It is. The original The Fallen was drawn by Pat Lee for Dreamwave and has since been slightly re-done by Don Figueroa for IDW. And since Don is also now directly involved with designing ALL of the War Within titanium figures (as well as the G1 Scourge, Rodimus Prime & Ultra Magnus titaniums), it makes sense that what he did for The Fallen would follow his own version rather than Pat Lee's.
Pat Lee's original version was decent, but poorly thought-out when it came to actual transformation. Don, on the other hand, is not only a freakishly good artist but also has a natural sixth sense for being able to design (or modify the designs of existing) characters in a way that can directly translate into toy forms should Hasbro want them to... rather than the other way around where the toy usually comes first. All of his War Within stuff was created from the get-go to be functional toys if the opportunity ever arose (which it did thankfully), and just look at what he managed to think up for G1 Rodimus & Magnus. Over 20 years later, we finally have versions of these characters that are accurate single-piece molds that still look like the way they were depicted in the cartoons & comics.
Hehe, sorry for the Don F. worship here - I just want the guy to get as much credit as he deservesHe's proven that he is not only one of, if not THE, best TF artists out there, but now he's able to take his talents to the next level and give us some of the best figures we've seen yet. I just hope Hasbro gets him involved with making some larger plastic versions of characters as well, and not keeping him stuck just doing 6" Titaniums.
I agree, Don deserves troves of rewards and praise for his efforts. I still think Lees Fallen was a much better design, both in bot and tank mode, but DFs is pretty awsome as well.
