Michael Bay On ROTF's New Characters

Posted by Tigertrack Apr 15, 2009 at 7:54pm CDT 40,203 views
MTV.com- Michael Bay seems to be just busting at the seams to start revealing information about his new movie.

After telling us about Arcee's unfortunate future, and other tidbits to try to get us excited about the movie (like Steven Spielberg loving it, saying it's Bay's best movie, etc.).

Well, the next bit of information he reveals may, or may not endear the movie to you more. You be the judge. Here's Bay talking about the movie characters, most specifically Mudflap, and Skids...

""The twins are quite fun," Bay said of the comedy-relief duo, remembering his inspiration for including them. "I just kept thinking, 'What if we have two dumb Transformers that are young and dumb?' ... They are just irreverent, dumb Transformers.""

And then he goes on to talk about the tackling of Devastator and how challenging it was for ILM...

"And then, of course, there's Devastator — the massive Decepticon who Bay recently revealed would be getting his own IMAX scene and consists of several Contructicon robots banded together for maximum destruction. "It's the most complicated model that George Lucas' company has done in 30 years," Bay marveled. "In all the 30 years of [Industrial Light and Magic] making movies, it's the most complicated digital model — and it's tenfold in terms of the most complicated. It's taken a long time to do."

You can read the rest of Bay's comments about some of the movie's new characters by going to MTV.com.

More Bots. More News. More Awesome.

Lots of spectacle, but let's hope for some substance too. After many viewings of the TF movie, my only gripe is how little character development there was for about half the robots.

Didn't anyone learn from the fiasco that was Jar Jar Binks? Dumb characters aren't "fun", they're annoying and pointless!

Sadly there is probably a better shot of them being Jar-Jar Binks x 2. I like to set the bar low, that way I won't be disappointed.

Sounds like the twins are tailored after Bay himself.

From when I saw their goofy, droopy eyes I knew we were in for a couple of annoying, comedy relief characters. What's the rating on this movie again?

God i knew it...

The twins, being dumbasses and another stupid moment in movie History that Bay will proudly say 'That was my idea'.

Spielberg saying this is his best movie isnt that much of a compliment, whats he had to compare it to?

Michael Bay is to Itelligent Sci-fi what Salmonela is to Restaurants.

well Grimlock was a pretty big moron and he seems to be loved to this day still, so who knows how these twins will be received.

but at the same time, if Frenzy from the 1st movie is any sign, they probably will be stupid too. lol

ok....honestly i have no problem with Frenzy except for that scene where he walks hiding his face acting all casual, i mean the worst part is that nobody noticed him...how can you miss a 4 foot tall robot? he wasnt that far away, people in the background would have seen him for sure.....but i digress.

:P

Thing about Grimlock, and all the Dinobots is that theyre first seen as a powerful force of ass-kicking destruction and then their charachter is built up as being Dumb.

These guys are about as subtle as a club to the face. Sloping eyes, slack jaws etc....

Basically what Bay thinks is hilarious.

But Devastator sounds awesome.

I just hope that the moron twins don't get too much screen time. I don't see the point in making a couple "young and dumb" characters for any reason really. It isn't even good for the kids. I have a bad feeling about those twins. they are going to be annoying and probably be in and out of the entire movie.

And it worked the opposite way around in the comics.

It would be interesting to see a poll of Grimlock fans though, find out what percentage actually like the comic-relief version.

When Michael Bay announced Arcee's death, many were retorting on whether or not he liked the fuglybros. And now, straight from the horse's mouth... I just hope they don't act or sound too retarded in the movie. Still hoping to see big Devastator eat them.

I really like both incarnations of Grimlock. The Season 3 G1 is where I lose interest because he is much less warrior, and much more au pair.

I am seriously hoping Cheech & Chong play Mudflap and Skids really badly.

What if we don't.
I guess we should be thankful he didn't name them 'Young and Dumb'.
