I will have to say that the Pretender Vehicles (and the Ultra Pretenders by extension) don't really give off the same "Pretender" vibe to me as the others do, because Transformers already change into vehicles and they aren't that big of a leap into the new.
Crossformers have more of that "Battle suit" thing going, something along the lines of Machine Robo Baikanfu or Yuusha King Exkizer, but their true smaller form is only seen after Great Shot damages their shells and they escape, so in a sense they do pretend to be something they're not.

Glad you guys brought this thread up, hopefully next week, my Waverider will have is axe and be complete, leaving only Roadgrabber as an incomplete pretender in my collection! I should just bite the bullet and buy on ebay, but I've been doing a lot of parts shopping in facebook pages lately and am holding out hope someone might have one yet

Hey D-Max! Isn’t accessories hunting a bit maddening? You love it and hate it, and yet, there’s nothing like a “complete” figure nowadays. I don’t have all my Pretenders that way, but if I do, it makes them just a little more special.....it must be the collector inside me. But you already know what I’m talkin’ about!

My first is still incomplete, if we’re counting official parts! But I adore his fugly face anyway.

Exactly. My next Grail to hunt is G1 Victory Deathsaurus.
At 300$ for the naked body alone, when the time comes I will fully commit for the 700$ complete one. Plus it will be so complete, it will have the box and papers too. This Grail deserve no less.

Grails definitely deserve to be complete. And yeah, I’m no longer doing piecemeal either — the completionist in me can’t handle it. And you honestly pay more parts-hunting.

I remember you mentioning that about Scorponok, Burn! That’s why I ended up getting him complete and paying the price for it. But he was a grail figure, after all.

I came thiiiis close to buy a nearly 400$ G1 Scorponock from my local store that had "only" this specific piece missing. So I paid 15$ more to buy it 100% complete and in great condition from Ebay instead. One of my best purchase ever.

The major problem with later year figures is finding them complete is hard. Earlier figures? Not so much because of the reissues.

Despite knowing better, I'm still going down the rabbit hole with Skyhammer (think I only need his gun and missiles though).

Good luck with the GPS. He have much more gold parts than Roadblock that can shatter at any moments (if they aren't already).

Also, it's chronicled somewhere in this thread but the pictures are surely lost. ---> I <--- was the one who broke the fist of my formerly PERFECT inner-inner bot of Roadblock by having a relapse in IQ. That was such a great idea to put the tiny gun in it's tiny golden hands.

It's all good.

Oddly enough, (and D-Max knows the story) I came across the inner shell during the unpacking and the inner robot was there as well. He had a small chip in one of his feet but was otherwise good.

Digging through another box a few months later ... another bloody inner shell! This one though had no damage to the inner robot.

Rest assured, he will be treated with care. I don't want a repeat of G1 Pyro crumbling to pieces in my hands.

Now that's what I can call lucky!

Made luckier by the fact both were in what was essentially junker boxes!

Just remembered ... one of the wheels is broken off the big outer shell, can easily glue it back on but even without it doesn't make a difference. Will have to get some photos of it this weekend.

Agreed that parts hunting is maddening, especially when it's the parts that are often more expensive to buy than the loose figure.
My Vroom is only missing the sidecar attachment, but trying to find one is tricky here on blighty shores.

For only 42k yen plus shipping, you can get yourself a basically brand new Pretender Skyhammer. Only the packaging seem to be "horribly damaged".

I paid just over 300 for my complete Scorponok — all was NM, except for the nub on his right claw (so he can’t hold his hand-cannon lol). But why wouldja shoot a bot when you could crush him with yer claws?!
