You'll be talking about Takara not Hb. Remember the TFC series where Starscream came in anime colors and came with a Megatron gun?

Or Convoy with an energon ax

Or megs with his mace/morning star thingie...........

Kind of frustrating too that instead of releasing the G1 colored G1 Astrotrain, they released a, well I don't kow what colr the last Platinum was based upon.........Landcross or the Duocons. :BOOM:

Titanium Rodimus Vs Universe Galvatron
Two Sweeps (one with Devcon's head) and a Universe Cyclonus repaint

Apeface & Chromedome that seemingly are only exists as small Titanmaster vehicle sets. Or if not they are going to sell you the heads twice anyway.

Hasbro you make it rather difficult for someone wanting to support your actions you know.

• Rodimus Prime vs. Galvatron set – uses the Titanium Rodimus Prime and Universe Galvatron molds
• Another set with two Sweeps (one apparently using the Botcon Devcon head) and the Universe Cyclonus mold

But wasn't that devcon headsculpt reviled for being poorly molded?

The obvious "Celebration" of the 1986 Movie already exists it's the relevant Masterpiece toys - the annoying thing is the sort of prices charged for Platinum toys is more like the sort of prices one might expect for Masterpiece - Masterpieces Hasbro only rarely provides - and when they do add MP's to the Platinum line they are as often as not in colours that make you raise an eyebrow.

I hope they have enough sense to be providing Masterpieces by the end of 2016 like Hot Rod & or Ultra Magnus, because if they don't someone like Wei Jian will have Knocked them off for a fraction of the price before to long.

Chopshop and his wavemates would be very smart purchases since those are some of the few figures that will never ever be reissued.

Why? Does another company own the rights to the molds? Or are the molds 'lost'?

They look pretty cool, might have to wait to get them though, love my cw chopshop (who happens to be wielding gen targetmaster chopshop :-P ) he's pretty amazing, way better than legends skrapnel

They might step on the toes of Beetras rights a bit. But I can't see a reason they can't be made along with the Beetras toys as has been happening with Mugan Caliber and Roadbuster releases in Japan.

I've long been pleading for the Beetras LadyBird (LadyBug) to be made into a female Insecticon for example.

Perhaps one day Fansprojects might get around to doing her when they do a version of venom too. or one of these companies that is selling Insections might move on to a version of the Deluxe Insecticons and include her too.

She'd be a nice thing to have in a the Beast Wars Anniversary year too - whoever makes her.

Hasbro would LOVE to sell you these again!

But for $75, not $20. Totally worth it with a premium paint job though right?

Also, they're in the box that way because they're being centered on the trays. If they were doing what you say they are then Optimus would be lower on the tray, but instead he's now up higher than Megatron. Megatron's wings cause him to take the entire height of the box. And really, the difference in size between the two isn't so much that Hasbro would try to correct it this way.

As for the rumors about the next set featuring Titanium Rodimus Prime and Universe Galvatron, don't forget some of the crazy rumors we got for CW Devastator at this time last year. Titanium Rodimus isn't a terrible figure if you can overlook the lack of a neck ball joint and him being a robot donut. He is pretty big to go with that Galvatron, though. At least the Rodimus figure now has a reason to look down.

i still have Megs from that set! Unfortunately my Optimus broke in half....around about the middle....where he spins round & round! so i had to chuck it out as it was beyond repair! + kinda annoying that Op was with the gimmicky spinny round thing! coz it wouldn't lock into place properly.....from having it constantly wanting to twist round all the time.

I love how much I can agree and disagree with you within the same post  That's what makes the board go round I guess!

All of the things you mentioned were great for different reasons, though I do agree that an "Anime Astrotrain" release in that Platinum set would have been more satisfying for Hasbro's global market. The e-hobby one wasn't easy to track down when it was new. That said, I still like my wacky color triple changer set just on the grounds of it at least being something different.

And those TFC reissues you mention are just fantastic. I still need to get that Optimus sometime. The Megatron and Starscream are probably the definitive G1 mold variations of those characters for me.

Agree to disagree  But really now.....who the F#CK makes such stooopid decisions in Hb? Already accepted that the Platinum line is like in inflated Platinum prices. Who can afford Platinum prices? Well not the kids but the kids at heart who have cash to burn.

Yet some corporate slug decides to release them in quirky none original colors.....ehem, Laser Prime( gold puke colors  )........who is like shelf warming in TRU. You want to have stocks moving, at least tug on the nostalgia and release the item in original colors.

Astrotrain too (sorry Scotty :-P ) the color is a monstrosity :HEADHURTS: . In my neck of the woods, the set is shelfwarming. But nowhere to be seen are the Platinum coneheads (release in near G1 perfection.......except for the decals).

