That said he could easily be a Voyager if the wings are foldable enough to fit inside said box.

I don't see it happening because Hasbro would rather make $55 than $35 it's plain economics and the Company needs or wants to increase profits by 50% overall.

It will be a leader for sure, Hasbro confirmed it. People were just debating if he would have extra to make up for him being less of a leader than the others. But I don't see how he'd be less. Not only is he as tall as the others but he also has those wings. Who knows, that may surpass the leader price tag and be sold as next year's commander.

That's not all that works. It's all about parts counts and engineering.
Origin Bee could fit inside a Core class box but he's a deluxe.
SS86 Ironhide is the same size as Select DK-Guard, ER Ratchet, and ER Ironhide, yet he's a voyager.

And so on.

Since we're getting a G2 version of Grimlock, I wonder if we'll get Slag and Snarl as well. Also, Selects leader red Swoop?

Selects Red Swoop would scale better since the Veteran was a Maximal who had downsized over the years, instead of towering over the other Maximals and Predacons. ;)

I would not mind another red Swoop.

My Magnaboss has red Swoop as Ptero and a blue Swoop as the Veteran, but I'd like one individually, he can go good with Sandstorm.

I agree, proportionate wings are going to add to the amount of plastic used.
Because of the reasons I previously mentioned, I'm going to bet each wing has 3 hinge joints that will serve for both transformation and articulation. I'm also going to assume that these wing joints are held together by metal pins simply for stability.
I won't even mind if the smallest section of each wing is softer plastic, just as long as it's pinned and not going to fall/pop off just from moving it.

A couple things I'm anxious to see with Swoop--

1. Have they designed the shoulder and elbow joints so that the biceps and forearms can be pushed in towards the torso for the dino mode? The lower torso does taper towards the waist... It would be nice if the arms aren't just hanging out away from the torso, even if the arms can be collapsed and made shorter for dino mode.
2. The pterodactyl body isn't very stout. Meaning, even with the legs folded up and over the back, the legs and the bot torso combined still seem relatively trim...
But to pull off this look, the main torso would have to be pretty narrow from front to back. Which is going to look pretty odd when he's in bot mode.
While his lower legs aren't as big as the others', they also can't be that thin from frontside to backside... With his height being close to other 4, I don't want him to have skinny little stick legs.
All this to say it'll be interesting to see how they've sorted the dimensions/proportions so that the bot mode doesn't look anorexic, but the dino mode body doesn't look like a big, thick block.
Between the two I suppose I'd take a beefy pterodactyl over a malnourished-looking robot.

Yes, I know, there were many animation errors in many episodes... But most times the Dinobots all looked really close in stature.
I don't think the image below shows some huge mistake.
Compare Swoop's proportions to Snarl's.
Not just the height, but the sheer overall volume of the torso and the limbs.
This also reminds me that the wing missiles will require a decent amount of plastic... Those aren't exactly small accessories.
In fact, I won't be surprised if those are counted as weapons, especially since those should be detachable... Which makes a sword even less likely.

Unlikely. Besides the size difference, the transformation is also different. Only step they might have in common is the bird head tucking into the chest.

I'm just curious whether we'll get his launchers, or his sword or maybe neither, maybe get a pre-posed Chip Chase or something? 8-}

And weather we'll get a blue swoop or a red swoop to match the rest of the Dinobots.

SS86 is all about screen accuracy as with the others, so blue and launchers are virtually guaranteed.

Thank you, sir.
And thanks to Saborblade posting the animation model, you can see just how “mass shifted” the bot torso becomes in alt mode… The depth of the torso gets cut to 1/3 if not 1/4…
I think one of the only ways to remedy that look for the figure will be for the back to have large molded indentations for the legs to tab into.
That, or the dino torso is just going to make it look like Swoop has been over indulging in energon.

Also, even though they never showed it (as far as I can remember), the drawing that shows the whole torso splitting and separating to accommodate the beak for bot mode could actually be used for the figure design—
I saw another still from an episode that showed the bot arms just collapsed by the torso but not really tucked inward.
If they can create this expanding/collapsing torso for the figure, even if the arms can’t be pushed in, if the 2 torso halves can collapse toward one another, that would at least help the arms appear to not stick out as much.

There could be a bit more engineering involved with this guy than I initially thought…
Which again, makes any extra weapon or pack-in seem almost impossible.

Hey fans...does anyone have any POTP dinobots near by? I have searched on line but could find any images of Studio Grimlock paired next to any of those dinobots. I'm just curious how they size up in alt mode.

If anyone can share a couple of images that would be epic and my thanks in advance! :VEHI:

Out of ultimate thoroughness, I have taken side by sides in both modes of all the currently released ss86 leaders, potp voyager/deluxes, and evolution cores. Have lineups of the 2-3 versions of the same bot in each mode, group shots of all of them + potp swoop/snarl in each mode, and a bonus shot of the evo and potp volcanicus torsos next to each other.
