Separate it from the tourneys (we want new players to want to take part in them, not feel forced that they have to...), maybe if a level 0 player visits the forums and presents proof of X-Number of battles within Y-Timeframe, they could somehow (and I'm not sure how) be rewarded with a level up to level 1 as recognition of their participation in the war?

You would have to set requirements on the battles as winning isn't a problem if you win by default, in a given day I'm not coming across many Autobots.

Not winning, participation; with Level 0 being the RNG's playground, winning's a flip of the coin. And, like with taking part in the competitions, we don't want players feeling 'there's no point in staying if I'm not winning'. But yeah, it would need to be a high enough number for someone to prove that they're really playing, not just throwing their team in a couple times to get the bonus and then leaving...

It's quite hard to balance this, but then what would really help is past results of trying to integrate L0 but as this is the first, we don't have that. How many L0 players in the past have you had coming to the boards to chat?

Do you have characters with less than 55kxp (the most expensive possible base lvl 1 build, not counting any tactics)?

Now you don't!

Sure, you'd get a few guys who are actually already lvl 1 ask for the up, but I see it as no bad thing if people engaged enough to ask for it are given a bit of xp to play with.

Simple rule, if you are found to be slumming it at lvl 0 in a week's time, you lose 55kxp, regardless of what your character had before you were given the xp.

This is the only game I've ever come across where you're not given some xp to play with from the get go, and it's one of the game's biggest flaws.

55K? The ones I was playing around with in the exp calculator, never came to that much :EEK:

With that idea, wouldn't it mean we effective start at lvl 1 and chose where to put five starting attribute and skill points?

That's the idea.

I wouldn't recommend the 55k build as a lvl 1 start build, it's literally one point in 5 different stats, but it gives you some room to experiment early on, while still having enough stats to maybe make a difference.

The point here is that we still have a level 0 and it's not going away so we HAVE to involve those guys if we are to encourage them to play on past it and level up.
