plenty that has come after G1 that was quite interesting. High Moon studios has done some of the most interesting work to date with the transformers franchise. War for Cybertron and Fall of Cybertron were excellent, both in terms of storyline and tone. They were not traditional G1 Canon, more of a reimagining. Transformers Prime was also interesting, however flawed. Armada also had its moments. RID also had its moments. The war for Cybertron trilogy, had it been handled better, had promise, but the voice acting and morose tone was questionable.

This take on the franchise just feels very childish, with some Nickelodeon style humor in the vein of that most recent Seth rogen turtles film, which was incredibly lousy.

I hope to be proven wrong, but my expectations are being kept extremely low.

To say G1 was flawed in every way is an understatement. I took my 14-year-old daughter to see the re-release in theaters a few months ago, and we laughed hysterically at some of them ridiculous things that went down in the first few episodes. Rose colored glasses for sure, but it's still responsible for all that has come after.

I'm not expecting the sheer badassery that was the divisive transformers Autobot City siege that resulted in Prime's death.

No moreso than Michael Bay's special brand of juvenile humor has been. :P

PhotonWaveZero wrote:with some Nickelodeon style humor
Well, in all fairness, it is a movie made by Paramount, Nickelodeon's parent company. ;)

In a previous interview, the director said he crammed so much humor into the first trailer because of how deep and tragic the film's story gets, to prevent people from thinking it was going to be a moody film with no fun in it.

Which was never about being bold or daring, but about cynical hubris born out of a capitalist desire to sell new toys and discard the old ones like trash. They killed off Optimus back then because they didn't care about Optimus, a carelessness that backfired on them big time and from which they've never recovered to this day.

Reevaluating the joke in this clip, I think I figured out what it is that's actually wrong with it. It's not that it's childish or trying too hard, it's that it doesn't seem to have a complete understanding of what it's trying to.

The kind of silly voice repetition gag Bumblebee uses is typically found in the kind of humor that's meant to make preschoolers laugh, but the word used in this repetition is a cuss word; cuss words humor is more commonly meant to get a laugh out of teenagers and young adults.

In theory, it seems this joke is trying to appeal to as many audiences of all ages as much as possible, but in execution, it's trying to do so by using two completely different tactics from polar opposite ends of the age range spectrum. This results in a joke that's trying to make adults and teens laugh at a gag that they feel too old to laugh at, and trying to make preschoolers laugh at a word that traditionally isn't aimed at that young a demographic.

In this sense, the joke itself isn't necessary dumb, but rather, it's having an identity crisis.

I just don't see who this is targeted at? You can make something appealing to all age groups without completely aiming for the little little kids. If the characters in the storyline is good, kids will get it. X-Men 97 was a prime example of bringing back a series and making it appealing to modern audiences. X-men 97 is a prime example of pandering to a specific demographic. It had fan service by the gallons. But since you are a fan and you felt serviced, you were ok with it.

I'm sorry but I don't think Xmen 97 was pandering to a specific demographic. It's set in the year 1997, were you expecting smartphones and Taylor Swift? The stories were being drawn from the 80s and 90s,considered some of the best comics ever printed, it wouldn't make sense to do more modern stories, yet.

I understand that but the show was a continuation of the lady season, there was a thread to follow, if the called the show X-men 97 but set it in 2024 it wouldn't have made sense. If anything it was refreshing to see an Xmen show that wasn't Wolverine and friends.

That doesn't really contradict Will's point. X-Men '97 100% pandered to a specific demographic of fans.

I don't know what that has to be controversial. There's nothing wrong with that. It is a great show. But let's not pretend it was a mere continuation of the original. It went into much darker and emotionally resonant places, and matured the content to match that demographic they were pandering to.

Because it wasn't pandering, the show got darker because the source material got darker, much darker. If I seem defensive it's because fans have made the term pandering a negative like they did nostalgia.

Na, there's a bunch of storylines and source material they could have chosen and they went with the one that Beau De Mayo felt would be a better fit for the audience it was made for (as he recently confirmed when Disney was asking him to do different stories). And the source material did not get darker. The darkest material from the comics is not from the late 90s but instead from the earlier 80s with God Loves Man Kills and then from the more recent era of X-Force from 10 years ago (which they didn't use).

And yes fans have made the term pandering negative, but that's on them. And that's what I was pointing out. Someone called this new film pandering to its audience and all I did was call out that what they liked was pandering to them. If people are triggered by a term, then they shouldn't use it themselves because it can always be flipped right back to them.

And I want to be very clear, there is NOTHING WRONG with liking something that was specifically made to appeal to you, that's the point. There is nothing wrong with good fan service. We are fans, we will give our attention/money to what services us.

I loves X-men 97 and I can't wait to watch Transformers One. Till all are ONE
