I've said that while collectors may feel a toyline is more for them than kids, hasbro still treats its toylines as toylines for kids through their advertisements, negotiated shelf space in retail stores, and communications. I just find it so odd that they still do that with this Star Saber project. Like this post on their Facebook page:
They also did that with the Golden Disk reveals where they'd tell parents to go preorder a toy at a particular adress. And I just wonder, what's with this damn charade? Are they really thinking a parent sees these online only toys of niche characters and s hoping they order it? Why not just talk like you are talking to fans, who are undeniably the main target audience for this product?!
Let’s Say Go!!! We have reached 14,000 backers and the V-Lock Cannon and Blast Effects are now included with your #HasLab Victory Saber. Onward to 17,000 backers to unlock the Victory Autobot Display Stand!
Parents, pre-order and back the #Transformers Victory Saber HasLab project for $179.99. This crowdfund project will run until October 10th, 2021.

Its probably a legality requirement, a lot of kids would see this online through sites like ours...

I'd say it could be something even simpler like a standard paragraph/form letter where they only have to plug in the specific product details.

How long had you been asleep?
It passed 13K on Monday 10/4 around 9pm EDT. We discussed above, the jump earlier today was about 1,200 give or take.

They might be thinking that, sure. They are toys after all. And most parents probably don't care (or even know) how niche the character is. If they think their kid will like it, they will buy it.
That's certainly how my parents operated, at least. Apart from Optimus Prime, they didn't know the characters, so they just bought me whatever figures they saw. And, frankly, I didn't care either. I got Transformers, and I was happy.

Those don't count, being Japan exclusives. But if you compare the base prices of SS and WFC toys, they are more expensive in Japan...
....wait....
I may be talking out of my ass here. Japan display their prices WITH the sale tax included. That's why they seems more expensive. Furthermore, the base prices get cheaper when you checkout at Amazon.jp. The sales tax is removed.
So does that mean Mandarake is screwing foreign orders over?

I'm just thinking, if it was a Bumblebee or an Optimus Prime under $50, I could understand marketing to the parents. The fact that it's around $200 (after taxes) of an unrecognizable character (to a parent that would be "shoppinging off the ads" to find a gift for their child), it just really doesn't make sense. I would be very interested to know how many parents with no affinity for Transformers backed this because they were looking for a gift for their kid that likes Transformers. I need stats Hasbro

Mandarake is not a retailer in the proper sense that it gets a toy from the distributor (supplier), they are a collectible second hand store. So we can't apply the same principles. And this Victory Saber isn't sold at Japanese big box retail either so it's in it's own pricing category as well.
Anyways, for those curious about the situation generally, toys at Japanese retail have always been more or less the same price as toys in the US.
If anyone wants more info on this, here is a link I keep handy explaining it: takara-tomy-transformers-legends-thread-p1740815.php#p1740815

He does cost more but not as much as you think. That price includes taxes, his base price is $220. And we are looking at exchange rate futures for 2022 so I kinda get where this is coming from. It's being pessimistic on the value of the yen.

I'd be willing to bet on at least 3K from TTMall, so the stand should be a lock by now. Fingers crossed for the shield and lil fellas.

Mandarake doesn't charge sales tax on foreign orders. In fact the physical stores don't either, they have special duty free procedures for tourists.

So here's a question I've been thinking of...they'll be making 15,000 (at least) Victory Sabers...how many Commander Class Sky Lynx or Titan Class Scorponok do you think Hasbro made?
I'm having a tough time estimating. TRU Canada has 85 stores...say 10 per store is 850, so round to 1K. Twice that for Walmart gets us to 3K, and double that again for the rest of Canada is about 6K for the country...that seems low to me...
