It's a bug that's been around for a while now. Afraid nothing can be done about it right now since HMW2 is in the works. Basically, you just got a bit of bad luck there.

I dont think your weapon was taken off your charecter. You must have forggoten to equipe it, weapons arnt taken off charecters in battles.
As for the result, yeah, as DS says it's a bug dating back from when the Beast factions were first introduced. It wont get fixed, it's been flagged in the bugs thread repeatedly, just sit back andwait for V2.
