I think the price is ridiculous. It isn't like this is some Botcon low printed number set. $75 for three deluxe figures, two of which are (pretty much) the same figure, and with hardly any changes from the original releases to make them be considered "platinum"?

No thanks. I'll wait for them to show up for $30 at Ross.

But which low printed numbered Botcon set of 3 deluxe toys cost 75$ ?

Plus... let's face it, aftermarket prices are a bitch; getting these three individually through Ebay or whatnot is gonna cost more than getting this set.

You could have buyer's remorse. And you bought it at a higher price (right?). You could also buy something you wouldnt recomend everyone to buy. So I am wondering, do you think that this set is worthwhile to non completionists at 75$? The point is people are complaining about the price and say that charging above 50$ for this set is a ripoff. You're one of the only people who have this set on these forums, so some input would be fun :D

I gotcha, but I very rarely have an answer for "was it worth it to you" beyond "I wanted the toy and found the price acceptable enough to decide to purchase it." As for why I'd want it at all, I can maybe add something with that: Junkions, basically. Seemed like a good opportunity to get some spare motorcycles.

On Hot Rod, once the set arrives I'll once again have every last version of that mold. Only other appealing thing is the novelty of it having the port to hold Firebolt on the hood in car mode.

I remember a friend letting me borrow that old Hot Rod figure years ago. I didn't even know what his name was at the time. :-P Would be nice to get this new version of the mold just out of nostalgia. Also, it would be nice to have some Junkions to go with the season 3 and 4 guys.

I might buy the Junkion set just because I never ever got my hands on then Junkion. What make me hesitate a bit (beside the price) is the fact that I already own Henkei Rodimus. Maybe when the set will be on sale, at like 60$CAN or so.

Also, as for the Rodimus Prime VS Galvatron set, I'm so going to pass because I already own Universe Galvatron and I will soon get Titanium Rodimus through a trade in one hour or so.

I do like that Hot Rod quite a bit. He apparently has a nice vivid, bright red deco akin to his Targetmaster self back in the G1 days although they gave him Rodimus Prime's yellow headlights rather than Hot Rod's blue ones and they also cut all of the flames from the side/doors of the car as well as the right and left edges of the hood which sadly matches the worst of all releases (Battle in Space). Still, all that exposed red car-ness does make for a nice clean look on that sharp design of a vehicle mode.

For comparisons, here's Target's up close (note the deco is basically a combo of Hasbro's Classics+BiS):
Image

Here's a closeup of the BiS/Challenge at Cybertron variant (note the similar decos):
Image

And here's an image of all of the past Rodimi lined up together:
Image

As for the price debates going on, I only tentatively agree simply because this figure, particularly the best version of it (Henkei)has been reissued in the past by Takara. Besides that, Takara has also dropped some seriously awesome variants on us such as the Sons of Cybertron and United Rodimus Prime. So while I can agree that it's cheaper than trying to get these figures/versions of these figures right now, I'm skeptical as to whether or not that will always be true because the next Asia exclusive/reissue/variant is probably waiting in the wings for the patient (as this very set itself proves).

I suspect the higher price might have to do with low production numbers since it's a limited/smaller market store exclusive being a Target release and not an Amazon/Wal-Mart/TrU release, but that's just speculation.

Besides, I just checked and there's at least one of the "good ones" (Hasbro's original Classics version, clear blue windows and all) available for a very reasonable (or maybe not, depending on how much you think those Junkions are worth) price of $40 right here. I haven't checked what ebay sellers are asking for it right now, but based on its age and popularity, I think that's pretty decent. Of course that's still a far cry from $25, so if you want those Junkions the boxed set's a better deal as long as you don't mind the somewhat Battle in Space minimal flameage deco on your Hot Rod.

I think I would enjoy the deco for this new Platinum deluxe Hot Rod if Hasbro hadn't skipped out on the orange paint for the car hood. That's an essential mark of G1 Hot Rod to me, which this set is supposed to emulate and celebrate. It IS nice to have the clear blue windows back, though. Even with the opaque windows on the "Battle in Space" version from a few years ago, I still find that version superior for it's attention to detail with the paint apps in all the right places (especially the orange thighs and yellow spoiler not being compromised) for a spot-on G1 look for Hot Rod. Though, I do covet that lovely Rodimus Prime redeco from Takara's Transformers United. That mold looks great with the Rodimus Prime touches, like the two tones of red/maroon on the car body and the flame detailing on the sides. It's almost a perfect representation of "RV" Rodimus with Hot Rod's simpler alt mode. Fantastic.

Same exclusive retailer and same era molds, I think that would be a smart bet.

Oh and I forgot to write this earlier, but asomeone asked why they were only half translucent, well its because they are being reformatted. We already have these molds in their good and accurate decos, we also have the same molds completely done in clear plastic. What we didnt have was the in between phase. This was pretty much the only way to make that set fully new and something we didnt have and I feel it suceeds at that.

See, I actually like that idea. It's only missing the squarish (purple) grid looking reformatting phase of the design. Like this:

I am really hoping a more positive review of the Planet of Junk set comes out soon. I highly want that set both to add to my 1986 movie characters, and out of nostalgia since I remember playing with that Hot Rod toy in about 2005.

Haha yeah I didn't even hardly know what Transformers was then. The years have really rushed by haven't they?

I think the first Transformer I ever owned was probably Cybertron Scout class Armorhide. Later I got Clocker, Classics Cliffjumper, and the Cybertron color version of bendy Prime.
