Blu-ray is better than HDDVD.You could watch it in full color with your PS3.

Honestly, watching a DVD in 480p is still good enough. Problem is HD DVD and Blu ray both run at 1080P and you gotta have a 1080P set at 60 inches or bigger to really tell a difference.

Now that being said, HD is nice. I have a 27 inch Samsung 480p/1080i set, and I wouldn't say I was just "jumping on the flock". Its basically like watching TV on a computer moniter. Everythings a lot clearer!

As far as I know, HD and Blue Ray, are the same picture quality, but Blue Ray can store media and not get damaged, ..... that doesn't really impress me. Samsung is coming out with a dual player or already has, so that solves me missing out on some great pictures. I don't care to download everything digital into a computer, takes way too much space and other expense to buy a separate drive, if that's what Microsoft is trying to do. (Unlimited digital download storage, without erasing, now that's something...)

Gotta love samsung. They are slowly but surely becoming my favorite company! Own an HD TV, an MP3 player and a phone(Samsung Sync) from the company. First discovered them when I got a 20 inch Samnsung TV for my birthday in 1998. After many great years on that TV i decided to replace it with a 27 inch Samsung CRT HDTV. Next will be a 72 inch Samsung DLP 1080P tv I found at Frys Electronics. Don't know when that will be though.

I'm puzzled as to why a celeb as wealthy as himself would even give a crap about such a pointless situation as HD vs Blu-ray.

I for one have to say that is a good point. While I honestly feel like HD-DVD is the way to go, either way who cares. You can be loyal toward Blu-ray or you can be loyal towards HD-DVD but honestly whoever wins in the end wins, and we benifit from it.

How many people on this message board own a 60 + inch HDTV? Because thats what you need to get the benifits from either an HD DVD or a blu-ray. How many have witnessed how awesome a regular DVD looks in 480p? I'm raising my hand.

It might be too soon for an HD DVD format war really. Why does Micheal bay care when its all said an done? I know I don't. I don't own one HD-DVD yet, nor do I have player. In fact, my original X-box is my DVD player. who cares who wins, do you really want to buy your whole collection on an HD format again?

I own a 50" samsung rear projection DLP HDTV and it's awesome, now they have a 73" but I cannot believe that 60+ inches is "required" to enjoy all the benefits of it, the only reason I want the 73" version is for the scope and feel it would bring to certain movies, tv shows and documentaries, anything beyond that and the size becomes nothing more than a p*ssing match over the internet lol.
My 50" tv set has made a world of difference in how I view programs and movies and each time I watch the same movie I notice something new almost all the time.
The format war has been around for a while now and with microsofts 150 million dollar payment to paramount not too long ago Transformers will be an HD exclusive title for still over a year.
Blu ray does the same thing buying out and signing contracts with studios to go exclusive with their technology.
There are people on both "camps", some for the Blu ray some for the HD dvd both quoting statistic after statistic and technical mumbo jumbo as to who's is bigger er um, better.
Better does not always equal a winner, there are still people that say Beta is/was better than VHS but even if nobody can dispute that Beta was 100% better well we see where history went with that one as VHS as the winner.
If Blu ray wins then it's just as much of a crap load of money lost to the people that bought the HD DVD formats.
I have neither format, still on regular dvd's and I'm not loosing any sleep let alone money by investing in one camp or the other, ANY technology that comes out whether it be a phone, computer system or operating system I wait to see what technical flaws and problems come up and then when they work out the bugs and get patches fixed for them then it's time to buy and not just rush out on the hype and buzz of what's being said about technical products.

If both these formats let alone one remain around in the future the solution lies in a multi format player which are recently coming out, they are expensive right now but competition from multiple manufacturers will drive the prices down eventually, the same thing is happening with big screen tvs now and that way anybody who has invested in Blu ray dvd's or anyone who did the same for HD DVD's will not lose and still be able to play them both.

I needed that kind of joke this morning. Anyone who thinks Blu-Ray s superior obviously doesn't remember the last few format war spearheaded by Sony *cough* (betamax) (minidisc) *cough*

Beta max and mini disc were actually better. Beta max had better quality than Vhs though less time. and Mini disc had better functionality, and durability than cd's. However what they weren't was successful. So Blu ray will probably do the same, and fail, whether it's better or not. Not being rich enough to have the $1500 entertainment system necesary to make buying a $500 dvd player worthwhile, i really don't know much about either.

the compact disc is better than the mini disc. Mini discs can't do bass very well from my understanding. At least they got a little bit of new life from the MP3 revoloution

Why is there even a topic about this? This situation has been finalized like a billion years ago. Bay apologized for what he said about HD.. and then realized that HD is fine.

