Technically, that would be an initialism, not an acronym. An initialism becomes an acronym when the initials used form a pronounceable word.

This is not as bad as some of yall make it out to be. I think with the right kind of work, he will make a great version of this Megatron. Considering how he's no way close to the original other than the silver/grey body, maybe not using Welker is better. Either way, as some of us say, reserve judgement until after watching the movie. People jump on things way too fast these days.

As a staunch g-oner I am totally and utterly disappointed. I will accept it though and move on with my life and still enjoy the upcoming movie. I will though think aoout what could have been.

I think Weaving will be great. I never saw Welker's voice going along with the new Megs. If Megs looked like G1 Megs, then Welker would have been the man. I originally saw this Megs being voiced by David Kaye. IMO this Megs kinda remind me of BM Megs. The new movie Megs has an uber evil look and Kaye's voice works for uber evil. Welker's voice fits the more maniacal than evil Megs from G1. I'm really surprised about Weaving doing the voice; however, I think his voice will fit with the look of this new Megs perfectly.

I have to agree with this 100 percent.

I really can't say I liked any movie that Weaving was in.

The matrix was crap, his parts in Tolkien trilogy was lousy.

And V for Vendetta could have been a great movie, if it wasn't a totally political bash fest and that agonizingly annoying Nate Portman wasn't in it.
But honestly V for Vendetta was a overly blown up movie that sucked rotten eggs imho.
V was the best part, but it didn't save that p.o.s. of a movie.

Hugo Weaving as a voice actor for that junkion of a megatron, I can live with that.

I honestly don't think this bolsters the movie or makes it any better imho. This movie needs a lot more than a guy that's best known for saying "Mr.Anderson".

If that's the case then they should have gotten Tim Allen to play him, since he said "Nelson" a lot.

I understand the "waiting to see" opinion, but nothing I've seen is wanting or making wait for me to hold my opinion back that this movie is typical Hollywood crap.

As far as Kay and Chalk go, they both suck imho. If you watch every episode of the Unicron trilogy you will Chalk say at least once the line of "HUH!". Some will say it's the writers or what have you, but if someone is a great actor of any type, they wouldn't allow themselves to be diminished by horrible writing.

I've seen a lot of Chalk's work, and to be honest he has no range, his voices all sound the same.

And the only thing Kay can say is YESSSSSSSSSSS, which is so damn annoying.

Harrison Ford didn't let it happen in Star Wars.

I've seen a lot of Chalk's work, and to be honest he has no range, his voices all sound the same.

Actually, that is true with most of the characters he has done, but isn't that also true with Cullen. Most of the voices he does that are very similar is because it is his natural voice and the directors of the TF shows want him to continue using it; that doesn't necessarily mean he can't do other voices. Go watch "Stan Lee presents Mosaic".

Great. Mr. Weaving's voice is pretty cool. In regards to the voice range thing, in my opinion, if the only voice you do is awesome, you don't need a wide variety. Look at Keith David. I don't ever recall hearing his voice change at all, and his voice rocks.

This could be good news since Mr. Weaving has excellent voice control and he could make Megatron sound very interesting indeed.

An additional advantage is that the Weaving name could bring extra attention and extra movie-goers into the theatres, boosting the success of the movie.

Still, the G1er portion of me is a little sad...

what is wrong with you? okay, I'll agree some of the stuff cullen has done sounds similar, but seriously... i'll give you at least one example where you are wrong about cullen (although there are alot more too) ironhide and prime, both of which are distinctly different from each other.

Cullen also did several other voices in shows. Like Voltron, he was both the narrator and Coran in voltron that help the lion team out. But he portrayed a British accent of sorts with this character. Which sounded nothing like prime at all.

He was also the voice of Venger in the 80's dungeon and dragons series, and that voice sounded nothing like prime at all.

He also played Eeyore in the 2004 Winnie the Pooh movie, and as far as I can tell Prime doesn't sound like Eeyore. He went on to play Eeyore several times in fact.

He also played Monterey Jack in the Chip and Dale series. As far as I know Prime doesn't sound Australian either.

He was also in Ducktales playing both Bankjob Beagal and Admiral Grimitz, and yet again they sounded nothing like Prime.

So I'm not really seeing how all his voices sound the same.

And yes I mean that Welker shouldn't play this megatron.

Frank Welker is the obvious choice for Megatron's voice in the new movie. You can't tell me that everyone involved in this new movie was unaware of the uproar that was going to be caused when wind of this got out. They're prepared for it and they're ready to sate everyone's bitterness over this possible bad blow by telling you to "just wait and see it! You won't be disappointed!" The same thing they've been telling you since day one. OK...

I won't be breaking any new ground by citing that there is nothing anyone can do until they actually see this movie. Am I of the inclination to say that it's going to suck? Hell yeah. I can't stand anything I've seen so far. Not a single bit of it. However, for anyone who wants to stand with me and bitch about this new movie to our black little hearts' content, let's do this up right. Let's all go see this piece of crap FIRST. THEN, let the bitching commence. I'll be right there with you. Unless it doesn't suck for some reason, but with everything that's been happening with it so far, no amount of actions, explosions or digital effects are going to redeem what they've done with the franchise. FACE IT: This could be a GOBOTS movie... if they're going to mess with precursory canon that much, what's the effing difference?

On the subject of the voice though, who knows? Maybe Weaving is going to sound AWESOME as this incarnation of Megatron, have we even heard him yet? Eh, I said 20 years of G1 dedication. This new movie is not G1 no matter what anyone says. It is a new continuity with new characters that were never featured in G1 along with a completely new story. Just because it is a "modernized revamp" of the original Transformers doesn't make it G1... call it G3 if you have to call it anything at all, just don't call it G1.

Am I not happy with Cullen? This isn't the Optimus Prime that I grew up with, so I would have to say that it bothers me as much as having David Kaye voice Prime in Heroes. Which is not at all. I know what I like and anything that I think sucks or will suck... well, let's just say if I don't like something, then why would I care about some fan-choice voice actor not getting his fan service?

The post was in self-jest if nothing else. Do I think the movie will suck? YES. But I want to see it first so that I can back up my opinions 100%. Everyone's saying, "I know you don't like the designs, but TRUST US... go SEE IT FIRST... YOU WILL BE AMAZED!" I'm willing to give them the benefit of the doubt even though I think they are full of ****.

The point was that you can expect this type of message board outrage from Transformers to Firefly all the way down to My Little Pony in regards to the handling of a franchise. We know the old fandom is probably 80% in favor of this movie sucking and that 95% of n00b transnerds from the last 5-10 years will think that this movie will rock. (please, do not try to disprove those statistics, I will be the first to admit that I pulled them out of my ass). Again, this is BEFORE anyone has seen it. Really, who cares who is doing the voice acting? At the end of the day, is the movie going to be good or bad? Will the movie be good enough to redeem Weaving's voice acting or will Weaving's Megatron actually be better than Welker ever was? If they REALLY listened to the fandom, Welker would probably be voicing Megatron. He's NOT. So...
