S'alright. Not particularly stoked, but it does look nice, and I like the mold.

I like the idea for the set and this figure looks pretty good, but this isn't something I plan to chase after. There's just so much other stuff coming out this year that's going to be much cheaper.

There's never been a completely new figure for a convention, the most is usually a remold of part of a figure.

With that deco Prime and movie Arcee would make a cute couple.
Looks fine for what it is, but the idea is boring and doesn't excite me.
The rumour about using using Energon Megs, is that the big or small mould?

Re: Botcon '08 Figure preview
Funny how so many people don't like this set... I think alot of the hate is just fans sulking after last year because oh la la they didn't get to complete their classics jet collection (yeah, they act like they've never repainted Starscream before, or they never will again!) and blame Hasbro because they did the unthinkable and actually made the toys people wanted! The nerve!
Fans are not excited about this set, but most people know (or could assume) that if this exact figure was released in the Classics line last year as Motormaster, fans would have **** themselves with joy, I just think many people would never admit it. I remember seeing fans digi-bash Classics Prime to look almost exactly like this... but know that it's actually happened, all I hear is "meh"
This fandom is the most spoiled of any I've ever seen, and it's the only one who doesn't know how good they actually have it.

That's my point, how pissed would people have been if they made the megatron silver and blue and intead of making him good megatron, remolded his head into Thunderwing. I really think recolors of existing figures into G1 chracers would have been good. I would have like to have seen:
Energon Megatron as Thunderwing
Energon Insecticon as Bombshell
Energon Wingsaber as Predaking
and so on.

Not all of the figures are remolded. Usually it's only one or two and not often the larger figure.

Quite the opposite. It's not sulking, it's actually RELIEF that whereas last year's exclusives were toys we really wanted but couldn't afford/justify the expense of, this year's look like being ones we are interested to see pics of but happy to go without, much like the convention sets for all the preceding years.

Speaking as one of those who "didn't get to complete his classics jet collection", my dislike of this figure is NOT based on that but rather a "and the point of this is ..." thought.
I mean really ... evil Prime. How many times has that been done with Scourge? Oh let's do something different, an evil Prime in purple.
Yeah. Tad on the boring side. I think you'll find that's the reason a lot of people aren't interested, because it, and the whole "evil Prime" concept is just plain boring.

so i guess assuming that the Autobots are the bad guys these time, most of the remolds will be with Starscream (and Megatron to some extent) right?
i'm actually keenly more interested on how will the Decepticons will be portrayed this time. part of the underwhelming response to evil Prime could be attributed to the fact that evil Primes have been around since gosh knows when.
but a genuinely good Starscream...now that is interesting...

Re: Botcon '08 Figure preview
As someone who did shell out the money for last year's set (worth every penny, I might add), I am underwhelmed with this set. It's just a matter of personal preference. I like the mirror-verse idea, and am glad they did something other than Scourge/Nemmy Prime. I just didn't get that "Oh snap, gotta get that" feeling like last year. For $250, I need to have that feeling.
In a way, I'm glad that it's not something I'm totally jazzed about b/c money is tight right now and I'm trying to scrape together enough jack to get the Premium movie figures (since I don't have any of the movie figs) and the Animated figures in June.
Oh yeah, I need another $40 for Nightbeat when that's available for order in the club.
Good lord this hobby is expensive. What can I say? I'm an addict. Need my fix.

Re: Botcon '08 Figure preview
All poking fun at Skowl aside, he's right. You know what, this WOULD make a good Motormaster. So if the whole "Mirror Universe" story just strikes you as silly, well, that's okay, just ignore any fiction connected to the figures, and enjoy the figures for themselves.
While I personally would never mess with a Con exclusive, I might find some non-intrusive, not-permanent way of covering the Autobot symbols with Decepticon symbols and displaying him in my collection as Motormaster. Maybe the evil Jazz would make another good Stunticon? Repaint a Classics Mirage into Drag Strip and your half-way to having a modern Stunticon team.

And a Classics 2.0 Sunstreaker repaint could be Breakdown.

All you would need then is a good candidate for Wildrider

I bough the non-attendee package last year. I think it was called the Iacon package. Anyways, i bought and don't regret it for a second. I wasn't sure about getting this years' set and after seeing the promo pic of evil Optimus I'm not convinced to shell out a couple hundred bucks.
I totally applaud the effort to make another awsome set for this year but it just isn't snatching my interest. Before anyone slams me for making this opinion off of one photo This is how I see it. I REALLY wanted to complete my classics seekers last year. Hence my purchasing the set to me was a no brainier. (My kitbashing skills are non-existent.)
As I understand it of what is in the set this year there's just no compelling reason for me to buy the set. And the pic of Optimus makes me feel more confident in my decision.

I was really hoping for Nemesis Prime. Ah, maybe Hasbro or Takara will still make one.
He's not bad. If the final version has all the detail it'll be nice. Though I prefer my figures to look shiny, new, and clean. Not dirty, damaged, and banged-up. But I can't deside who he looks like more. Motormaster or Toxitron. I do like how the logo is purple and his eyes are red. I see a theme. All the Autobots will have purple symbols and red eyes, and the Decepticons will have red symbols and blue eyes.
