I've never even seen a Transformer on sale here, the only Platinum that seems to stick around here is the Insecticon set.

But most of these platinums were online only in the states (the target exclusive ones for instance), so you wouldnt see them in stores anyway. If there was a discount, it happened online.

Re: 2016 Generations Platinum sets
Crazy idea for a Platinum set for next year:
Nightbird (A Hasbro deco of the Takara figure)
Devcon (Titans Return Blurr's head on Titans Return Scourge's Body)
Alligatorcon (Sentinel Prime's Head on TR Skullcruncher's body in Optimus Colors)
That's a Japan-only release, a former Botcon and G1 cartoon character with his first Hasbro figure release, and a G1 cartoon version of Prime that only 3rd parties have done to date. Two out of three have a mad science vibe.
Hrm. You know, instead of Devcon, what would round out the set would be an Autobot Spike with Spike Headmaster. I want that now. Not sure what it would be made from but I want it.

What the heck would he transform into? A van with a fire truck ladder and prowl doors?

Yup, this is what it goes for now http://www.ebay.com/itm/TRANSFORMERS-4- ... SwHPlWb3WC
I think it was about 45$ at toysrus. A great deal for some solid decos. Of course you would be stuck with a movie figure, but it was the best figure of that line.

I'll see if I can pick it up. And, for the record, I don't mind the movie figures, so I wouldn't be 'stuck' with it. But anyway, thanks for the tip.

No worries. Oh and if you dont mind loose toys, I am sure you can find a way better price for the set loose.

Yeah, that'd probably be the better idea since I'd tear it out of the box anyway. Alright, I'll see what I can find.

Hmmmmm... I want that Megatron but I don't really like that Optimus. $80 isn't too bad but I'd prefer $50 or $60 for the set. I'll have to wait for a sale.
Shhhhhhh... I was never here. You never got anything from me.

I was so lucky with that set. Here in the UK it was incredibly discounted to £20 at TRU - which is just under the price of a Combiner Wars Voyager. So I basically got a slightly discounted Classics Optimus and a free representation of some psychopath that looks a bit like him

I don't have the Megatron mold, got the OP mold from the AOE 2-pack. For that price, I'd rather get Hegemon.

I'd personally rather wait for the TR Voyager because that looks like the best CHUG Megatron we've ever gotten, and miles ahead of nerfatron no matter how nice that deco might be.

Ok, I've really got to learn more about this frustration free packaging. Is it just wrapped in something and no box? Are there no tie-downs? What makes it $20-worth of cheaper?

I am curious too, Canada doesnt have this option for some reason.

They were amazing repaints. The AOE Voyager had the actual correct deco of what movie Optimus would have looked like when painted and the Classics one had the perfect G1 deco that only the Cloud Optimus surpasses.
Check these awesome repaints:
The Optimus that comes in the evolution set is on the right in this photo:

Agreed on the Evolution Primes. Those rock. But I'd say Cloud and Evo Classics Primes are trying to achieve different things. Cloud is toon accurate while Evo is toy accurate.

Exactly, though even with the toy accuracy angle, the Evolution set took several liberties, including gray upper arms, black shins, and black fists. The Cloud version gets these toy details right, with red upper arms, blue shins, and blue fists, even though it's actual aim is to be screen accurate to the G1 cartoon.
