Normally I agree with most of what you say, but not on this point. It's clear from watching that video that they are red with silver bodies and red highlights prior to the light going on and after. What you're commenting on is dramatic effect. All you have to do is look at their silver bodies, that aren't colored in red when the lights go on, to realize that the effect you are talking about is inaccurate otherwise they'd be red entirely if it was from the red lights.

That is exactly what I was trying to say, thanks for helping me express it more clearly big boss!

No white light, red light from below makes them look entirely red.

agenda-tripredacus-council1.jpg

White light shines on them, silver bodies with red head and other parts. The white light shining on them is their true color scheme. C'mon man, you're into photography and all that! You know how the lighting works. The white light overpowers the red light because it is a much brighter light source, which you commented on in the photography skills topic.

I think your lights are too far away from your source. If the overhead light stays on during the shot, then your primary source of light is the overhead lighting and the sides are doing close to nothing.

You need to more setup like this:

TF_JW wrote:My personal interpretation of the scene is that the trick of the light/light source cheat is actually the part where they appear solid gray. More than likely the animators wanted to make their reveal a little more dramatic and therefore cut the saturation to nil so that the characters could blend in with the shadows more. This is done quite a lot in live-action filming when a scene is shot in the day time but then edited to look like night time - the saturation is cut and a blue filter applied.

Then when the lamps are activated we get bright red characters against a blue backdrop. Very contrast-y, very dramatic.

I'm impressed, guys. I really haven't anything to contribute to the red vs. gray subject since all I could say has already been said by Ryan, Will, Jesse, and any others in red camp. :APPLAUSE: :APPLAUSE: :APPLAUSE:

All I can say is, they appeared red in the show for longer than they appeared as any other color in that scene, I remember them being red with silver robes more than any other color back when I first saw them on TV as a kid, have wanted figures of those three red guys I saw in the show back then ever since, and am now glad to finally be getting the closest approximations of those red guys in toy form that we've ever had. :D

I have to say, it's encouraging that all this debate about being "Show Accurate" in color is starting to reinforce the idea that this is Wings Universe (where Animation Accuracy matters) and not Uprising Universe (where Animation Accuracy does not matter).

Still, it'd be nice to get confirmation on that. Hopefully we don't have to wait until the brochure goes up to find that out.

Could also be the original 3H/Fun Pub Beast Era universe that contains just the two cartoons plus all of the 3H fiction (minus "Shell Game"), "Dawn of Future's Past", "Theft of the Golden Disk", and "The Razor's Edge".

All this red vs grey talk is exhausting. Someone find me a showrunner or animator or something from Beast Wars to settle the matter. Hell, let Garry Chalk decide. I don't care anymore. I'm gonna go home in an hour, have a pint, open up Takara Legends Blackarachnia, and just wait for this to all blow over.

Please dont look at the podcast questions thread then!

Also, I am surprised no one brought this up but earlier we were saying how dull a figure mostly silver and grey would be and, well, this guy doesnt look dull:

I was gonna let it go. Not say anything else. But curiosity got the better of me.

First, our Australian friends at Ozformers already had this debate 21 months ago or so, and this thread even has a sampling from the script that still leaves it vague: http://www.otca.com.au/boards/showthread.php?t=17778

Also interesting is it appears they knew this was the plan (or at least one user there did) already at this point. See page 2. :-?

The December 1998 TV Magazine included a Kabaya kit called the Tripredacus change kit, or something. Red and grey (image from Dave's Beast Wars Transformers)
Image

Better image from a Japanese blog:
Image

Beast Wars the Gathering did both all grey and red/grey from the looks of it. One red/grey is fine by me. (edit: apparently this is actually from the Botcon 2005 comic. Eh, ok then, we'll go with "Funpub being consistent" as the argument for this image then?)
Image

And without even putting in pics because whatever man, Takara's Gimlet and Motorarm releases were primarily red and had some red and grey respectively so screw it, you can call them sort-of homages to them if you wanted.

Red and grey's fine. The vagaries of a small rushed scene in a 90's CGI show don't bug me. If they did, this still is enough to sway me into being ok with it:
Image

Only issue I ever had with coloring really comes down to Tarantulas screwing up the uniformity as I see it currently, but I'll take TF_JW's word that the combiner makes it not stand out so bad for now and sit back.

http://tfwiki.net/wiki/Transformers:_Wings_Universe
Not "The Razor's Edge". That's a notable distinction between the two.

The Wings Universe, Primax 509.28 Epsilon, contains most of the same events as the 3H Beast Era, Primax 797.18 Epsilon, but not all of them. The aforementioned "The Razor's Edge", for instance, is overidden by "A Common Foe" in the Wings Universe by its placing the signing of the Pax Cybertronia before the Great Upgrade and without the Tripredacus Council involved in the signing, while "The Razor's Edge" places the signing after the Great Upgrade and does involve the Council in the signing.

And the personal logs of Apelinq that were posted on Tornado's Facebook last year note how the Wings Universe version of Apelinq was having visions of another universe's version of himself partaking in events that he either never experienced or experienced differently. That other version of him being the 3H Beast Era Apelinq, which means the Wings Universe's Beast Era didn't quite experience Point Omega to the exact letter as it occurred in the 3H fiction.

So the two have a lot of similarities, so much so that certain stories do occur in both universes in exactly the same ways, but the two universe aren't entirely identical in every regard.

Since I never said anything about the colors I will say this: A figure can be 95% the same color as long as the remaining 5% is distributed properly to break up that solid color. It all counts on location. These guys have lots of paint work that are almost perfectly distributed to break up that color. Same with this Megs. Therefore, works for me :BOT:

Yep. Like the chase Micromaster Collection combiners: mostly the same color everywhere, but with enough to break it up that they just look classy.

The Kabaya kit is technically Beast Wars II Tripledacus, the mariachi Maximal Jointron combiner.

But it's a hilarious coincidence that it ended up being red and gray.

I dunno. I wish he had been made from Firefly, but I really can't see him working from the Powerglide mold without a new head, as his mouthplated Batman head is part of his known look. I just don't see them giving a new head to a Legends mold.

And even if they did, it'd also need to serve as the nosecone of the jet mode, so it probably wouldn't wind up looking right anyhow.

With some of Tarantulas's colors integrated to make all five components look good together.
