Hasbro wins this round in terms of fiction-accuracy.

True, but what sets this apart is the replacement of Flanker aka Sky High with Phaser.

Loving that deco on Brainstorm. I'm just getting into MTMTE, which is my first introduction to him in fiction, but the G1-style toy deco really wins out for me. And being in New Zealand means I'd have to import the Hasbro one anyway, so paying a little extra isn't a big deal for me.
I definitely prefer the Hasbro Tailgate, though.

Also I think that when the headmaster's plugged in, it pushes down a little panel in the cockpit that shows the headmaster techspecs readout sticker; which to be fair is a little simplistic compared to the tumbler system in the G1 toys. But hey, IDW brainstorm, that alone makes it worthwile for me

It is actually similar to the system used for the smaller Headmasters: Hosehead, Nightbeat, Siren, Fangry, Horri-Bull and Squeezeplay: they all used a single tumbler due to size limitations.

It looks like there's just a spring and a clip on the techspec panel

Same principle, no? One single panel or tumbler for all 3 specs.

No i'm not denying that, I was just commenting it's a springy panel. until now I thought the tech specs were the details in the cockpit, like in place of the controls, not a panel that goes over it when the headmaster's plugged in

What was cool about the classic G1 Headmaster system is that each headmasters were interchangable between different robots. Depending of the head the robot was wearing, it's stats changed accordingly. This way, the true powere were only in the heads, the headless body being just a brainless vegetable with zero in every stats.
Still, that new and simpler system on Brainstorm is a nice hommage without creating a costly gimmick.

I like the Targetmaster with Takara Swerve better, it actually looks kinda like his My First Blaster from MTMTE. Looks like Tailgate is more G1 toy coloured as the Hasbro one is IDW comic colours.

Hisashi Yuki just updated his twitter with some fun new images teasing the new Takara Legends figures that are due to be released soon. These images all features Rattrap in interesting situations with Optimus Primal, Roadbuster, Sky-Byte, Jetfire, and Arcee? We don't get to see much of Arcee but looks like there will be a darker shade of pink? All of these figures will feature different paint appicaltions from their Hasbro counterparts. Let us know what you think in the Seibertron.com Fourms here. We've also mirrored the images below for your viewing pleasures and remember keep your optics tuned to Seibertron.com for the latest in news and updates, plus the best galleries around!

Arcee is his great aunt
The Takara Jetfire looks sharp and won't be a crumbling mess in 20 years. I'd prefer no chrome and more paint apps I think

I know! I took one look at the Hasbro one at the store then went home and pre-ordered the Takara one. NOT going to deal with another BM Jetstorm fiasco. I can wait til December for it to arrive.

Slightly off topic, why do i have the weird feeling that if Cosmos is released in the Legends line, in might be cheaper than the aftermarket prices for the generations figure.
