Hmm. Perhaps I wasn't articulate enough illustrating my point with those pics. I'm not the sharpest knife in the drawer as they say. What I meant to express by those pics is that throughout human history the female form,although depicted in many shapes, has always been recognizable regardless of culture or level of detail.

That's where fiction plays a key role. If a fiction can define and develop a character as female, people would be more open to it. The problem lies, as you put it, in 'calling' a random repaint female and leaving it there; with no femininity and no fiction to develop the character as female, there's really no reason to think that it is, or care that it is.

I dont know. The fact that this is the first botcon to ever not sell out of sets at the show after supposedly having been made in fewer numbers than previous years tells me otherwise.

And Kanrabat, Hasbro confirmed they are not wrking on beast combiners. No Predaking and I am thus assuming no Piranachon (dont know about that one). Like you, I now have my 3 combiners with Devastator ordered as well so I dont know when I will be purchasing more generations stuff.

Hasbro didn't drop the ball by making the set all repaints, we all knew that from the get-go. I also hated it from the get-go, but that is besides the point. They dropped the ball when they decide to make a set that was going to be all repaints the first female combiner (granted, it was by fan choice), and then make such a big public deal about it. That level of notoriety deserved unique molds, not repaints. A naked grab for money.

Creating one mold for a fan's choice figure (like Windblade) is one thing. Making six, on the other hand, (not to metion making them double as combiners with 4 as limbs, one as a torso, and one as a chestplate) is an entirely different thing.

Exactly, they should have scrubbed the fan made thing, and just made a new set of female figures from the get-go, they know there is a great desire for them, so they should have done it correctly and made a big deal about it.

Agreed, I don't mind how Victorian looks. Girls don't always have to look sexy in armour or as robots. If they look girly and hot in the cartoon and/or show, than make the toy that way. If she's tough and strong (Strongarm), than make the toy that way.

Scrubbing the fan made thing would of been equally as bad as that would if gave the impression that the vote was for nothing. You don't just say "hey guys, know that we said you were going to pick every aspect of the combiner? Yeah well screw that noise, as now we're ignoring what you vote for or what you wanted out of this, we're just going to do our own thing"

I don't think a lot of money was put aside for this project, enough for the repaints and retooling but new moulds? Not likely. Even when the results were in, they had to showcase the results in the same year as the vote or people would if forgotten, making time a factor and then their budget which was most likely fixed.

They could've at least made a new mold for the torso bot, maybe even the Legends to go with. I think the sting would also hurt less if Combiner Wars wasn't so repaint-happy...



And one of these days that list of non-sterotypically-feminine females is going to have to include more than 2 characters that the average (nerdy) fan might know.

Slipstream is the greatest example of a "streamlined" repaint. She was ORIGINALLY created as FEMALE clone of Starscream and yet for her design for the show they decided to make her female in appearance. I even Buy Strika as a female because she sound like one and somewhat resemble more of the bigger variety of the gender. These repaints are pretty lazy on Hasbro's part, but not NEARLY as lazy as the list of bots and toys that were repainted from male figures JUST BECAUSE. I think it's ridiculous that a female figure has been pretty restricted to hot pinks and purple repaints of male figure for the first 15 years in the transformers lifetime. You want lazy repainting, repaint Optimus Prime pink, and call him Melodus Prime. Then everybody will buy it. It's like just because people expect mediocrity, that we should accept it and move on. Well EXCUSE me princesses, for standing for truth and JUSTICE (hehe, "Justice"). I will continue to complain on the internet like the rabid fanboy that I am, because...that's what I do!

What was I talking about again? Oh yes, the figures, Ahem...As I said before, the only one of these figures that is remotely interesting to me is the voyager one. The rest are a pass on sight. Enjoy guys. Someone "needs" to like them.

On the topic of Victorion looking feminine, I have to say that, despite the couple of issues I have with them, the new hands and feet do help with that.

I guess I really have to say this, it's a cat. If I put a male cat and a female cat in front of you, would you be able to tell which is which without checking parts that robot cats probably don't have?

Most of those up there, someone other than Hasbro decided they were female. Who did so varies, but some of them it only happened _years_ after they were first made.
