It was going to be a companion piece for the original Star Convoy alongside Sky Garry and Grandus in 1991, but never got made.

According to Takara the two were designed by different people that hadn't seen each other's work (New Rodimus was designed first). Strange coincidence if true.

Edit: Comparing the two I'm not really seeing any similarities, I don't know what all the hubbub was about. Universe Inferno looks more like New Rodimus.

Well, what would you expect from the Japanese people who gave us "Star Convoy", "Grandus", and "Sky Garry"?

To the Japanese, "It's English words, so it sounds cool to us."

It's gonna cost a pretty penny. And all worth it.

It's tempting, but I just can't do missing link collecting. But if they do my specific favorite characters I'll bite. Ultra Magnus is tempting, I wonder how they'll handle him. Probably will get OP curled into a ball in the back.

I am so excited to see what they end up doing with Magnus. Based on the prototype photos, he still comes with the powered convoy drone thing, which is awesome.

I expect the white Prime to be exactly the same as the previous ML G1 Optimus, maybe with short smokestacks and the colors as the only differences, with the trailer being compatible with both.

From Hasbro, this may be the case. But it's Takara we're talking about. And if they want to make an expensive figure, they don't dick around with crowdfunding.

Best example is the set of MTG Super Ginrai and God Bomber. Those two together cost me over 800$CAN. That's the same price as my TWO sets of HASLAB Victory Saber.
