Ok, first of all, I'm staying away from the whole American car vs. imports thing, and anything to do with anyone's nationality.
There are a lot of people who are really missing the point about this truck (calling it a wasteful, gaz guzzling, environment destroying redneck mobile, etc). This is classified as a medium duty truck, and it is intended to pull very heavy things. The only reason that it isn't a requirement to have a CDL to drive one is because they keep the towing capacity under 26,000 pounds(!). GM has been making Kodiaks and Topkicks (and Ford has been making F450, 550, and 650 Super Duties) since long before the Transformers movie came out, and they will still be making them long after it is forgotten. Yes, the fuel economy is horrible. I honestly don't know why a gasoline engine is even offered (a diesel would probably get at least 12 mpg). And the price? Have you checked the price of a Hummer H2 or Cadillac Escalade lately? Or the fuel economy as compared to a Topkick with a diesel engine? At least the Topkick can pull 8 tons while being expensive and burning lots of fuel. Also, trucks like these will still be out there working long after almost all of the Escalades and Hummers have been taken to junkyards, crushed and forgotten.
We should all be flattered that Monroe Truck equipment would even consider building something like this, even if most of us can't afford it and/or have no need of it's capabilities. I would buy one of these in a second if I owned a business and needed to tow 5+ tons on a regular basis. There have to be some Transformers fans out there who own businesses and would have a use for something like an Ironhide edition GMC Topkick. I hope at least one of them lives near me, so I can see Ironhide driving down the road.
