I love the mould choices - even though most differred to my personal recommendations for the characters, I've grown to love all of them. If anyone wants to sell a set on to me, I'm a more-than-willing buyer!
Plus, MM as a binman - WTF?

It makes him a black and purple firetruck. Taking the forklifts off Wreck-Gar would've turned him into a semi-truck with a trailer.
First, let me start by agreeing with you that Wreck-gar would probably have looked better. However, I have to disagree with you on Blurrz's optinion. If you are saying that Motormaster as the "firetruck" OP from animated looks less like a semi than Wreck-gar, I have to greatly disagree with you. The OP mold looks like a cab-over semi tractor. Wreck-gar looks like a cab-over straight truck, not a semi. Small difference, but I think Blurrz had a better point on the looks of the alt modes.
Personally I think Bulkhead could have been a viable option too.

Wrong - Motormaster's G1 alt-mode was based on a Kenworth K100 Aerodyne sleeper, while Primes was based on the Freightliner FL86...

I don't have too much more to say on the matter except that I think the creative teams for the convention need to keep more on the track of original content.
SG was easy, but effective creative content. It made a new world and reimagined characters. Good collector bait all around.
2009 Wing of Honor had some good original characters and a good premise, but seems to have been limited in mold choice. I like this set more and more looking back in retrospect (much like 2005's set)
2010 G2 Redux was quite good. While a simple reimagining of G2 stuff, like in the way that the SG set used establish characters, it went further by fleshing out the Earth bound G2 world.
Now, 2011's set is a straight plug of G1 characters into Animated with the odd ball change to Dragstrip. It feels more like, "What we were able to do with what we had." rather than the creative streak that had been running for the past few years. I like Wyatt's work and had these been retail toys, I think they would all be exceptional. However, I don't think that Wyatt's inclusion in the creative process (though necessary in the realm of Animated toys) automatically makes the theme a good theme for a BotCon. DJW's inclusion in the process does lend legitmacy to the characters etc, because if he wasn't there, people would NOT buy into these. I think that's good for the set. That being said, despite his efforts, I still feel that the set doesn't carry the same brilliance that previous year's toys held.

I would've liked to have seen this option explored as well over another black Optimus Prime repaint/remold. Just not that exciting in my opinion.

Hey, it's totally cool.
I can see where you're coming from, I mean, it's how I felt in regards to the 2007 set when it came out. What's interesting is that the fan outrage isn't present in what are almost exactly the same circumstances. People were pissed that core characters were exclusives in 2007 and now in 2011 it's happening again and no one minds at all.
I'm not passing judgement on that, I just think it's weird.
