I pretty much agree with you Sly, even if I don't love ROTF anymore.

That's not stupid. Even after seeing it 20 times, I think it's the greatest film ever period.

Agreed on this one. Never feel guilty for being entertained by something. It's all for fun.

I can also agree with the rest of you on this. I thought ROTF was the best movie I'd seen to that point, then I joined this place to see how bad it actually is and I had never realized what a stir this film (and the other one, although not as much, but close) caused among the fandom. I just don't understand why it's such a problem that I like this movie stuff (and Bumblebee) and why I have to recognize all these horrid problems I'm "oblivious" to apparently. I don't want what entertains me to be ruined for me, so I won't let it affect me. I shouldn't feel guilty for being entertained, as Capt. Failure said, but if I start to, I'll leave this site. There's no sense in staying if I can't enjoy it.
Please note: If you think I may be joking, I probably am.

Here's probably an old truth: The movie is only the better, the more rarely you see it. If you watch any good movie too many times in a row or too frequently, it'll lose it's special sparkle.

Usually, this is true, but there are films out there that hold up against repeat viewings. Films that become classics.

Even if they would have flaws, they could easily be overlooked.

For us geeks, Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan is one of them. That's clearly a movie that can withstand repeat viewings and still entertain each and every time. Perfect? No. But an excellent film.

ROTF is more akin to TWOK for some of us. I mean that in the "I can watch it plenty of times and enjoy it." sense. TransFormers, for me, was boring, convoluted, and a waste of screen time for close to an hour.

I realize I'm one of the minority who happened to enjoy it, also.

Another classic that holds up...The NeverEnding Story. If you grew up with it, loved it, and still watch it even as an adult, you don't care about flaws, or differences from the book, it's just a great piece of cinema. (Yes, I do realize there are fans out there that do have problems with the differences between the source material and the film. Such as the late Michael Ende.)

I always saw it as the "origin story" for the movieverse. Your standard origin story film is usually slower moving than subsequent installments because you need to set up the world in which the series takes place. Batman Begins, for example, is mostly about how Bruce Wayne was inspired to become Batman and the adventures he had/training he recieved leading up to his return to Gotham. He only dons the suit a four times in the movie, compared to The Dark Knight.

Excellent point, but it still doesn't save the first movie. There was too much of the human element and it truly didn't push the film along. It was a masturbation joke, a bunch of "OMG I'M AWKWARD, LOVE ME" moments, and then nearly an hour later...the title characters show up on screen. And the movie begins to pick up some, but not enough. Not nearly enough.

As for Batman Begins, yes, some of the pace was slow, and we didn't see a great deal of the Bat, but it was handled so well, so classy, and with great performances, and it actually made sense as to why there was so little of Batman and more of Bruce Wayne, but when Batman did appear, he made a HUGE impact on the audience and it was a pure thrill.

Optimus Prime transforming for the first time is THE scene of both TF films. Nothing else tops it. It's breathtaking, it's chill inducing, and it's awesome.

...and then it goes back to lame jokes, too many plots to work with, and no depth or story.

I also see the first as an origin story, and the real plot and actions don't start occurring until nearing the end of the movie, since most of the movie gets us familiar with the characters and who exactly the tranformers are. The real action of the story starts in the final battle in the city and is carried on through ROTF and assumingly DOTM.

Okay, I only wanted to provide examples of major trip-ups in the storyline that would count as moviegoer recognizable instead of fan recognizable:

In Tf1, Optimus arrives with a Weapons specialist, a Medic, a chief Lieutennant and some bot who is either a warrior or an infiltrator. At the end, he sends a message out to all Autobots to come to him.

We, as fans, can assume Prime means 'if they want to',cuz he is Optimus, but Moviegoers only know that Autobots have nowhere to call home.

The rest of his army, which is never confirmed to not exist, never arrives.Three sisters, (or one combiner), one warrior/gladiator and two brothers arrive only.Jolt is written in later for a save and doesn't count as planned to continue the story, just to end it.

Also, Optimus left his army without its' Chief lieutennant even tho he was leading the mission the lieutennant was accompanying.
Alternatively, if there is no army in existence, why write up someone as a Chief Lieutennant? Going by SOME Earth standards (there are multiple different types now and they are always subject to change), you can need up to two Lance-Corporals and then two Corporals before you can even designate a Sargeant, and therefore raise yourself above the Sargeant rank if you consist of an army of five people in total. That's not including Volunteers, Militia, Recruits, Privates and PFCs (or international variants).
"Everyone has a hobby.Even people who say they don't still have one under another name.If we're sick, injured, we still go to it and get down to see how it is.If it needs something, we bring it,make sure the attention is perfect. It exercises our care and protection and gives us back philosophies. It's a living thing to us,and is the most perfect way to teach a young person how to be towards a living thing. It's something that should never be taken away."
