New Details Regarding the Two Transformers Films Currently in Development

Posted by william-james88 Jan 27, 2020 at 8:44pm CST 56,470 views
We had a whole fanfare of upcoming movie news for a while until everyone was burnt out of the unreliable nature of the news (even though it was coming from the producer) to the point that most movie news sites chose to just stop reporting anything unless there was something truly concrete. Well, we actually have some concrete news now. We learn through Variety that two script writers are currently writing two different scripts that are meant to become the next Transformers films in the franchise. Variety states that these two films are in active development. One of the scripts is written by Joby Harold who wrote the Guy Ritchie King Arthur film, and who also wrote the script for the DCEU Flash film Warner Bros has yet to deliver. The other script is written by  James Vanderbilt whose most recent films are the Adam Sandler Netflix movie Murder Mystery, The Meg and Independence Day Resurgence.

I was wondering if any of the crew of Bumblebee would return.
Hopefully these new guys to the Franchise deliver a nice story.

I wish that the image was used officially. Looks very nice, what with the two eras in the Movie continuity being presented.

From what I know of the DC movies so far, and of Independance day resurgance and the meg, those are not writing credits that make me feel good. But I didn't watch those movies either, and I'm just going by hear-say to tell me they were bad, so I want to be wrong.

I think Travis Knight has only directed Kubo and the Two Strings before you never know sometimes you hit it out of the park. At least they have some credits. Just tryin’ to see the positives here. Bumblebee II ASAP please. Can’t wait!

I haven't seen James Vanderbilt work yet,but I believe Joby Harold has it in him,to create a great Transformers script.Look at this scene in King Arthur: Legend of The Sword:

Jude Law's perfomance is great, but you have to give credit to the writing,it's not hard to see a Decepticon leader giving this speech.

Ok, that speech is chilling and totally perfect for a tyrant like Megatron or Starscream.

The only James Vanderbilt films I've seen are The Amazing Spider-Man (which I didn't think very much of) and The Meg (which was decent enough, nothing fantastic but not bad either). If he truly is writing a Beast Wars film I'd be down for that, though I'm not expecting a masterpiece. I haven't seen King Arthur: Legend of the Sword, but haven't heard great things about it, so I'm not sure what to think about the writer tackling a Bumblebee sequel.

Other sites are saying that this is a true reboot and that no one is coming back from any movie cast wise :-?

oh man, if they go with a beast wars movie like i've heard, i can only speculate on what they'd do with it.

I've said this before and I'll say it again: What made Beast Wars so good in the first place would likely never be recaptured by Hollywood.

With our luck, we'd end up with Optimus Primal throwing his feces at the camera while Megatron (voiced by a misdirected Sylvester Stallone) roars all of his dialogue (because he's a dinosaur, geddit?), while Cheetor (voiced by Owen Wilson) is the personal ride/pet/aide/sidekick/etc. of the movie's lead role who, for some reason, is an obnoxious human character played by a white male actor with a macho physique and a 'Murica! attitude.

Oh f**k no!

Omg, haven't they learned anything? The King Arthur writer? That film has practically no writing. That's the new guy?

And the other a freaking Adam Sandler movie? The Meg are you kidding me? Independence Day Resurgence, I do have that on blu ray but it's just a mindless conveluted (probably misspelled that, what I meant stacked on sh*t) mess of a movie with oh well f*ck it writing .

I had hopes for the new Transformers film, I saw somewhere (youtube so probably lies) that Bumblebee 2 will have Megatron in it and will be a full reboot scrapping the terrible Nascar dudebro, same plot every movie films. They'll probably also add a terrible soulless director who made a Justin Bieber movie or directed the Smurfs before this.

I'm sorry for being so grumpy but I'm starting to feel that Bumblebee was just a fluke in their idea of Transformers films and that they are course correcting back to embarassing nonsense.

You know there are good writers and director's out there. I heard (again youtube) that Christopher Nolan is going to I think direct the new Green Lantern movie. Now Nolan is too good for Transformers, I can see that. But please get half a decent writer and director to do this. The special effects are always A-Team, but man every thing else, what the hell.

Let's not judge the writers too harshly till we see something tangible (okay I'm not thrilled at the idea of a Nolan Green Lantern but at the same time, I'll reserve judgement till I at least see a trailer, and find out which Green Lantern they'll be doing). Afterall nothing could come of these scripts in the end (and that's nothing to say what will remain of the original scripts once rewrites are done.

Rewrites, directorial editing, studio exe editing, test screenings, further rewrites, reshoots, and edits before it hits theaters. ALL the THINGS that can ruin a movie; I mean look at what happened to the Dark Phoenix movie, and probably the New Mutants movie, it was heavily rewritten and had outside pressure of a studio sale.

A script's writer can't be discounted, but neither can it be counted upon, and the same with the director. All we as fans can hope for is that the people sitting in the writer/director/editor's chair actually care about the project and franchise behind it. That is what helped Bumblebee be(e?) great, and what helped make the Marvel movies great (Kevin Feige). IMO, we could almost dump di Bonaventura, and get a Feige like person to take command.

Anyway, this rant brought to you by the crap show that is the Last Knight being the only thing *worth* watching on TV right now...

Aaah yess, I agree.

I've been watching Midnight's Edge a lot lately. My god what happens behind the scenes at the making of movies today, it's a massacre.

*Looks it up real quick* Bonaventura did, but has also produced the entire run of the live action movies and all of their :michaelbay: plot holes and inconsistencies. Feige, in his work on/with the MCU, is constantly on sets, interacting with directors and screenwriters, and being present to know what is going on. In behind the scene documentaries or footage for the TF movies Bonaventura is never mentioned or seen, and like the difference between Travis Knight and Michael Bay, people that genuinely care about their product do better than people using it as a paycheck. The only producer I saw that interacted with making one of the TF films was Bay in Bumblebee and only really because that was the filming day where they were working on the quarry explosion scene. :michaelbay: :michaelbay: :michaelbay: Knight has even said that Bay was only really there for action scenes.

Thanks to reports coming in new outlets including Deadline, we have news that the next live action Transformers film has finally received a release date.

This information comes to us from Paramount themselves, as reported by Deadline. The next film was given the release date of June 24, 2022, which will place it almost 4 years after the Bumblebee movie in terms of release date, following a similar release date difference to the Dark of the Moon and Age of Extinction break. This also places it back in the Summer release schedule time period, which prior to Bumblebee every live action Transformers had followed.

There are currently 2 films scripts that are up for consideration for this time slot, which includes the Beast Wars based film written by James Vanderbilt of Murder Mystery fame, and another movie set in the prior live-action universe written by Joby Harold of Army of the Dead Fame. Which movie will get this slot is yet to be determined, and whether or not both films get made is also still up for debate.

This is also separate from the Animated Transformers film.

Check out the excerpt from the Deadline article below, and let us know what you think of this news in the comments section below!

Paramount has given a date for a new live-action Transformers movie of June 24, 2022.

The studio is in development on two different projects: one by Murder Mystery scribe James Vanderbilt and the other by John Wick Chapter 3 EP and Army of the Dead scribe Joby Harold. The Vanderbilt project, from what we’ve heard, is based on Transformers spinoff Beast Wars which are robots that transform into robotic animals like Cheetor (Cheetah), Optimus Primal (Gorilla), Rhinox (Rhinoceros) and more. The other is reportedly in the Bumblebee universe. It’s not definite yet which one will make it to production.

I would be suprised if it wasn't the Bumblebee follow up myself. That seems more a sure fire bet
