Yo Densh, I'm writing the review as we speak. Do you mind if I title it something sort of clever like "Masterpiece MP-36 Megatron: a Doubter Turned Fan's Review"

Excellent write up 'densh!

Over the weekend, I spent some time with Apollyon going back and forth between modes. I ended up putting the upgraded shoulder sockets back on the figure to prevent the arms popping off during transformation. For me, he's still a great figure. I do see myself getting this Megatron too, but like you I don't think I could easily get rid of my current MP Megatron.

The paint chipping worries me, as I've never had that issue with Apollyon. In fact, the only really issue I have with Apollyon is tracking things in when in alt mode.

Megz 2.0 truly looks like a masterpiece - Takara did especially well on the chest/abs! At $200+, expectations are understandably high......to me, the Masterpiece line is purely for collectors and enthusiasts, so the paint chipping is a real concern.

It wouldn't stop me if I had the funds or occasion (like my birthday lol), but as you said, buyer beware!

I definitely considered Despotron and the upcoming MMC Tyrantron -- but 36 looks like G1 perfection.

Today is a sad day in the Robot Room, as we prepared Despotron for ebay.

First Apollyon, now Despotron, it's a pity you Megatrons are replaced so easily....


Actually, it's not. It is a testament to the effort that Takara put into MP-36. Even with the paint chipping issue, this is a really amazing figure. Kinda makes up for the fails that were the Shockwave and Inferno molds.

im gonna end up with 3 mp megs.
all the in hand reports and reviews have confirmed that i will continue with my continue plan of mp megs.

Y'know I really don't know what I'ma do with 36. He's on the way, but with all the issues (founded or not as you say) the paint chipping is bad enough. I'm was thinking I'd open him and just pose him, leave him on the display. But they're chipping just from that. I might just leave him sealed, keep Appy in place, and wait for a 36 re-release. I dunno. I'm torn

I still say open him. The engineering on this guy is amazing. It really reminds you of what the MP line is supposed to be. The paint chipping is bad, yes, but not a game ender. The pure fun and joy of Megatron moves me past it.

I was super surprised when you said Despo was out the door. But your 180 on your views of 36 will echo through eternity as testament to what must be pure awsomesauce.

I've been having a LOT of fun with Apollyon as of late in an effort to convince myself I don't need MP36. Transforming back and forth a few times a week. The only thing that really grinds my gears about Apollyon is his feet. They just feel flimsy in robot mode. Articulation wise he has everything I need. I can pop out little pieces in his shoulder to get full range, but proportions wise he just fits as Megatron in both modes for me.

That and the only places I'd get him from would equal $200+. That's just how I do business though.

BUT.

Apollyon will probably break again someday, and I'll figure it out then. Just like I did with TRU MP Rodimus

Not gonna lie, you are convincing me to get him. I'm super happy that you like him.

MP36 looks perfect, imho -- but as an alternative, I may go with WeiJiang (until I can get the real deal). Maybe. I DUNNO!!

its a hybrid of all the 3p megs. mostly apollyon but it has an integrated stock and stuff.

As much as I love 36, and I do, if he wasn't a gift, I don't know if I would have kept him over Despotron. I actually like the non cartoon accurate look of Despy a little bit better. That said, 36 is still mind numbingly awesome, flaws and all. You really can't explain it, and you really can't watch it on a review to get it. You have to hold it in hand. The entire feel of the figure adds to it. All of those moving and folding parts, and yet it is a perfectly poseable, stable, solid robot.

Going off of reviews and pictures, I NEVER would have bought 36, unless I found a helluva good deal down the road. I'm so very glad my wife got him, as I really would be missing out not experiencing this mold.

That pose is something my GF would put me upto. She always laughs when I make my bots do funny poses.

It's aight for the price. Like most of their beers it's little boring with the B&T being a little light for a porter. I will say they go down nice and easy and are less expensive than most beers in their class. I like my beers with a little more body and personality.

If your local beer monger offers a build your own six pack, toss yourself one in. Yuengling isn't my fav but totally worth a try
