Transformers Movie: the Most Pirated Film of 2007

Posted by i_amtrunks Jan 2, 2008 at 4:56pm CST 35,978 views
The Transformers Movie has added another record to it's seemingly ever growing list, only this time it is a record that Paramount are sure not to want;

According to torrentfreak.com, Transformers was the most downloaded Film of 2007.

Torrentfreak.com reports that the Transformers Movie was downloaded a whopping 569,259 times from a single torrent site alone. Meaning the actual number is likely to be much much higher.

The Transformers Movie was downloaded 60,000 times more than the 2nd most downloaded film of the year "Knocked Up".

Seibertron.com would like to stress that it in no way endorses or supports torrent sharing, or illegal downloading of any kind in any way, shape or form.

More Bots. More News. More Awesome.

It doesn't surprise me that hardly anyone wants to pay full price to watch it. Besides it is no crime to watch. They even show newly released dvd movie titles on the tv screens on Circuit City or other electronic stores. But selling pirated copies that is a no - no. If you don't want to end up in jail and pay a huge fine later. Yikes!

Um. Yes it is. It is against the law to pirate media and software. Whether you be uploading it or downloading it, it's still illegal.

And showing new movies at Circuit City is not the same. The company has paid to have those movies in the store. Try sitting in front of one of those TV's for 2 hours and $5 says some nice fellows will escort you either to a different section or out of the store entirely. Not because you didn't pay but because you're loitering.

Its a sad, sad reality. From personal experience just buying something over ebay or where ever, you really don't know what your getting until you get it. Paid 50 bucks for a DVD set only to find out it was pirated. All in all, you may not be the one downloading but unknowingly paying for something that was pirated makes you a victim.

Is this any surprise to the fandom? The same group that drops hundreds of dollars for prototype figures that 'somehow' got out of the factory, instead of waiting three months to pay ten bucks?

I watched it twice in the theater, one and a half times on the internet, and bought the DVD.
If they want to claim they lost revenue off me, I call bullshit.

I actually saw the movie online before I got a chance to go to the theater and see it, saw it about a half dozen times in the theater (including the IMAX), found a dvd rip online and watched that once the movie left the theater, and bought the DVD the day it came out. I don't see a problem with downloading in my own case because I spent plenty of money watching it in the theater over and over, then buying the DVD, lol.

And I helped.

....But between watching the movie in theatres twice with my wife & kids, buying the Wal-mart promo DVD set with the second prequel DVD, & then the HD-DVD version, it's not like they didn't make money off of me.

Oh, & I also deleted it off of my hard drive the second I got home with the DVD version.

I'm not suprised at all.

This is why I'm not suprised.

This quote says it all.

Besides, alot of fans (including myself) not only saw the movie multiple times at the theatre, but got one of the many cool DVD releases.

Its safe to say Paramount didn't really lose out on this.

And for the movie to be available by torrent, means an insider leaked it anyway. No one downloads cam movies anymore.

I am not entirely surprised. People sometimes refuse to see a movie in the theaters because they do not want to pay x-amount of currency to see it. Plus, the Internet has made it easy to download movies and/or view movies online before the movie comes out on video. Most people feel that they will not get caught...sometimes they do and other times, they do not. As for me, I saw the movie in theaters about 6 times then waited for it to come out on video before I saw it again.

I dont blame people. Its expensive to drive to the movies and then pay between $12-$15 for a ticket. The movie made a shitload of money so people paid to see it as well. Plus im sure at least 20% of that number were us fans who give most of out money to the franchise and didnt feel like spending that money on seeing a movie 5 times. Im just suprised that TF was the most downloaded. I would have thought Pirates would've been seeing as how alot of people said it sucked and not to waste the money to see it. I just want to see what Bay and Paramount have to say about this. If they bitch then that just proves they are idiots.
