IT's nice that the forums are up and running. I hope the lost data can be found as I was in the middle of a discussion on the City Commander set and was never able to read the last couple posts before the site went under.

Please be patient, and most of you are, about what info is fixed/found/rebooted first.

We have some issues to iron out.

Hi everyone,

The hard drive on the server crashed on Monday. I am working frantically to get everything back up and running. This has been a very frustrating ordeal this past week on top of a slew of personal problems that happened including my basement being flooded after the immense rainstorms came through Chicago this past weekend and having intermittent DSL connectivity at home. It's not been a fun past week. Please keep checking back. I am hoping to have the site up and running again tomorrow or Friday.

I'm still looking for a Linux guru who might be able to help with a system restore today (Saturday morning/afternoon - September 20th, 2008). fdisk was run on Thursday thanks to my server hosting company. Already ran TestDisk with no luck. If you have ideas about how to restore data after the partitions have been nuked, please contact Ryan at seibertron@gmail.com.

The database has been restored minus HMW and the Energon Pub forums. We lost a significant amount of data with those two areas. I am in the process of uploading images. It might take weeks or months to get all of the images back online UNLESS someone can help with a restore. If you're a Linux guru, please see the top paragraph. I am planning on launching the website in the next 24 hours with or without the images once the core images needed for the layout have been uploaded.

Not a tragedy?!?!?!? do you know how much time and effort I've put in on dem there votin' threads. What the point of going on? My life is without meaning.

Geez... That *is* a stroke of bad luck. I had no idea it was that catastrophic. I've heard of server failures before, but I think this is the first time I've ever heard of a hard drive failure on a server. (I know it can happen, just never on any of the boards I've been to, I don't think.) I can't even imagine the amount of lost and irreplaceable data.

I'm surprised we're up and running as is.

We got lucky this time, but could it be worse the next time?

I am sure Ryan is taking steps, if possible, to make sure that this does not happen again. But I am not sure it is something that you can prevent. NOt tech savvy enough to know.

Eh, considering how long this site has been around, this really wasn't that bad. Seeing as to how it's back up so "soon".

Methinks Seibs knows what he's doing. It'll be back to something that resembles normal around here in no time.

It could be a lot worse. I used to be a member on a forum that every so often would lose all it's membership data. Not having regular internet access in those days, I'd go back to find I needed to register again, and had no idea who anyone was. Gave up after that happened a couple of times.

Tigertracks: Yes, you'd think the Fantasy Battles forum would be the place for those voting threads. If people enjoy them, great (although I really don't understand their point), but they don't half clutter up TF General Discussion.
