Why doesn't this surprise me?

This is taken from here:

"Britney Spears must hand over custody of her sons to Kevin Federline this week "until further notice of the court," a judge ruled Monday after a closed-door hearing.

L.A. Superior Court Commissioner Scott Gordon gave no reasons in his written decision, issued after lawyers met with him in a private session requested by Federline's lawyer. The ruling says that Federline gets custody starting Wednesday.

But the ruling came after the filing of misdemeanor charges against Spears - hit-and-run and driving without a valid California license - and claims by her ex-bodyguard that she used drugs and is a danger to her children, Sean Preston, 2, and Jayden James, 1.

Gordon also previously found that Spears is a "habitual, frequent and continuous" user of alcohol and controlled substances, and ordered her to submit to random twice-weekly testing.

Another hearing is set for Wednesday.

The singer, who has 50-50 custody with Federline, was seen around town with her children over the weekend, and on Sunday they had an early dinner at Taverna Tony in Malibu, as a crush of paparazzi camped outside.

"She seemed fine," the restaurant's owner, Tony Koursaris, says. "She was very comfortable having dinner here with her boys. ... The kids had a good time. Then we had to fight the paparazzi, of course."

The photographers, however, did come in handy for Spears at one point over the weekend. Around midnight Saturday, her Mercedes ran out of gas during a supermarket run. The photographers went to the gas station and helped Spears tank up her vehicle."

My question is how good of a father will Federline be?

IMHO it is a lose lose situation for those poor kids.

Bad enough they were having to grow up in the spotlight anyway, and with parents who have their own personal problems, gods, those kids are probably going to need some serious therapy.

If anything it's a slight win for the kids.

I just hope it's a wake up call for her to straighten herself out. No, i'm not a big fan of her but I don't want to see her wind up killing herself.

Yeah, Federline likes to party and hang out at the strip clubs, but I would think that he would arrange better car transportation for the kids than Britney has done. And I think he's more stable mentally than Britney is at this time.

Notice that when Kevin has the kids he doesn't parade them out in front of the paparazzi. Also, look how those babies are ALWAYS crying when they are with her. He keeps them in private so they aren't bombarded with scary men trying to take pictures of them.

Even then, you have to do something major to lose your kids if you are a mother. My ma lost custody of me and my sis, and you have to REALLY screw up to lose custody to a soldier!

There is some speculation that she intended to lose them. She knew that driving without a valid CA license was illegal, and had even been charged with that hit and run and I believe got a charge for the license as well. So she knew what she was doing driving around with those babies with no license, and it was the straw that broke the camel's back!

My supervisor got full custody of his daughter because his ex wife is pretty much a deadbeat mom..

My mother is a selfish woman who cares only for herself. Even now, she knew I was in poor health and ignored me. She deserved to lose us and the best thing she did was teach me what NOT to be. And I don't go dissing family members unless they absolutely deserve it.

I think any parent that does drugs should get a chance to get their lives in order, and if they are caught again, their rights should be suspended til they pass random drug tests for a long time and get a stable job. If Britney is doing drugs (which she most likely is) she deserves to lose them.

good. britney spears is an idiot. even though kevin's not much better, he'll do a better job than her.

She already turned the boys over two days early after getting them some Carl's Jr. How sentimental! Apparently she didn't do anything the court said to do, like the drug testing, counseling, nada! I think she wanted it!

That's pretty impressive to make Federline look like the lesser douche.

I find pity for everyone involved.

Britney: Used as a paycheck since her preteen (I think?) years. She was never actually a child, she was just a meal ticket to greedy parents. She then became world famous and on top of the world everywhere she went. Too much too fast too late.

K-Fed: We really don't know too much about his background, though it appears he'd be white trash through and through. Saw the dollar signs and took a chance at getting her. (You don't dangle a carrot in front of a rabbit and not expect it to leap)
Not the brightest young man, but that may not be his fault. (Bad parenting, bad upbringing)

Kids: Never asked to be put in this situation. Constantly having to witness things no child should ever have to see. Constantly put in harm's way with their mother's antics (and driving...)

This is a no win situation all the way around, but the kids have gotten a slightly better chance at escape now. Sure, K-Fed's no prince, but you never see him drinking or smoking or doing drugs around the kids (if he even does the drug part. Drinking and smoking were confirmed...I believe?) as Moonbase stated, he doesn't put them in front of the camera and show 'em off. He knows to keep his kids out of the spotlight.

Who knows, if he's actually forced to do something, his brain might even snap back in place and he could clean up his life. It's happened to be people before, could again.

Either way, if she's lost custody, and he loses custody, the kids *will* be taken away. Which, might be the best for all parties involved.

I used to defend Britney, to a certain extent I still do. However, she needs help before she can be a mother again. Perhaps that's the most merciful thing anyone can do.

And instead of pussyfootin' around this, they need to get a court order and FORCE her to be locked up in a detox center.

Not that I disagree--I don't know enough about this and never followed anything Britney--but how are we supposing her parents were using her as a meal ticket? Just want to find out if we're not just jumping to a conclusion.

She's had a falling out with both parents over the years. I don't think they're making a dime off her now, or if they ever did. I don't believe her mother was ever her manager, who makes 10% of their client's earnings, like Dina Lohan (Lindsay's mom) is. I mean, I'm sure she's shared her wealth, but she's not their meal ticket.

I used to be a huge fan of hers back in the day. She was so beautiful. Now I see what new f*ck-up she's done. It's really pitiful how far she's fallen. What does she do the day she loses her kids? Go tanning, check into a hotel, smiles for the camera---at least the one good thing she did was apply for the license.

Honestly, why should any of us care about this?

Because they aren't multi-millionaire former pop singers that are among the most famous people in the world, with lots and lots of drama for us to gossip about.

True, but to be honest, anyone who is still interested in BS, probably has a similar attitude to CC
