Thats not true, nothing accompanied YOTDragon Optimus. Omega was the second year of this and the trend wasnt cemented yet. In retrospect they gave that Omega a lot more effort and chose to retool him rather than simply giving a new deco which they did for the 2 years following. So what I am saying is that he doesnt fit the mold the past 2 years (and probably this one) did. So, to me, he would have made more sense as a standard platinum reissue which sees a tad bit more effort.

Nicer coat of paint or not it's not even a Generations toy. It's an Energon toy. Outside of the GDO weirdness (which was like a precursor to the Platinum Edition line), Generations doesn't use molds from non-CHUG lines, especially ones that were long dead for nine years.Hellscream9999 wrote:I dunno, it still feels like it was lined up to be in the gen line, maybe part of the foc line, but never made it to fruition; just because it had a nicer coat of paint slapped on it, doesn't mean that it was never originally intended to be retail release![]()

Other than Omega and Ultra Magnus, did any Platinum figures get any retooling (other than "for safety reasons" stuff on G1 reissues)?

Do you own the mold at all? I do (passed up rid Scourge for that piece of junk) I don't really wanna crush your dreams, but first find out if the electronics have been gutted - I honestly don't remember - but even if they aren't, I can't really recommend it at that price, unless you really want it
-Kanrabat- wrote:Like Butterscotsh Optimus and Soundwave, it's another ultra-mega overpriced "collector item" with a piss-poor deco.
JFK, even last year optimus and Soundwave still warm the shelves at 33 or 50% clearance sale. Even at that price, they are too expensive! This year, you can bet your left nut that this ape will warm the shelves good with his but... Even at clearance prices.

Soundwave never got to clearance. He just up and disappeared one day.
But yeah they warmed and so will he!

Soundwave only dissapeared from TrU.ca. In stores (at least, in mine), there's a ton of him, warming the shelves at 150$ instead of 220$. Even at that price, no one want to buy. Optimus is warming the shelves, even at 100$ instead of 200$. Finally, the insecticons warm the shelves at 70$ instead of 120-ish$. At least, the dinobots were reduced at 100$ instead of 200$ from the start, making their regular price 100$.
That's what they should do. the REGULAR price should be 50% of the suggested retail price. Becasue all those platinums are NOT worth double or triple the price of the original. Especially if they come in ugly-ass deco.
william-james88 wrote:Alright, thanks for clarifying! 100$ is a good price for the dinobots by the way. The deco is good too and plus they all have new heads.

That, I can agree with. 100$ for the dino set IS a good price. It's the RIGHT price. Not 200$. Also, they are in a deco people want. However, would you have bought them if their colors was clear and butterscotch? Even at 100$?
WHAT WHERE THEY THINKING for Optimus and Soundwave?

Yup, the platinum Dinobots did:
And Perceptor got some new stuff too:
There was no safety stuff changed to the G1s from their original Hasbro release.
And Platinum Predaking got an exclusive Sword (redeco of BH Starsabre) that never came with previous reissues of him:
These last two arent necessarily tooling but show that there was more to these reissues than a mere deco change.
william-james88 wrote:While Year of the Monkey Optimus Primal has been available for preorder at Asian retailers and US importer sites, we finally have a listing from the actual exclusive retailer in the west: Toysrus.
Fellow Seibertronian Shajaki has found this listing on Toysrus.ca and this Platinum edition seems quite scalper proof. Not only is there a limit of 2 per person, but it is also $199.99 Canadian ($140 US).
If anyone is curious as to how this redeco of Air Attack Optimus Primal looks like, we have already seen some in hand images here. The listing also offered us some new stock images.
I have the original so there won't be any surprises here. I'm just a big BW/BM fan, and while it was intentional or not he's basically a new Primal Prime (which I love).Hellscream9999 wrote:Do you own the mold at all?
