Secondary market prices are very reasonable for the majority of Unicron Trilogy toys. It's only the classics line that can get expensive, the rest is not bad at all and can cost the same or less than retail when purchased loose. What I meant to say is you can still get all those weighty toys now for a similar price you would have paid then (considering inflation).

Yeah I might work once in a while.

I want to get the Platinum Planet of Junk Clash set maybe eventually, but I'm having a hard time justifying the price. Hopefully I can get it for less. I also think it would be cool to get the Platinum G1 Insecticons partially to get the energon cubes for Hot Rod to offer to the Junkions.

I hear you, Target does these deals sometimes, like 20% off coupons when you spend over a certain amount. And thats how you could get this for cheaper. Thats what happened with the Blaster/Perceptor set last year. Also, keep a lookout on this listing: http://www.toysrus.ca/product/index.jsp ... d=80992896

Its in canada and if ever it's at a price you want, I can act as an intermidiary and ship it to you.

*sigh* I feel though that I can get a Masterpiece with that same amount of money or even less. I guess with a deal like that it wouldn't be too bad, but yeah. I guess it's just one of those "value is perceived in the eye of the beholder" things. I just want my next TF purchase around July to have something really off the wall and unique like a Platinum set. I don't really like some of the clear plastics that some of these use though. YotG Soundwave is kinda an exception though.

It's precisely that. For the same price, you can have these 3 deluxes or MP Hotrodimus shipped from HLJ http://hlj.com/product/TKT84468/Act

Between the two what gives you more bang for your buck? I dont know.

PS: The answer is MP Wheeljack :-$

Yeah I am kinda deciding to wait before getting MP Hot Rodimus, because I would prefer a voyager one from Titans Return with a g1 accurate trailer in vehicle mode. Also, the smooth style of MP HR doesn't really fit with the overly-detailed molding on the TR figures.

Around my B-day is when I like to get sets and figures that are off-the-wall, nostalgic, and/or goofy. :-P Platinum sets are pretty much just that. I was wanting Platinum Supreme mode Starscream last year but couldn't get him in time before he sold out on ToysRUs.

Hmm I am now highly wanting that Hasbro Platinum reissue of G1 Predaking. Amazon has him for about 90 USD as a Prime item. Hope I can get him soon enough. It'd be my first G1 reissue set.

If Amazon no longer has him, you can always get him at BBTS. And like Cobotron, I fully back this choice of yours. He is an awesome toy and a great toy to have from the G1 era. And he retains all the charm from that era along with its badassery.

Thanks bro! I have never tried BBTS yet, so that would be interesting. :-P

Sometimes, nostalgia outweighs updated design when it comes to Transformers. If I can only get one G1 set, I want Predaking. I love Divebomb. He just looks especially awesome for a g1 figure.

Smart man. ANd I can confirm that divebomb is awesome but the one who really impressed me was Rampage. He is a great looking bot. And its really cool that each one of those is a voyager class figure in size.

It's really a matter of opinion. In mine, it's a cool set with good play value, but the price is a bit much.

Yeah Rampage is actually my second favorite. Divebomb just has an amazing bird mode though. :-P

Yes I LOVE how they're about voyager size. I saw this image on TFW2005:

Image

Also, these guys actually have awesome articulation for g1 figures. ESPECIALLY Divebomb and Rampage! :D Some of them even have knee joints! THIS seems to really be one of those G1 sets that completely disproves the statement that 1-step and 3-step changers are the new G1 figures. These Predacon guys are so awesome they even still have the diecast in them. He's just one of those rare g1 combiners that don't need an upgrade set to look awesome. I sometimes have seen pictures of this guy in the past as Predaking, and mistook him for a second as a 3rd party figure. He just looks that good.

Fair warning, the articulation is not the best. The one with the most articulated arms is actually Tantrum (on that picture above). While tantrum and Headstrong look a little silly in robot mode, they look amazing in beast mode and havent been beaten by any 3p company yet in that department.

Image

As for g1 figures that dont need an upgrade it seems Skylynx is the definite winner with the recent upgrade turning out to be underwhelming in terms of the actual Skylynx components (the torso mode is quite nice though).

You might get a kick out of this silly, here are some pics of G1 Skylnx with Platinum Predaking, dont they look awesome?!

Yeah I know the articulation is not the best. I am fairly farmiliar with those guys. However, as G1 figures, their articulation is actually not that bad for a few of them.

Also, Sky Lynx and Predaking woohoo! :KREMZEEK: My little brother actually really likes Sky Lynx, so that'd be awesome if we could somehow get the Encore version for him to go with Predaking in a fight to the death! :P

Funny you mention Predaking upgrades Silly...

Image

That's my Platinum Predaking with the "Collection Kingdom" upgrade set (which I believe is actually just a KO of all the CrazyDevy upgrades). The end result is reeeaalllly nice, but INCREDIBLY unstable. Like, I got him in that pose and then couldn't touch him. Then I think one day my dogs bumped that shelf during some rough housing and he crumbled to pieces.

So yeah, it looks nice, but doesn't need any upgrades (especially for the price of that set).

From the look of it, that upgrade set for Predaking is garbage IMO. You already told about the stability issue (a VERY imortant point for a combiner) and that giant extra crotch piece just give him an elongated torso. This make the limbs look dispropotionately small. Without upgrades, G1 Predaking is pretty solid and look like a MASSIVE, intimidating MOFO that you wouldn't want to mess with.

I can entirely agree about how he looks. And, I really don't need an upgrade for such a nostalgic piece. :D

Also, you guys probably have already mentioned this before, but Predaking's hands look SUPER similar to the Combiner Wars standard hands.

To be honest, the guns/missile launchers/insert-other-weapons-here on the HFGs is probably my favourite feature of them. It makes the combiner feel armed without actually having a weapon.
... and it's a shame that despite the PE hands/feet being better than the HFGs, they take those away :(

I am so hoping Has/Tak does a titan class Predaking about the same size as Devastator. In the mean time though, I'd be happy with the Platinum g1 reissue of the Preds.
