I think it looks good to get away from the almost standard blue hyperlink colors. Personally, I like purple. (I probably shouldn't mention the Vikings fan bit, eh?) But, I suppose purple would lead to an implied Decepticon alignment. Does Red do the same thing, though this isn't currently an Autobot red? 
Overall, I do like the cleaner look of the header at this time. I should check how all this looks on my mobile. Cleaner, bigger text would definitely help with touchscreens.

I have Adblock active on my computer so it's just a big solid burgundy. The whole homepage looks great without ads everywhere. I like the change. It looks more "mature" if you will.
Also the "red" script doesn't give me a sense of danger by any means. Not a problem for me.

Right. When I click the first unread message link, it sends me to Burn's message above about you making tweaks to the site. (It has done this both times I clicked it for the two notifications today. And this is the only thread where that happens to me.)
When I click the other one, it sends me directly to the post that triggered the notification.
I hope this helps. I can take screenshots if you think that would assist you.

Still not getting thread updates and DM notifications. From what I can tell if I post in a thread that I've never posted in before I will get updates for about 6-12 hours and then stop. Not sure if that helps.
