Transformers Studio Series General Discussion Thread
Re: Transformers Studio Series Discussion (New 2018 Movie Line)
Ugh, so many releases in studio series that come close to greatness but just fall short. For me, that's this guy because of the lack of shield and maybe a gun. That would have made him worth picking up. And also like a lot of SS, lack of paint is not doing this (great) mold justice.

Almost all of which goes to giving him red, because aside from the glazing he's cast entirely in black plastic.

IMO all existing copies of him should be recalled and destroyed, and HasTak can give it another go when they actually feel like trying when it comes to his plastic colors.
Even casting him in all red would have been better, because he's supposed to be primarily red with gray and black accents.

Yes. Hotlink, I couldn't judge as well because of what I was having to go off photo-wise. Sentinel on the other hand, I have seen clear, hi-res shots: the stock photos, and now the review as well. Every single red patch on him, obviously has black (or clear, in the case of his chest) plastic beneath it; you can tell from both the sheen of the red and how much black shows through Just look at this:TF-fan kev777 wrote:ZeldaTheSwordsman wrote:Oh, he has paint. More like a conflict between plastic colors, or which parts are cast in which color, and paint budget. If only one part changes color, others will have to follow suit, and that may cause issues in what parts have to be painted over.

Scrapper looks nice. Overload is a bit of a mess in vehicle mode with his half painted windows and the half black/red on top, worse still his mixmaster piece doesn't seem to be integrated well with devy in tontons video
kind of wondering if devy can have mixmaster truck cab as a head for a midtransformation/ gobot look.
Sentinels really noticably lacking paint in vehicle mode but robot mode looks really good but once again some hasbro employee making a fortune in their third party company to provide bits the figure should have.

I wouldn’t worry too much about Devastator right now, since TonTon tends to buy the prototype from some mysterious Hasbro employee that usually does not reflect the final product, as well as him having to spitball where everything goes during transformation since he doesn’t have instructions yet.

Is Overload part of Devastator? My Walmart just got Mixmaster and Scavenger in. My opinion of Bayverse Devastator is very low, but so far I've liked most of the Constructicons as individual bots. I never bothered to get them, because I figured their main purpose is to combine. However, Scavenger looks very good. I don't know if he's $50 good, but good indeed. I'm contemplating picking him up just to have him by himself on the RoTF shelf of my collection. Ironically, I think the original release of Mixmaster from 2009 looks better than this new version. Anyway, I have a bit of a conflict, because if I get Scavenger, I know I'm gonna want the rest of them, though my TF budget is being taken up by the Seacons and Scorponok for the foreseeable future, and again, I think RoTF Devastator looks like a turdpile. What to do, what to do...

Overload is part of devy, being the second leader Class release for him. If you like him for his bot mode, go for it. You don't have to combine if you don't want to

Yeah it's tempting because he's also a part of 1 of my favorite sequences from the movie. Is Scavenger also part of Devastator? He did die early in the movie. Is there a clone of him?
Also, I'm curious. With the release of Studio Series, and these figures being generally superior to the previous movieverse releases (RoTF leader Prime being the exception), do you guys display SS by themselves in your collection, or do they get integrated with the other movie figures?

Which means we are almost certain to get a Demolisher repaint out of Scavenger somewhere in the future.

Yes. You can clearly see his altmode amongst the construction vehicles driving up in the quarry for the combination, and he's where a lot of the mass comes from.Rodimus Prime wrote:Yeah it's tempting because he's also a part of 1 of my favorite sequences from the movie. Rodimus Prime wrote:He did die early in the movie.
It was Demolishor who died early in the movie. Demolishor's excavator mode is white in the movie (hence the premium "Shanghai Demolishor" set), although he still has a red noggin.
The ROTF Constructicons appear to be "mass-produced body type" characters, with some types (Long Haul, Mixmaster, Scrapper, and Rampage) having at least two present in the final battle - some as part of Devastator, others acting as individual footsoldiers.
I've mostly skipped SS since I prefer the old scale. I've only bought one Studio Series figure, Blackout, since he was bigger and better than the 2007 mold. The only other figures I have are Rampage (Christmas gift from my aunt) and SS05 Optimus (quirk of Hasbro's replacement system).Rodimus Prime wrote:Also, I'm curious. Also, IMO ROTF Leader Optimus isn't the only exception.

I keep them separate for the most part primarily due to scaling, the exceptions being TLK Berserker which has been repainted into Crankcase and Evac from Transformers the Ride because I really like the character. DOTM Topspin works pretty well too but I keep mine in vehicle mode since I lost its head.
Talking about SS compared to previous figures, the only case I can think of where I think the original figure was better is possibly the upcoming Topspin. We’ll have to see though! I also haven’t owned any previous Sentinels except for the Cyberverse one (or the SS one yet), so I cant comment on that.
Talking about ROTF Leader Prime, I feel like a more fair comparison between SS Prime and a previous figure would be battle blades prime. While battle blades prime does have the better vehicle mode, I think I’d give every other category to SS Prime. Robot mode accuracy, transformation, fun, poseability, stability, all of that.

IMO Battle Blades Optimus takes the robot mode accuracy prize due to his transformation scheme putting the wheels in the right place in both modes. While at a local Walmart doing a resupply run, cant help but check the shelves for any new Transformers and snagged 57- Offroad Bumblebee, 58- Roadbuster, and 59 Shatter. Not a bad trip, got the essentials plus a bonus with these three.

UPDATE
I just wanted to add one photo for comparison between Shockwave and Roadbuster.
In regards to Offroad Bumblebee, I love his Jeep mode, but I’m partial to military like vehicles.

To answer your questions Rodimus convoy:
Devastator and the Constructicons: There has not been a bad constructicon toy yet. The 2 deluxes are very fun for their size. Rampage is a wonderful jackhammer of evil. Long Haul is probably the weakest, but is by no means a bad toy at all. Mixmaster is incredibly fun, and while some think he doesn't look as good as his original self, everyone agrees they can actually transform him this time and enjoy him. Scavenger is a great leader, and is probably the best figure of the Leader class to come out in a few years, he is that good, solid, and well painted. Overload and Scrapper will complete him.
You can get a few constructicons to have by themselves, you can buy all 8 and form Devy (or 9 with Skipjack and have him and Rampage swap), and you can buy all of them to display separately. They work in any of the modes you put them in and in any number that you desire. Though you might have a hard time with the first 4 to come out back tracking.
As for the other question, I am not a scale nazi, so my SS figures are meshed with the rest of my movie collection (which is currently coming back out of boxes as we speak). I find that DotM on really works well with the SS scale wise though.

There seems to be an abundance of the last Voyager wave here in the North, tons and tons of Movie 1 Megs and good ol Mixmaster. I decided to relieve them of a Megatron and by God is he great. I was really nervous the lower legs being so chunky would ruin it for me but in person, doesn't hinder the toy at all. In fact he poses really quite well, thanks to the heel being on a hinge for transformation its possible to keep both his feet firmly on the ground in most poses!
Also it seems that I now officially own every single movie 1 Decpticon in some form

That movie 1 Megatron toy is really good, it is a shining example of a new toy overcoming the limitations of the first. I love it!
I'm looking for parts, Help Me Out Please!

So PrimeVSPrime released a video review of Overload, and his copy has painted windows for the truck mode...
So this confirms that TonTon probably gets these figures...illegally? As his had unpainted windows, so it was clearly pre-production. Or there are variations on the figure, which I hope there aren't.
I don't get how these guys are getting him though, he isn't due out till somewhere between August-October I thought?