The G1 deluxe insecticon molds (chopshop and friends) are not owned by Hasbro or Takara and hence have much less of a chance of getting reissued. So as the yeas go by and Hasbro or Takara keep reissuing figures, these proably wont come up and thus the only to have them as part of your collection will be to get the originals. The are not too expensive right now so I would say go for it if you like em.

So let me get this straight, you would rather have Titanium Rodimus over G1 Hot Rod and Universe Galvatron over a purple G1 Galvatron?
If both were an option, the same price and where my collection is currently at; I'd choose the newer molds.

If I ever start collection G1, then I may change my mind. I tend to get a warm and fuzzy feeling of nostalgia from the G1 reissues, but they just don't have a home in my collection.

The platinum sets do seem to be all over the place lately.

I understand that some would want the more recent molds. But then you dont need this platinum set to make that happen. They can be bought now for probably less than this set would cost:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/RODIMUS-PRIME-Ha ... SwqYBWpvHD

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Transformers-Hen ... SwFqJWpqg1

And you could find them at convetions loose and complete for decent prices.

The G1s on the other hand are not that easy or cheap to get complete. Especially not a cartoon deco G1 Galvatron toy.

Here si what the latest sold for. Way more than any combination of previous sold prices for the 2 figures making up this set:

http://www.ebay.ca/itm/Transformers-D-6 ... SwGotWhwOY

Pretty much, this platinum set could help people get molds and versions of molds that are really hard to get and cost a lot. But instead we get toys we can find right now and which will probably cost more.

Thats my main point.

Somehow, Ags got these guys in hand....well, not exactly. I have a bunch of Titaniums and was able to snap a pic of Titanium Roddy with my Universe Galvy. :-D

Image

Roddy isn't too much bigger, maybe half a head. I like the Titanium Roddy for his clever transformation, looking like a Cybertronian Winnebago, without parts-forming. Too bad the bot mode leaves something to be desired. Although, really, directly from the front it isn't too bad... :-?

If the rumor of using Titanium Rodimus is true (or I guess that's a report and not a rumor?), wow. That's a thing no one needs more of. It's not actually all that terrible of a toy, it's just from a time gone by that doesn't need revisiting. I also think using the G1 molds for a Rodimus Prime v. Galvatron set would give more options for creativity. RP has never been redecoed, only reissued, so anything at all new there would be neat to see. This could have been an opportunity to get the purple cartoon colored Galvatron out over here. Guess the G1 reissue sets must have done poorly overall (outside of a perceived limited success with Blaster/Perceptor), given that train seems to have left the station for awhile.

They sold out at BBTS. Most platinums at least stick around for a year, that one didnt.

You guys did a pretty good job on the podcast of analysing how it was the reverse of that and how those sets did well overall. I wouldnt call selling out of a high end collectable nation wide at the exclusive retailer in less than half a year to be a limited success. I bet you TRU would have loved to have those same results with the previous G1 reissues as Target did with Blaster/Perceptor.

What I think is happening is that we are just seeing how toy releases take time to plan out once a company has sales feedback. Hasbro took a gamble reissuing G1, something even Takara stopped doing. There are more collectors now than before due to more grown up kids getting disposable income and the movies bringing the Transformers Brand to the forefront of pop culture. So it was the right time for Hasbro to try this again, but of course they would take it a step at a time. So they had several different toy eras planned out for the platinum line, including G1. The G1 stuff did well (as noticed by several retailers selling out) but before we see the positive repercussions of that, we need to suffer through the rest of the scheduled stuff while Hasbro plans out the rest of the G1 toys to release.

In the most recent google hangout, Hasbro did not rule out more G1 reissues (probably as a result of the positive feedback they got from them).

Very good point! Doesn't make me any happier about another Titanium Rodimus Prime release, but that's unrelated now isn't it?

Oh we are on the very same page. Unrelated but still depressing. What I find really sad is that pairing. It doesnt add anything to any collector's lives. There's a classics rodimus in another platinum set and we are getting a better scaled Galvatron with the proper alt mode the same year this platinum set is sold. At least with G1, you are reaching a different aspect of the market, the nostalgia of the actual original toys.

Someone with a decent Galvatron figure (which is what I hope the TR one is)probably doesnt need a Univere Galvatron anymore. But they could probably still be interested in a G1 galvatron toy simply for nostalgia's sake or for another aspect of their collection (collecting G1 toys, or original versions of characters).

Then again I am noicing a trend with these 2016 platinum sets. They want to rerelease the most recent molds of the season 3 bots, especially that decepticon trio (albeit in a different deco).

I would have jumped at the chance of getting a G1 Galvatron, even if it meant owning another G1 Hot Rod. AND, I would still buy the TR Galvatron.

I would also love to own a G1 Galvatron (purple or not). That toy is very hard to get complete and unbroken due to the fragile cannon. I see cannonless Galvys all the time at cons and I see no point to getting one, regardless of how cheap it is. Galvatron's gotta have that nice big translucent cannon and I was hoping this would finally be my chance to get one!
