Now then... which classics molds have they yet to reuse for the "must be there to spend too much money on" exclusives? I suppose they'll most likely be Autobots though to maybe balance things back out.
Grimlock, Mirage, Hotrod, Astrotrain & Megs have not gotten the repaint treatment yet (Assuming Dreadwing is the Jetfire mold). So the question is will any of those figures be the mystery figure(s)? Or will folks lucky enough to be able to go get treated to a real suprise and end up with Classics Sunstorm?
How would sunstorm be counted as a treat?
He's not even a real charecter.
He's not? He was the main villain in some of the Dreamworks comics. He has a slew of toys. And yes, he even has a brief cartoon appearance.
tentagil wrote:cellshock wrote:All this figure did was confirm that I did indeed just pay $400 CDN for 3 seekers. Regardless of what they do with the Dreadwind figure, he'll still just be a bigger space-filler than lil' Bugbite is since neither of those characters mean anything to G1 or the Classics as we know them.
It's a shame this wasn't an 'all or nothing' boxset. Having 3 characters that matter with 2 that mean exactly squat is what makes it a hard pill to swallow.
Dreadwind is a G1 character though. He didn't appear in the G1 toonof course, but he was in the Marvel comics.
cellshock wrote:My point is that he was such a secondary background character compared to the current crop of Classics that his appearance in this boxset is entirely for the sake of filling some space.

And real enough of a character to everyone else that I hear constsnt cry to have classic figure made for him.

But Sunstorm is so dull! He was boring in the DW comics (which themselves weren't great) and he's another Seeker. After three Seekers and three Coneheads do we really need a seventh of essentially the same toy?
Bug Bite looks nice, though.

Yeah I know who Dreadwind is - a Decepticon Powermaster jet that combined with Darkwing (or whatever his name was). My point is that he was such a secondary background character compared to the current crop of Classics that his appearance in this boxset is entirely for the sake of filling some space. Fact is that they are reaching with this Jetfire repaint, and Dreadwind happened to be the name they chose for it. Even repainting & slightly remolding Rodimus into Sideswipe or whoever else would have made a lot more sense imo... even though I don't necessarily agree with it. At least that's keeping with some sort of theme, whereas Bugbite & Dreadwind are purely filler for the sake of adding more Cons to the mix.
That's all I meant

First we get complaints from people being mad about Botcon using such well know characters. Now within the same Botcon set, we are now getting complaints about the character not being more "mainstream"?

That is Transfandom.
tentagil wrote:God I hope we don't get another damn Sunstorm. Though I'm not a huge fan of the deco on this guy I like the mold and should be interesting to see how they characterize him in the comic. For me its really the characters that make the toys.
Which is why I hate Sunstorm. He's a overpowered character with very little depth to him. Though I do love orange on TFs so he always leaves me enjoying the look of his figures but still hating them.
Dagon wrote:About the Seekers not being released in retail, I don't know if it's because parents wouldn't buy six of essentially the same figure so much as kids wouldn't know Thundercracker and the rest because the recent versions of Transformers have not had Thundercracker or Dirge. Armada had a Thrust in name, but there hasn't been a Ramjet in ages. Ramjet at least is a different looking jet, as is Thrust, and if you look at G1 Dirge his wings bear a bit more than a passing resembalance to G1 Ramjets. So maybe the Seekers as exclusives is more because kids don't know who those other Seekers are, let alone would they know about the Seekers as a group. Now this isn't for all kids naturally, but there, it's my two cents.

Not so much a full blown complaint as just a general gripe, so don't read into it too much.
The only reason I personally have a problem with this year's set is because, as I already stated, I basically just paid over $400 CDN for 3 seekers since the other 2 characters don't mean anything to me... or the Classics line as a whole. I'm not on the Sunstorm bandwagon like a lot of people are these days, but I almost would have preferred if they just included him along with a generic purple or green seeker instead of these Bumblebee & Jetfire repaints. In my *personal* opinion we certainly don't need 3 versions of the BB mold, and it makes no sense to me that Jetfire gets an out-of-the-blue repaint into a Con. If there was a Con based on the Jetfire mold anywhere in the original series, I'd be on board with it. But there isn't, so I'm not
But whatever, I *did* pay for the set so I'll deal with it. My disappointment with the character selection is simply for the sake of forum conversation - not tyrannical ranting or anything, hehe. Which I think is allowed

You've taken the post right out of my hands. The general amount of griping has gotten a little annoying. Kudos to Hasbro for just doing something interesting. Had this been done in another line, though, it might not have been so popular--I think the Classics line had enough high-quality molds in it that I could care less what character they make. I'd LOVE another Jetfire molded figure...

In the TFCC comic, they've mentioned Shockwave in hushed tones more than once. I bet that a Megatron redeco into Shockwave is coming (new head, new colors, and possibly a gun-arm mod, and you're done). Most likely, as one of the attendee-only exclusives.

From what I understand Hasbro doesn't really have alot to do with these other then the licensing. FunPub deals directly with Takara. They do the design, then Takara does the actual toy making, and ship it over here. Hasbro never touches them.
