Scott Farrar (of ILM) Interviewed

Posted by Raymond T. Jun 21, 2007 at 3:50pm CDT 23,749 views
CanMag has taken some time out and interviewed the visual effects supervisor at Industrial Light & Magic for Michael Bay's Transformers Movie, Scott Farrar and talked about the Special Effects that went into the movie.

"It's actually physical pieces moving. This all is very complex. This toy [the original Optimus Prime action figure] has 51 pieces. Our Optimus Prime in the movie has 10,108. So what you're talking about, and all that has to be chained. Chained means it's all got to be hooked together so it all travels along together as it moves, whether it's an arm move or a body movement or a transformation. That means it's complex, yes, of course. There's a lot of firepower that has to be in the computers to have all that information travel on, not only the pieces but all the information. The paint, the detail, the colors, the dirt, all the things that are textured onto it".

Wow. 51 compared to 10,108. I'd say that's a a pretty big diference.

well i assume they mean the MP Prime.

he has a lot of pistons in his joints and stuff to make him seem like a real mechanical machine so i'm sure those would count as moving parts.

but yeah my mom finally saw commercials for this movie and she wants to see it now...she had ZERO interest before. so i think whether its a good movie or not, they seem to be doing a good job of getting the non-fans interest. that should bode well for its box office.