I find it interesting that Microsoft released the add-on HD-DVD drive for the 360, then rumored that all future 360s would feature a built-in HD-DVD drive. I thought this sounded like a good idea for them from a business standpoint, not only would they be supporting their product in the movie format front but also expanding the storage capacity for future games and their content. They never did release a 360 with a built-in HD-DVD drive to my knowledge and I rarely see the add-on HD-DVD drive in stores anymore. It seems the HD-DVD drive is now in the same boat as past console add-ons like the Sega CD or the 32X. They've pretty much seemed to abandon it and made a push for downloadable movies over the Live Marketplace.

I have no idea if we will even see games that require more storage capacity than a Double-Layer DVD but it seems like it would have been the right direction to go. Developers are still figuring out just how far they can push the new consoles and what they can really do. I'd hate to see the 360 at some point have to go to a multiple disc solution because a game was too large to fit on one disc. It seems kind of trivial at the moment but I remember back when the first Playstation was released and you had multiple discs because the game was too large to fit on just one CD. It was a foriegn concept at the time because there was never an instance where a single game was stretched across multiple cartridges. I just feel that it is kind of ignorant of us to think that games for the 360 are never going to require a larger capacity than what a Double Layer DVD can provide, especially since they are still figuring out how to tap into all the console's resources and get the most out of it.

I find the whole situation kind of interesting and even though it only really applies to what Microsoft is doing on the console side of things, it does kind of go with what Bay is saying. They are moving away from the HD-DVD support and pushing more toward the Live downloads.

yeah I really don't care. I used to lean more towards HD-DVD but thats just because I hate sony. In format wars there really aren't winners usually, there are just multi-players, or mulit-burners in th case of DVD-rom drives (DVD+R, DVD-R). Right now not one thing is being produced in both formats and thats probably how its going to stay. If you want to enjoy the benifits of High definition movies, you better have a multi-player. Thats what will win in the end.

As for which ones better, Well whats better Cable or DSL? Same argument pretty much, and I can tell you on that one I've had both and haven't noticed a difference.

The sales of Blu-Ray and HD-DVD are gonna be slow. Unless they work their differences out, and produce a unified format, or a unified multi-format player.

HD movies sales will be slow because HDTV penetration is not high, estimated at about %15 of US households. When that low a number of people own HDTVs, you can't expect HD tech to fly off the shelves.

It can't be said that the format war is what is keeping sales slow, because then how do you explain PS3 vs. 360, or Ford vs. Chevy? People seem to act like Blu-Ray vs. HD DVD is this horrible thing that is bad for consumers, and that people are confused about them. But, somehow, all these poor confused people out there have been able to figure out the difference between game consoles, or automobiles just fine. Why should the home video market be immune to this competition in a free market economy?

There are exclusive video games on each console and people suck it up and purchase their console with the games they want . There's nothing really fundamentally different about the HD format war, nothing. Before you make an argument against competing movie formats, see if it makes sense when you apply it to the videogame or auto industry. Should there be one unified game console? How about one unified car company? Are those good for the consumer you think? NO, of course not.

The problem with Micheal Bay is obviously he is being fed misinformation from his 'friends' and some of the kids that post on his message board. I've read that message board of his once or twice and it honestly is just a bunch of kids with PS3's who were crying about not getting Transformers on Blu-Ray for their PS3. I think Bay just getting all emotional and trying to stick up for these kids who support him on his message board, and of course he has a couple friends with PS3 that tell him BD is superior etc. And who better for Bay to get his Microsoft conspiracies from then these same PS3 fans? Microsoft = the makers of the evil Xbox!

Well, PS3 and Xbox, despite their high-profile wars, are not fly that high.

That spot is steadily being conquered by the one and only game console who got the edge: Wii.

Ok, so yes, even another Console in that race. So consumers are choosing between 3 consoles just fine without confusion. All 3 have exclusive games to sway consumers to purchase them. There is no fundamental difference in the battle for HD media.

I mean Wii's edge is not some unique game built for its console, but a unique way of controlling the action in the game.

By the way, what kind of optical media does Wii play?

DVD. And from what I've read, all it's lacking is a DVD decoder software suite to play and recognize the discs.
