I never thought much of that debate.Lets face it...he could have survived, I dont think he did but lets face it...its a movie, anything is possible in the movies.
What I found more interesting was all the guys that would debate on wether Mace Windu really had a chance at winning that fight.
Its not hard to see that Palpetine was bideing his time just waiting for Anikin to show up.
