Plus they literally just released a new version of him. To be fair they did the same with Blurr and he's in this set, but we do get Hot Rod's old mold in the Planet of Junk set with the Junkions anyway.
My point was that, for a set called "Autobot Heroes" that celebrates the movie, the movie's main Autobot hero is omitted from this set and relegated to other ones instead.

And now that I think about it further, one of those other sets he's in is based on a fight scene from the movie that he wasn't in until after said scene's fight was over.

True, but this is based on the movie's poster. Better to call it 'Autobot Heroes' than... 'Autobots That Were On That Cool Poster You Liked'

I know what it's based on. The title just makes its lack of Hot Rod more ironic than it probably intended.

Hasbro has repeatedly said that they are not being influenced by 3rd parties. I think people arent seeing this the right way. there are not that many well known G1 characters left so as Hasbro keeps making toys, the amount of characters only available through 3p companies slowly dwindles. Look at the combiners, the 3p companies got to them first but eventually, hasbro got to them as well since they were well known characters they had not done yet. I share your disappointment. We've recently gotten MP and non-MP updates to Hot Rod. Maybe we'll get the update to Rodimus Prime after TR?

I just want a toy of the IDW version. At least TR/MP Hot Rod still looks like G1 Rodimus because, well, they had the exact same character model. Just one was a slightly different colour and had lines on his face.

Okay, now that we can see it in good lighting, the blue is definitely a few shades lighter than on the Amazon version, but that seems to be the extent of the differences, new packaging aside.

Very quick and rough comparison.

At most they're using different shades of paint. The applications, it seems, are the exact same (aside from the eyes which are red instead of green unless I'm looking at the light-up feature wrong)

But that's an old stock photo on the right. The real toy didn't fully look like that.

Might be beating a dead horse here but, you think we'll ever get a new unicron mold? Like, a BIG one? Because as much as I like the Armada Unicron's overall look...I feel he needs an update already. And with Has/Tak's capacity to heavily retool existing molds into other characters (Optimus/Magnus, Metroplex/Fort Max) I can easily see them getting a Primus out of a potential Unicron mold.

i would like to see a new planetformer mold. The titan class has given us potential, and i wish they would take advantage of it!

The hand is not solid as speculated. And his eyes are in fact not green. I was going to pay whatever premium I had to to get this bugger, now I don't even know if I'd grab him if I found him locally. That Movielicious box is about the only reason I'm still interested.

I think it's great that it is a bit closer to the Amazon exclusive release so it gives the people who didn't get the figure an opportunity to get Unicron. So I definitely want to try to get it on account of that, but if I already had the Amazon release I most likely wouldn't bother with getting this one. Packaging art though kicks a lot of butt however.
