My characters are Autobots and they've gone up against maximals in arena combat recently. It's been losses everytime. Why are autobts facing maximals? good guys vs. good guys doesn't make any sense to me.

I find with the new factions it's normally a case of good -vs- bloody awful.
With me being the good and SS14 the bloody awful. Right Squishyman?

It's true! Damocles drives on the road, Gore killed Damocles, therefore, Damocles = roadkill!

I seem to be getting these quite a lot as of late, and it's not as if my setup is bad either...

Well, except for the I-grow-limbs-from-nothing transformation, and the quasi-magical abilities of the maximals, it had a good basic idea. Rhinox-Tankor was the best villain in it

Beast Wars was better.

It became the beginnings of modern TF cartoon cheese fest. Just way genocide Megatron = Hitler evil, dark. I still watch though, but it's really bad...

That being said, it's still on my Christmas list. How can a collection be complete without the original cheese fest?

The first time I watched Beast Machines was on a bad tv rip. We're talking like 320x180 resolution ... wasn't the best.
Suffice to say I wasn't really impressed. I collected the entire line, loved the Vehicons but found most of the Maximals to be huge disappointments.
Sony just released the second season of BM here in Australia about two weeks ago, so in the space of about two weeks I watched the entire series from start to finish.
I still hate the whole turning Cybertron organic thing. However when you really break the story down it was some pretty good story telling and the characterisation was superb.
How can you not love a character like Rattrap? And how can you not respect a Megatron that doesn't retreat and only has one plan and sticks with it regardless of what crap is thrown at him.
It really is a good series if you can look past a few crappy points.

Story-wise and story-telling wise, Beast Machines was great. They took it to a great dark and bleak level that I love, it just... the toy line was lacking severely and the magical Maximals kind of sucked. Megatron suddenly losing his mond over having an organic styled body was a bit odd considering how he loved it in Beast Wars.
There were a few quirks with BM that I'm sure don't sit right with everyone, but the chracters and the story were awesome. I just would ahve loved a more traditional style of transformation with the Maximals.

Original Sin, you sounded like Judge Dredd, just to let you know
And as to the topic, they are two seperate factions, even if they are both 'good' there will inevitably be conflicts of ideas, etc and this will lead to a conflict of arms
