Bludgeon was one of the best figures of 2010, one of the best designed not-in-the-movie movie characters, one of the best homages ever made, and a marvel in Transformers engineering. So, $5? Well, can't expect much when your favorite toy is something that hasn't even been released yet.

IMHO,The head sculpt & colors for botcon 2012 gigatron looks like 1986 animated galvatron's. so since hasbro refuses to give us a new mold voyager galvatron toy,we can all pretend this 2012 botcon gigatron is galvatron.

Because he isn't really a Movieverse chracter, the toy was originally designed to be Classics Bludgeon for Universe.
Also Que's head looks more like a skull than Bludgeon's.

Thats why this is being released in Botcon and not the mainline. Its kinda just a sovinear to remember Botcon. Its like having a limited repaint of a figure for the novelty.

Yes, its kinda pricy, but that's what separates the "elite" TF fans from the rest. This is probably by no means a classics overlord, just a stand-in.

Ya know... upon looking at the figure a little closer... Wouldn't that be a damn-near perfect rendition for Shattered Glass Bludgeon?

Doesn't change my position on the bad figure choice... but switch the faction symbols and you'd have an honorable and heroic samurai doppelganger.

Then the BotCon sets in general are not for you. All of the BotCon sets are "repaints"* and you can usually buy the original mold for less.

*'Repaint' is in quotes because this is not really a straight repaint since it has a different head sculpt.

The way I see it, it's an interesting take on a rather obscure character. Makes me curious about his backstory and what lead to the choice of the RotF Bludgeon mold, given these limits:

- no larger than the current Voyager scale
- no Unicron Trilogy molds
- no licensed movie molds
- no molds used in previous sets

And since Gigatron has to be a tank (a jet is less than impressive for an overlord, and we already have a jet for his counterpart Metalhawk) there's no real choice...

- Classics Megatron (sucks)
- Universe Galvatron (sucks)
- Generations Darkmount
- Generations Warpath (Treadshot candidate)
- RotF Voyager Bludgeon

Seriously, why are people blaming Hasbro for the BotCon and TFCC exclusives?

Fun Publications thinks them up and produces them, they just buy a licence from Hasbro for the mold and name, that's all Hasbro has to do in this.

Also, the more I look at that head the more I hate it, it's almost as fugly as the Decent into evil Ironhide head.

I think it's more like they hate the obligation of buying such an expensive item to complete their collection. It's official after all and will be highly sought after.

Nah, I think he'll be the head remold of Scourge.

Really, I'm fine with this. At least the tank looks nice, minus the red and purple guns. An Overlord is an Overlord. The robot is a little odd. I would've changed the swords into guns, like Generations Blurr did.

Tank mode: 8.7/10
Robot mode: 5.1/10

They're the group who runs BotCon (since 2005) and creates the exclusive figures for each convention.

Plain and simple, they are the true minds behind BotCon and the OTFCC, like 3H Enterprises before them. They hold the required licenses, acknowledging Hasbro's approval, and are the designers behind the events and toys, down to the new head molds which are used only once.

Hasbro hardly has any experience in organizing fan events like BotCon, so they outsource it and supply (read "rent out") the needed materials, like the molds. That's part of the reason why the Club and BotCon toys are so expensive.

And I find it so amazing that so much negative input stems from plain simple ignorance...

You're also obligated to own this thing if you just want the rest of the set, and although I'm sure anyone will be able to resell theirs for more, it's still a hassle, and we could've had a better figure in place of this.

I think the mold choice is about the best they could do for the character, but the problem lies more with the character choice. The problem is they're aiming too high with a character like Overlord, and they should be looking more to what they can do best with what they've got.
